Rainbows

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 12:13pm

Hello everyone!

The sun is shining on the rainbow Mrs Ganner made with you on Friday. It now sits proudly in the window at her house . Some of her friends have made brilliant rainbows in their houses too. You could ring your friends or send them a text to ask them to make one so Manchester is full of rainbows!

Can you send us photos of your  rainbow that we can put up on our blog so we can spread smiles across Manchester?

Send your photos to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk and we will put some of them up on our blog.

Friday sentence of the day and phonics

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 11:20am

Good Morning Everyone!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExaaIsrGm6U

It's Friday! I hope you've had a lovely week of home learning!

Sentence of the day

Here is the last sentence of the day for this week! Can you spot all of the mistakes and write the new sentence down?

sentence of the day

Phonics

Today's phonics focuses on our vowel families - a,e,i,o,u

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEbaEXf6BqM

Today we are just focusing on the ay and the ea family...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-uLFJp5ZtI - ay family

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqgkdWrSPTc - ee family

There are lots of ways to make the same sound. In the childrens home learning packs there are worksheets to support you with these sounds. You could also play games of I spy and ask the children to try the alternative spellings and find out which spelling is the correct one for the object. There are also some word card in your packs, encourage the children to read these words - this doesn't have to be a sit down activity though, get moving! The children could play hide and seek the words, relay races whilst reading the words or musical bumps - read a word when the music stops.

English writing

In school the children have been reading the book Naughty Bus. They have started to make their own buses and have thought of different Naughty things that the Bus might do! Here is a link to the story so that you can listen again!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJlLXoaglow&t=136s

For their writing activity we would like the children to write the story of the Naughty Bus. They can create their own little book and even make a Naughty Bus to go with it. It is important that the children are encouraged to use their phonics, capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and adjectives to make their writing interesting. We look forward to sharing the stories when we return back to school!

We hope you've had a good week of home learning. Now it's time to celebrate all that you have done!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2NZg6Sr9qo

Hope you all have a lovely weekend laugh

sentence of the day

Phonics

Today's phonics focuses on tricky words and today we are looking at phase three tricky words. Some children know how to spell these words and are quite confident, however, they forget to use the correct spelling when writing sentences.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R087lYrRpgY

Here is a song to help the children to remember the tricky words - Be warned it will be stuck in your heads all day smiley

Use this video and the activity book in your folders as a starting point to help the children remember how to spell the tricky words. Try and get creative with the children with remembering the tricky words, making pictures and posters and using playdough, pasta and chalks to spell out the words are some fun and rememberable ways to help the children to remember the spellings.

Reading

Todays reading focuses on those tricky words! Here is another video just in case the children need another reminder of those words...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri4u0TjAZ38

In your packs there is a tricky word spotter story. The children need to read the story and find all of the tricky words. Alternativley you could read another story and see how many of the tricky words you can find in that.

Dont forget to take some pictures of all the fun activities you're doing and send them to y1homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk we'd love to see your smiling faces ! Also if you have any questions please email us !

See you again tomorrow for some more home learning!

Wednesday sentence of the day and phonics

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 10:29am

Good Morning!

I hope you are all enjoying your home learning so far!

Here's a little something to wake you all up this morning...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ9q4U2P3ig

Sentence of the day

I hope you have been enjoying your sentences of the day - I am sorry about my croaky voice!

Sentence of the day

Phonics

Todays phonics focus is split digraphs. You will be looking at the a-e and the e-e split digrpahs today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkycxr-joDk - a-e

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFuETDoqVnA e-e

Use these videos as a starting point and play some games with the children. You may want to collect some items in your house and ask the children to sort them into things that have an a-e split digraph and things that have an e-e split digraph. If I spy was a hit the other day you might want to play that again. There are a-e and e-e words in your home learning packs for the children to practice reading. You may want to cut these up and place them around the house and ask the children to go on a treasure hunt for them all.

English writing - with a phonics link

The focus for todays writing is linked to the trigraph phonics that you did on Monday. The children can re watch the Geraldine the Giraffe videos to remind them of the different sounds. In your packs you have some pictures and word cards with words containing the four trigraphs on them - air, ear, ure, igh. The children can use the cards to make their own silly stories, poems or sentences.

Wishing you all a lovely Wednesday :)

Tuesday Sentence of the day and phonics

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 9:55am

Good morning Year One!

Let's wake up and shake up our brains this morning...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gUbdNbu6ak

Sentence of the day

Every day we will be posting a sentence of the day. The children will need to read the sentence themselves and find the corrections. They can write their corrected sentence into their special notebooks that are in the home learning packs. The following day we will post the corrected sentence so don't forget to check back in so that you can get the answers. The sentences will link with the phonics learning for that day.

sentence of the day

Phonics

Today's phonics focuses on the common exception words that children need to learn in year one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Bc83J6AFfI

In your home learning packs you have a common exception words workbook. Use this book as a start point that the children can work through in the next few weeks to remember their common exception words. Most of the children love games like bingo to remember these words !

Reading Comprehension

The children have a reading comprehension in their home learning pack. Support them to work through this using their phonics to read any unfamiliar words.

Don't forget to carry on reading books for pleasure at this time too!

Hello from Mrs Turner

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 9:45am

Monday 23rd March 2020

Good morning everyone I hope you are all up and looking forward to a day of learning at home. It is a beautiful day perhaps you can have some time in the garden. I am sorry that I wasn't in school last week, both the government and Mrs Hughes advised that I stay at home but please don't worry I am not sick! I really do miss you all, I was so enjoying going around all the school and teaching so many of you, what amazing children you are.

Year 6 I am especially sorry that we have not had the chance to say goodbye. I remember you all so fondly from year 4 and wish you well with all that the future holds. I believe that each and every one of you has a special future and encourage to grab every opportunity that life gives you. Work hard at high school it will be so worth it.

For everybody else I look forward to seeing you soon - imagine how great that first day will be when we are allowed back into school. I can't wait!  I have seen that Joe Wicks is doing a PE lesson every morning on line, I would encourage you to join in its so important that you stay active even when you are stuck inside.

Stay safe and I will see you soon.

Love Mrs Turner (Hibbs)

Monday sentence of the day and phonics

Good morning Year One!

I hope you all had a nice weekend and are up and ready to learn! Don't forget that Joe Wicks is doing a P.E lesson to wake up our brains and bodies every morning at 9am.

Phonics

Today's phonics focuses on trigraphs (three letters that make one sound). The trigraphs are air, ear, ure and igh.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcHIX2xK--A - air

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYCR2RZ4ZYY - igh

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwCzf71flBA - ure

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EneZ1UubxSA - ear

Use these videos as a starting point to help the children remember the sounds. Once the children have watched the video encourage them to play a game of I spy just like Geraldine. The children can find items with the different sounds in. The children can then write labels for the items using their phonics knowledge to spell the words correctly. Once you have finished these activities there are some worksheets to match the learning in week one phonics in the home learning packs.

SPAG

The focus of todays SPAG is adding the suffix -ed to a word to make it past tense. There is a worksheet in the home learning packs to support this and children can change the words from present to past tense by adding ed. The children can then write their own silly sentences using these words.

A message from your teachers

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 9:01am

To my AMAZING year one class,

I have loved being your teacher this year and I have loved getting to know each and every one of you. I have loved teaching you new things and making new special memories with you. Some of my favourites have to be our pancake day party and our trip to Manchester airport! You are such a lovely class and you all care about one another and have such wonderful friendships and this makes me so proud of you all.

It's a really confusing time right now and I know that you are upset that you won't be able to come to school every day and that makes me feel sad too. But I want you to remember that we have to do this to make sure we are keeping ourselves and our friends and families safe and to stop them from becomming poorly. Whilst you are not in school I want you to look after yourself and your family and remember to keep washing your hands!

I know that you all love learning new things so over the next few weeks we have put together lots of learning that you can do at home. We will also be posting learning every day on this blog so don't forget to check in! Try your hardest and don't forget to send me any pictures of you completing your learning as you know I love to see your smiling faces doing new things!

I already can't wait until we come back to school and I can hear all about your time at home and all of the different things you have done. But for the time being keep smiling, keep making your brains strong and keep washing your hands!

Love from Miss Riley x smiley

An Eggsellent Friday!

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 8:43am

On Friday Year 1 had an Easter Eggstravanganza!

The children made a yummy rice krispie cake each.

They waited all afternoon to eat it!

Which made them taste even better when they did!

Then the children found out that the Easter Bunny had been into school! They searched high and low for Easter eggs!

Until at last everybody found one!

What an eggsellent day!

Hi Everyone,

Here are the details of your first activity linked to the 'Creative Homework.'

Today I want you to talk to your grown up about the question 'What comes out of an egg?' Look at the stories that we have used in class and discuss which one you liked and why. Then I would like you to decided on which story you will be using to create something. When you are watching the videos of the stories talk about the characters, what was happening and which animals came out of an egg.

Last week

Date: 22nd Mar 2020 @ 4:24pm

Hi every,

I hope you are all looking after each other and keeping yourselves safe.

Last week was a very strange and emotional time for all of us. I can honestly say that I don't think I have ever had a more difficult week in all the years I have been teaching. Friday wasn't like any ordinary Friday because we are not sure when we will see each other again, fingers crossed it won't be too long before we are all back in school together. The most important thing at the moment is that we keep ourseleves safe and if the grownups tell us that this is what we need to do, then we need to follow their advice. It hasn't been an easy decision to make.

Many of you were worried and had lots of questions which we didn't know the answers to, we might never will. But it's ok to feel lworried and anxious but you won't always feel like this.I know that you all wanted to stay in school, we wanted you to stay in school too but not to worry you have lots of lovely home learning to complete. Remember to tweet us and send pictures and messages to your yeargroup email. We can't wait to see how you're getting on! Your teachers will post messages and activities on the class blog so keep checking in.

A special message for children in the Nursery. I have put the rainbow you made me in my window at home and everyone who has seen has given me a big smile. Here it is!

Thank you for all the kind words and messages of support we have received from parents last week. They were very much appreciated in what was a difficult week.

We will send updates on twitter, via the school website, by text message and email.

Take care and look after yourself.

Best wishes,

Mrs Hughes

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much to the children that have already emailed me to say hello! It put a smile on my face immediately :)

There are some children who have already asked that I email them the video, as they struggle to watch this on their phones. If you would like the videos emailed to you, please email me and let me know.

If there is a particular topic or subject you want to see first (e.g. fractions in maths, or one of the writing activities) then please email me. I want to priotise what will benefit you all the most.

maths session 1                   Focus: Number Formation

The focus of the session today is Number formation. Some of the children find it tricky, often reversing and writing numbers from the bottom. Please use the number formation sheets today to practice writing the numbers using the starting point dots to remember to write tne numbers from the top.To help the children to remember how to write the numbers correctly it might be useful to listen to the songs on the following links . I have tried to give children a variety of songs. Find the song that works for your child !

Message from the teacher

Date: 22nd Mar 2020 @ 12:27pm

Today has been a tricky day! We have had alot of worried adults and children who are feeling very sad about the school closure. I just want to say a big thank you to the wonderful families who  have been so supportive and caring in such uncertain times.I have sent a letter to all the childrenn to help explain why they are not coming into school and tell them about their learning packs. Please take care of yourselves and I hope to see you soon.

A quick message to say ...

Date: 21st Mar 2020 @ 1:43pm

Yesterday was a very emotional day having to say goodbye to you. Even though it was goodbye in person, it doesn't mean that it's a complete goodbye. I don't start at my new school for another four weeks, so until then I will still be available on the blog and also via the twitter page.

If you want to send in any photographs (please do!) to show us what fun things you've been up to while you're at home then our email is : y2homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk and the twitter account is: @Ravensburycomm1

Looking forward to hearing from you

Miss Calvert

Dear 2CC

Date: 21st Mar 2020 @ 1:40pm

Dear 2CC

I was feeling sad that I didn’t properly get to say goodbye to all of you, so thought I’d write you a letter instead.

I want to tell you how incredibly proud I am of you and how you have made me smile every single day this year. Even when things have been a little bit different recently (and you have had to wash your hands a million times a day!) you took everything in your stride and continued to be the most loving, considerate class any teacher could wish for. The way you speak to each other and care for one another makes my heart fill with pride. I have never known a more supportive and caring class. Continue to support one another, even when we’re not in school. Take photographs and send them to the twitter account or year group email address so we can share what we’ve all been up to.

Finally, I just want to say good luck for the future. With your hard-working, can do attitude, I know that you will continue to do well and can achieve anything you set your mind to. Always remember that it’s ‘I can’t do it … YET!’ and if you want to achieve something then you have to practice, because practice makes … PROGRESS! Thank you for being the best class I could have ever wished for, you made every day fun and I always went home with a smile on my face or with something to laugh about. I will miss each and every one of you. Take care of yourself and your families and remember to stay safe.

Miss Calvert

Goodbye (for now!)

Date: 20th Mar 2020 @ 3:49pm

Dear Year 6,

I know that this has been a weird couple of weeks and firstly I want to thank you for how fantastic and mature you have been despite our changes in routine!

The next few weeks are going to be strange, and at the moment I’m not sure when we will be back in school to talk about it all again. However, I want you to continue to work hard and try not to worry. We’ve sent you home with lots of things to help keep you busy!

Even though school might be closed for a while, don’t worry, your learning can continue! (I know you were all panicking about that). As a Year 6 team we have put together packs for you to use throughout your time off. The aim of this is to keep your skills up ready for when you come back to school. Try to do a little every day, it will help! There are also some mindfulness activities and some PE exercises you might like to do for a break.

Remember to check our class blog every day.   I will post some ideas for activities you can have a go at, and any videos I make or find to help you with your learning at home.

Please stay in touch! Email/tweet me in any work or fun activities you get up to (I will even accept Fortnite dances as ‘fun activities’ although after my attempts today I’m not sure they count – I’ll keep practising). You know I love seeing what you have been up to at home so I am super excited for the coming weeks! I will be checking TT Rockstars too so watch out for those battle invitations!

Finally from me, remember that you are all wonderful; it has been a joy having you in my class this year and I have absolutely loved teaching and getting to know each and every one of you. I am optimistic that we will be back together in school again this year and I am looking forward to seeing you all again already!

Have a lovely break, stay safe and look after yourselves (keep washing those hands!)

**PLEASE READ 5HW** From Miss Wendt

Date: 20th Mar 2020 @ 3:33pm

Hello 5HW!

How are you all doing? The past few days have been very strange not being in school, I love our afternoons together with Miss Gallery, so it has seemed very weird not to be there.

I want you all to know that just because I’m not in school doesn’t mean that I am poorly. What I am doing is being very sensible, taking the advice of doctors (and Mrs Hughes!) and staying away to protect myself and others. You might hear the words social distancing in the news. This is what it means, although it doesn’t feel very social at the moment. There are lots of people who are having to do the same.

This is a really strange time for us all. In my lifetime (and you know how old I am!) I have never experienced anything like this before. And just like you probably do, I have lots of questions. Not all of those questions have answers at the moment. But that’s ok, scientists all over the world are trying to find those answers out for us.

What I want you to know is this; I am immensely proud of all of you this year. You have worked so hard to achieve so much. Mrs Hodges and I haven’t made it easy, but you have risen to every challenge we’ve thrown at you. And you will rise to this one.

So, you all know how much I love it when you bring in things from home to show me. Well 5HW, here’s a big challenge for you! I’m going to be putting something on the blog every single day for you to look at. It might be maths, science or even Spanish (you know how much me and Miss Gallery love our Spanish lessons!). It might even be a picture or a little video clip – although any videos will likely feature Katy or Toulouse as you know I don’t like having my picture taken! But what is important is that we will not lose touch. I’m here for you, even if I’m sat in my house working in my comfy pants with crazy hair!

Our year 5 email is y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk – I’ll be checking it every day and I promise I will respond to your emails.

I’ve been thinking about all the things I will miss over the next few weeks and I honestly think I could go on forever! But I’ve narrowed it down to 10, if anyone wants to add to the list – then email me and we can add them. We can look at this the next time we are together, and it will remind us of the fun we have!

10. Asking for extra time to ask me and Miss Gallery random questions about everything!

9. How much you all love learning Spanish

8. The number of people who are desperate to take the register to the office

7. The interest and excitement you show when learning something new in maths

6. The fact you never let me forget anything (which I have to admit, does come in handy!)

5. Our daily “where in the world is Miss Wendt?” chat when my screensaver changes

4. The fact that you all love Lego and art (my favourite things when I was 10)

3. The beautiful pictures you draw for me – and that so many of you use techniques I taught you in art club

2. Your kindness to others (including me, Mrs Hodges and Miss Gallery) when they are feeling down

And perhaps, the most important one of all…

A message from our teachers

Date: 20th Mar 2020 @ 2:15pm

Today has been very emotional. We know that you might be feeling like that too so we thought we'd share a few thoughts with you. Things will be different for a while but we will still be able to do lots of the things we love if you watch our blog.

The children have decided they would like you to join in with our favourite stories and practice drawing and share some of our favourite songs and videos over the coming weeks on this blog. Check back every day to see what we are putting up on the blog to help you practice at home.

We care, We soar’
