Wednesday 25th March

Date: 25th Mar 2020 @ 8:44am

Another beautifully sunny day - following from Aden's things he is grateful for, I am very thankful for this sunshine! If you have a safe space to be outside today, make the most of it! (Livvi and Asaph have enjoyed making 'potions' outside from whatever they can find in the garden!)

Remember to keep on checking in with today's blog post to find extra little activities for you to do, and remember to email Miss Wendt and I your learning at y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk - we're loving seeing what you're up to at home!

Miss Wendt here!

We've often talked about when we look for something on the interent, we have to check if it is a reliable source. Today I thought I would start with a great resource for those of you completing the science activities in your pack. Have a look at https://www.dkfindout.com/uk/ - this website has so many interesting facts and lots of information relevant to our science topic.

Miss Wendt's Maths Challenge!

I've attached a quick challenge below, it should be a good way to recap our place value learning and practise quick additon and subtracton skills! Let me know if you manage to complete it!

Did anyone have a look at the Spanish from yesterday? Who can email me and tell me how to say 'left', 'right' and 'straight ahead' in Spanish?

See you soon!

Tuesday 24th March - Aden is grateful!

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 9:28pm

This year at Ravensbury we have been thinking about our own well-being and how to look afer ourselves mentally as well as physically. This is perhaps more important than ever given recent events happening around the world.

Aden shared an image about what he was grateful for today on our y5 email. Have a look below and see what makes Aden happy!

And why not send something to y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk  - we love hearing from you!

What have you been up to today ? Did you try the Joe Wick's work out?

enlightenedTop tip for tomorrow:

To help you organise your days , why not make a timetable for your home learning ?

Write down what you will do from your home learning pack each morning  and  maybe read a book after lunch. Tick  each activity off as you complete it.

Remember that you can email your class teacher with any questions about the work in your home learning pack.

Wednesday 25th Creative

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 5:17pm

Good Morning Reception,

On Monday hopefully you listened to the stories that we used when we were thinking about what comes out of an egg.

Today we want you to pick one story and start talking to your grown up about what you would like to create. Look at the sheet called 'Reception Holiday Homework' for some ideas. You may want to look at some ideas on the Internet using your grown and their phone, IPAD, laptop or computer. You may want to start collecting things around your house to make your creation or save a box or bottle if you are making a model.

As always if you have any questions please email us: receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Good Luck!wink

Wednesday 25th Phonics

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 5:06pm

Good Morning Reception,

Hope you are all well and keeping safe...

Today we would like you to continue lookng at the sounds that you cut up from Phase 2 in lots of games. We will also like you to practise reading, writing and locating tricky words from Phase 2.

You may want to start by singing the phase 2 tricky word song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMyssfAUx0

Start by looking at the Phase 2 tricky word mat.

Can you play fastest finger? Who can touch the tricky word that your grown up says the quickest?

Next get your grown up to find some paper and you copy 4 of the tricky words. Play corners using the four tricky words. Place the four words safely in a room in your house or use the garden if it is safe to do so. Run around the space and when your grown up shouts corners go to a corner. You are out if you are standing in the corner that the grown up chooses. Play this with other people that live in your house.

Now have a go at the tricky word spelling activity in your pack.

Mrs Cooper and Mrs Iqbal's phonic groups can you find the tricky words in a book that you may have at home? Can you put each tricky word in a sentence?

Using your cut up sounds can you play 'Make a word' in your phonic pack. For example, can you make the name of someone in your family like mum, dad, gran. Or you may want to make words of some things you may find around your house such as sink, cat, peg, bed, clock.

Now we would like you to practise writing your sounds on the formation sheet in your pack.

Start by doing some letter exercise with Jack Hartman to get your muscles ready for writing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFa0b_IIRac

If you have made some playdough why not get your finger muscles ready for writing by doing some dough disco:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K-CQrjI0uY

Look at the show me video where I am going to show you how to write the letters up to f:

https://www.showme.com/sh?h=glV7ymO

As always if you have any questions or want to send your work please email us: receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Letter to 2HR

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 12:24pm

Dear 2HR,

I hope you have all had a lovely, well deserved break over the weekend. Although I have only been in your class for a short period of time, you have made me feel extremely welcome and made me feel part of the 2HR family! I can instantly see the respect you have for each other and for your teachers which made me feel lucky to come to school and teach you all each day.

I know a lot of you were only just settling in to our new routine before we had to finish and were feeling very sad when we left on Friday. I have also found it difficult to leave you all this soon in to our new journey too. Mrs Murton and I worked very hard over the past week to make sure you were able to continue learning and experimenting whilst you are at home. We have planned some lovely activities for you to do with the help of your grown ups.

Please remember to send anything that you are proud of that you have completed at home to our very own email address so I can share it with your friends. I am sure you are all missing each other already as I am missing seeing you all too!

y2homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Keep an eye on our blog as I will be posting some fun challenges to keep you occupied! I will be taking part in some of them too.

Please do not worry and make sure that you are always being kind and gentle to everybody in your house. Don’t forget to continue to wash your hands regularly as this will help us get back to school as soon as possible!

From Miss Hamer

Challenge: Can you and your family make up a list of words that mean the same as big, middle-sized and small? We're Speaking Superheroes in Nursery so I think you'll be able to think of lots of words.

Remember to send in photos of you reading a book with an adult or your brother or sister to our home learning email:

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 10:41am

Good morning!

A message to parents - Today at 2:15pm on Facebook there is a live story time of 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea!' The children have read this story before and LOVED it! From this story, children were able to design their own favourite teas and innovate different characters who came to tea instead! It would be great if you could get your children to do this at home today!

Search Piper's Passport in your search bar on Facebook - Piper is live-streaming 'The Tiger who Came to Tea' at 2:15pm, although she is also posting other live stories daily!

Tuesday CHOOSE DAY

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 9:19am

Good morning.

Hope you're all feeling fit and healthy after watching Joe Wicks PE. If you missed it, catch it tomorrow at 9am.

Today it is Tuesday so that means Tuesday Choose Day. You get to choose out of the two tasks below, which you want to complete!

Task 1:

Recap over fractions, watch this video on YouTube (skip to 1:45 as he waffles on for far too long at the beginning!!!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p33BYf1NDAE

Recap from me:

½ of 12 =

So we remember: to find a fraction of an amount we do

Whole number ÷ the denominator (bottom)

e.g. 12 ÷ 2 = 6

But what if we want to find a fraction with a different number on the numerator (top)?

For example:

2/3 of 12 =

Whole number ÷ the denominator (bottom) REMEMBER THAT PART IS THE SAME.

Then you multiply (x) your answer by the numerator (top)

e.g. 2/3 of 12

12 ÷ 3 = 4

4 x 2=   8

2/3 of 12 = 8

Answer these questions below:

1. 1/5 of 45

2. 3/4 of 16

3. 2/8 of 64

4. 1/8 of 96

5. 2/3 of 36

Task 2:

Watch this video on YouTube. This video contains lots of key vocabulary, make sure you make notes of the words used in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsv7bYSrzMU&t=293s

Once you have watched the video, I would love for you to use your hands to measure these things in your bedroom. (You measure using your hands by putting one hand in front of the other touching then change the back one to the front and so on) or use a ruler if you do have one at home.

Measure:

1. the longest thing in your bedroom

2. the widest thing in your bedroom

3. the shortest thing in your bedroom

4. the tallest thing in your bedroom.

Take a picture of your findings and email them to me.

Remember, whatever task you choose on Tuesday Choose Day, I'd love to see. The email you can send it to is y3homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Speak tomorrow!

Miss Humphreys :)

Sentence of The Day

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 9:14am

Good Morning Year 6 I hope you're up and about on this beautiful sunny morning and not worrying about the prospect of having to stay at home too much- you have plenty to keep yourself busy at least! Here is a sentence for you to check over and correct-good luck!

Persuasive letter writing- links to your writing tasks

Can you spot 3 spelling errors (One is a year 5/6 spelling), a missing punctuation error and improve the green highlighted word?

Firstly the issue of excessive litter in the area immediatly surrounding the school building has increasinglly become worse, due to the lack of litter bins in the local visinity.

Once you have spotted the mistakes then send me your corrected sentence via our special year 6 email, tweet it to year 6 or post it on our school blog. I look forward to hearing from you.

Good morning from Miss Wendt too!

Hope you are all well and enjoyed some PE this morning. I thought we'd start today by working on something we have all found tricky at times in y5 - telling the time! I have uploaded a great interactive resource from Mathsframe for you to try. And remember, even if you don't get it right straight away, you will with practise!

https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/116/telling-the-time

Hola Amigos!

While I am away from school I am going to use some of the time to practise a new skill. I've decided that I would like to learn to speak Portuguese, as that is where my Mum & Dad live. It would be really nice to be able to order food and ask for help in Portuguese when I go to visit them. I think they'd be very surprised!

In class we love learning Spanish. Both myself and Miss Gallery love our Spanish lessons, and it has been amazing to see how much progress you have all made this year. I have added the link to a video all about las direcciones! It follows on from our map making activitiy the other week. And we know how much we enjoy a Spanish song!

https://rockalingua.com/videos/directions-right-left

Have a good day!
