Welcome to 5HC - we're so pleased to welcome you back to school!

There are lots of interesting and engaging topics to learn about in Year 5, including the Greeks, Space and the Victorians. We will be improving our reading and writing through investigating different genres and exploring different sentence structures and vocabulary. In maths, we will be driving to perfect all the times tables to 12 x12 and learning lots of interesting maths facts about numbers, triangles and angles!

Things to remember!

P.E. Kits

It’s very important that your child is appropriately dressed for P.E. We are asking that the children come to school wearing their P.E. kit on their P.E. day. They can stay in their P.E. kit for the day, and do not need to bring normal school uniform into school as well.

As much as the weather allows, all P.E. will be OUTDOORS, therefore children should wear black leggings or a black tracksuit, a white t-shirt and a school jumper. They must wear trainers.

Our P.E. days are Wednesday (outside, weather permitting) and Friday (inside).

Reading Books and Reading Records

Every morning, all children have the opportunity to choose a reading book which is suitable for their reading level, and bring this home along with their reading record. Their reading book and reading record should be brought back to school EVERY DAY.

Reading every day is very important; in Year 5, we encourage children to read their book for at least 15 minutes each day. To show that they have done this, we would still ask that you sign your child's reading record every day during the school week. We will check the reading records each Friday, and for every day they have read (and had it signed by you), they will receive a stamp in their bookmark to a maximum of five stamps per week. 20 stamps means a prize from our special prize box!
