Monday's Learning - Year One

Date: 21st Jun 2020 @ 5:55pm

Hello Everyone!

We hope you have enjoyed your weekend and managed to play out in the sunshine! I went for a healthy walk on Saturday. I went to Sale Water Park and fed the ducks and the geese. On Sunday, I went to visit my dad at his allotment. I stood far away from him and wished him a Happy Father's Day. I bought him some cup a soups and chocolate milkshake. He drunk all the chocolate milkshake whilst I was there. He was very pleased to see me and very shocked. We stayed safe and didn't stand close to each other, we just talked.  We hope you had some nice talking time with your families too!

We hope you are ready for some new learning. We will continue to update the daily challenges and have updated the weekly challenges, ready for learning this week. Let's see how many weekly challenges you can complete this week. We are going to celebrating children who are completing weekly reading and spelling challenges this week.

All the learning this week will be on Padlet so make sure you copy and save this link and use it everyday.

Hello Wildlife Wardens of Ravensbury!

We’ve reached the end of another week getting out in the wild. We have such a lot of beauty in our world. Remember that when you see something in the wild.

Today’s challenge is to draw a wildflower. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law have lived in lots of amazing places around the world. Some of the photos at the bottom are from places as far away as Saudi Arabia and some are from my local woods. Can you find a wildflower and draw it?

Have a fun filled day

Today’s challenge is to see if you can race to find the colours of the rainbow before you get wet in the rain! Maybe you’ll find an orange flower and green grass? These are the colours you are looking for and remember to send in your photos:

Yesterday I discovered that a squirrel’s front teeth never stop growing. Squirrels must gnaw to keep their teeth at the right length. What did you find out?

I also hear this beautiful birdsong every night at tea time. Does anyone know what bird is singing?

Good Morning!

Date: 17th Jun 2020 @ 5:53am

Hello everyone!

Well, it is a rainy Wednesday! Let's hope the weather improves through the day and you can play in your garden at some point today. At least your paddling pools will be nice and full, although they might be a bit cold! I should imagine they would be freezing! Well, I had a disaster yeasteerday. I received a phone call from my daughter Madeleine, asking me to come home becausse the cellar in my house was flooding. All my belongings were floating in the water and she was splashing in her wellington boots, a bit like Peppa and Daddy pig in muddy puddles.Luckily, we have two mop buckets and we managed to remove most of the water. I hope all of your houses are o.k.? Let me know if you have any stories too! I have been told that Mrs Ganner found a frog in her garden. I wonder if he is going to turn into a prince?

Today, we will be working from Padlet. Please follow the link below

Keep working hard and Miss Riley sends big virtual hugs from the year One classroom.

Date: 16th Jun 2020 @ 7:36am

Happy Tuesday Ravensbury!

I hope you are well and you managed to get out yesterday before the thunderstorms. It’s a bit cooler today but hopefully we’ll have some sunshine later.

You can see my butterfly buffet challenge at the bottom. The butterflies didn’t come but there were a couple of visitors and this morning half of the peach I put out had gone! I wonder who enjoyed it. What do you think?

Today your challenge is to go outside, find some wildlife and then google facts about them. What’s the most interesting fact you can find? Write down your answers and send a photo or send a short video in telling us what you’ve discovered about our wild friends outside.

Have a  terrific Tuesday

Tuesday's Learning

Date: 15th Jun 2020 @ 9:41pm

Hello everybody!

We hope you had a lovely day yesterday and didn't get too scared by the thunder and lightning. It was cold and then sunny, the weather just couldn't decide what to do next. The children didn't know whether they should wear their coats or not! Well the year one children in school used the work from Padlet like the children at home and then had to practice how to clean their hands and sit at their tables without wandering around the classroom, which they found really tricky. Hopefully it will get easier through the week. So today's learning continues to be on Padlet. Please follow the link below to access the learning. Please email your learning to yr1homelearning@ravensbuury.manchester.sch.uk, Don't worry if you are busy, it is fine to email examples of your child's work in at the end of the week.

Date: 15th Jun 2020 @ 8:26am

Good morning Ravensbury!

Welcome to week 3 of our Summer Term and the beginning of our third week going wild. Did you manage to find something wild over the weekend?

I went to our local woods with my family and I hugged a tree. It made me smile, as you can see in the photo at the bottom. Send in your photos if anything you got up to over the weekend.

Today we are going to help our fluttery friends by giving them a treat. See what visits your garden when you put out a sugary buffet for the wildlife. I'm hoping I get some butterflies.

Happy Monday!

Date: 14th Jun 2020 @ 8:16pm

Hello everybody,

We hope you are all o.k and have had a lovely weekend. I don't know about you but I have struggled to keep up with the weather. One minute I was wearing shorts and reading a book in the brilliant sunshine then the next minute I was wearing wellingtons. Can we say a big thank you to all the families who are accessing Padlet to see the home learning. It seems that alot of families are preferring using it and are finding it alot easier to use it. Please remember to let the year one staff know what you like/dislike about Padlet and to keep sending your work into the year one email. yr1homellearning@ravensbury.manchester.co.uk.

Welcome back to the children who are coming back into school today and will be reading this blog at the beginning of the day. If you are at home, we just want you to know that we are missing you and can't wait to see you back at school when your adults think it is safe.

All your learning this week will be on Padlet so make sure you follow this link below

9th June 30 Days Wild - Challenge 9

Good morning,

Today sees a challenge that we should do every day. Litter is a big problem for wildlife. It can hurt them and so I’d like to see if you can pick up litter to make your area tidy and safe for the animals that live close to us.

  • DO NOT pick up anything that could hurt you.
  • ALWAYS do this activity with an adult.
  • WEAR protective gloves if you have any.
  • USE a litter picker if you can.

Send me your litter picking photos in to:

nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Have a great day

From Mrs Ganner

Daily Update:

We’ve had some amazing photos in from children in the Foundation Stage. Look at how happy they are looking after the wildlife they have found. They are being really careful too. Read what they say about their learning:

‘We have been out in the parks and garden looking for wild life. We saw some ducks with babies and a spider in the garden. We also have 3 snails which we look after and feed them every day.’

‘This is my friend the worm. I have been watering it and feeding it. Worms don't have any legs because they wiggle.

You really are ‘Wonderful Wildlife Wardens’

‘We create, We explore,

We care, We soar’
