Toy day

Date: 15th Mar 2018 @ 8:49am

We were allowed to bring in our toys from home as part of our Connected Curriculum topic ‘Toys Alive!’

It was the best day ever! We got to play with our friends toys and had so much fun. We decided which toy was our favourite and took a picture using the camera. We then made a pictogram to see which toy was the most popular toy in our class.

We had an amazing time at Blackpool Zoo! We saw lots of African animals, such as giraffes, lions, zebras, gorillas, an elephant, camels, meerkats, etc. We had a very interesting lesson teaching us all about animals habitats – this means the loaded where animals live. We even got to stroke a bearded dragon!

Potato pick!

Date: 15th Mar 2018 @ 8:41am

supertato set us a challenge. In preparation for sports day we had our very own potato pick competition. We each had a turn collecting as many potatoes as we could in 30 seconds. We then had to find our number on the number line and write our name next to the number. We then used this to find out who was the winner. We knew that the person with the most was the winner!

Super counting!

Date: 15th Mar 2018 @ 8:40am

Supertato finally got in touch with us! We were so worried about him when the evil pea kidnapped him. He gave us some terrible news … There is more than one evil pea!!!!! He had managed to trap some and freeze them but there are lots more on the loose! He asked us to count how many were trapped so he knew how many more were out there! We used our careful counting skills to see how many there were.

A day in the park

On Friday afternoon we went on a trip to Phillip’s Park. We are lucky to be so close to such an amazing place! Whilst we were there we went to visit an allotment, played on the playground, had a picnic and went on a tree hunt. There was a surprise in the park, lots of dinosaurs!
We were all beautifully behaved and we had a great day!

The caterpillars have arrived!

Date: 15th Mar 2018 @ 8:40am

12.6.17
It was very exciting this week in Year 1. We received a special parcel. The parcel contained five real life caterpillars!
We learned about how caterpillars grow. We know that they need to eat all their food. When they are big and fat they will turn upside down into a ‘J’ shape ready to make their chrysalis.

21.6.17
We have watched our caterpillars for over a week. They have grown and they are really hairy. Today our caterpillars have started to make a J shape. Keep on reading to find out more!!

28.6.17
Today our first butterfly emerged from the chrysalis.
Junior – “The wings were all curled up”
Emily B – “The butterfly got rid of its waste – it looked like blood”
Felix – “We saw the tongue”
Asa – The next day the butterfly was flying because it has strong wings.
Idris- “We fed the butterfly with apple and water”
We put sugar in the water to make nectar.

29.6.17
Today our second butterfly came out of the chrysalis.
Cody “The wings are now red, orange and black. The butterfly got rid of all the bits it didn’t need.”
Fi – “The chrysalides split and the butterfly came out”
Morino- “The face of the caterpillar is gone”
We like our butterflies and we are excited to watch them grow.

30.6.17
We now have 3 butterflies!
Miss Dooley is going to take them home and hopefully the other two will come out too!

3.7.17
Miss Dooley had to let our three butterflies go because they were ready to leave the net. Her daughter Connie let them go in her garden. On Saturday the last two butterflies emerged. Miss Dooley brought them back to school.
We released the butterflies in the Reception playground. They were so strong and healthy that they flew away straight away.
One of the butterflies came back! We watched the butterfly on the tent and then it flew away again.
Ritchie “I enjoyed watching the butterfly fly.”
Emily H “I enjoyed taking them outside”.
Luke “I enjoyed learning all about butterflies”.
Janelle “I enjoyed watching the butterfly come back”.
Dixon “I liked visiting the caterpillars”.
Nathan “I saw the butterfly when I went home!”
Isaak “I like the butterflies because they are really fast”.
Vian “I liked it when it flew”.

Gerbils!

Date: 15th Mar 2018 @ 8:39am

Today Mrs Ganner’s gerbils came to visit our class. They are called Fudge and Spidey. We found out how to care for them. We have decided that caring for gerbils and caring for sunflowers is sometimes the same and sometimes different.
Gerbils need…
Water
Cucumbers
Chocolate drop treats
Cheese
Special gerbil food
A tiny bit of bread
A brush to groom their fur
A cage to live in
We know that gerbils don’t like getting wet!

The gerbils need to nibble and gnaw to stop their teeth getting to long!

We have enjoyed learning how to take care of the gerbils. Thank you Mrs Ganner for letting us look after them.

Toys Alive!!

Date: 15th Mar 2018 @ 8:38am

This half term we have been very busy in 1SD.
First Miss Dooley brought in her daughters magical toy box. We wrote poems to bring back the magic and make the toys come to live. It worked! Oh no, the toys were naughty and made a lot of mess and trouble.
Do we think our parents and grandparents toys would misbehave? we found out all about old toys and wrote arguments to say which we liked best and why.
This half term we also performed our very first class assembly and showed of all our amazing learning. We sang songs and paraded the kites we had made. Displayed our art work and even showed the school our maths learning.
We hope all our parents enjoyed the show. Thank you for coming!
