Easter Holiday Activities

Date: 3rd Apr 2020 @ 12:50pm

Good Afternoon Reception,

We are now finishing for the Easter Holidays. It has been a very strange half term where we started in school but have ended the half term in an unusual situation of home learning. This I can only imagine has been different for all of us, but we must think about why we are doing it.

Over the holiday period we won't be posting daily activities on our class blog pages but in your packs you do have a Holiday Activity that looks like this:

I know some of you have already completed this. So a little later we will be blogging some other activities that you may want to do over the holidays.

Keep sending in your photos/videos of things that do over the holidays. We will continue to check emails at times over the holiday period.

Wellbeing challenge number 6

Date: 3rd Apr 2020 @ 10:55am

Happy Friday everyone and well done for learning at home for 2 whole weeks! As strange as I've found it not being at school, the time has flown by for me so I hope it feels the same for you.

I'm going to do one final wellbeing challenge for today and then take a break for the next 2 weeks for the Easter holiday. However, check back on Monday morning as over the weekend I am going to set you a little wellbeing project in case anyone wants an Easter challenge.

Since it's the end of the week, today's challenge is to relax and get ready for the weekend so I want everyone to do a guided meditation. This is when you close your eyes and listen to a lovely soothing voice transport you to somewhere new. They are great for helping you to sleep or if you just want to relax at the end of your learning.

There are plenty available on Youtube, here are a few of my favourites:

Secret treehouse - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWOHcGF1Tmc

Spaceship to the moon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV9BBR1RoGg

Hot air balloon ride - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlv6Y1tq1sQ

Have a great Easter holiday and don't forget to check back for the challenge next week if you think you'd like to do it. I'll be back with a daily challenge from Monday the 20th of April if we're still at home then.

Past challenges

Thank you to Mrs Ganner for sending me a photo of her daughter completing the baking challenge from earlier in the week, it looks amazing and has made me want to bake something chocolately myself this weekend! I think I might make some brownies as a treat for my husband!

Friday Challenges!

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 7:35pm

Good Morning Reception,

I can't believe it's Friday in our second week of home learning. Has it already been two weeks since we left school...?surprise

If it's Friday then that only means it's Challenge Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today we would like you to choose some activities of your choice from the Activity sheet which is attached to this blog. You may choose 1, 2, 3 or more. We would like you to complete your activity inside or outside your house using the resources around you. What will you choose?

My son Adam was my helper today and he decided to choose three of the activities on the list. He chose:

Activity 1 - He wrote numbers on some pieces of card and made a number line on our washing line in the garden. We played some games with the washing line numbers:

Missing number - He closed his eyes and I took a number away. He had to guess which number was missing. It got trickier when I took away 3 or four numbers.

Squirt the number - Use a water gun or nerf style gun to hit the target number.

Activity 8 - Adam used the toys in his bedroom to make the letters of his name. What can you use in your house to do this activity?

Activity 10 - Adam found some crayons and practised writing his tricky words, numbers and letters outside in our back garden on the paving stones.

We can't wait to see which ones you will do!!!!

Don't forget to send in your videos/photos to our email receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Good Luck Love Mrs Iqbal and Miss Williams smiley

Tomasz has really enjoyed the story 'The Odd Egg' and decided to create a model from the story. It looks amazing!!

Ferdows has been making a model of the lifecycle of a chicken and mastering the art of origami. This is when you fold pieces of paper to create things like animals.

Well Done!!! smiley

Wellbeing challenge number 5

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 11:32am

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all still working hard and staying safe. Thanks to both children and staff who've been e-mailing me pictures of their wellbeing challenges, it's really cheering me up! I've included some at the bottom of my post again.

Today's wellbeing challenge is all about yoga. Yoga is a great way to relax and escape for a while and it's good for both your bodies and minds. I like to put on some relaxing music while I do it and am lucky enough to have a lovely bright pink yoga mat too as otherwise I'd be on a hard wooden floor. A carpet, rug or blanket would work just as well though.

There's a great channel on Youtube called Cosmic Kids that does lots of different fun yoga sessions: https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga (I know that Miss Bryce's class have done some of these sessions and we did some school last week too so some of you are already great at it!)

Any adults reading, or maybe older children who fancy something a bit more difficult could have a go at this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTANio_2E0Q

Here I am below doing the bound ankle pose :-)

Remember to let us know how you get on!

Mrs Glover

Past challenges

Thanks Ferdows in reception who has e-mailed in a picture of his origami rabbit from yesterdays challenge, I love it!

Another thank you to Mrs Iqbal and her son Adam who did the baking challenge from Tuesday and made this delicious looking chocolate cake!

Thursday Shape Hunt

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 8:13am

Good Morning Reception!

Today I would like you to take part in a…..

As you know, I LOVE to take part in these scavenger hunts too!

Take a look at what I found in the video below!

Do you think you can find more shapes than me?

Can you take your own shape pictures or make a video?

Have a go and send them to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk, I'm looking forward to seeing them!! :)

Phonic Scavenger Hunt

Date: 1st Apr 2020 @ 3:48pm

Good Morning Reception,

Today for phonics I want you to go on a scavenger hunt looking for objects in your house that may begin or have the Phase 2 sounds in the word. A scavenger hunt is when you are looking around all parts of your house indoors or outdoors for objects. You may want to look in cupboards, drawers but make sure you speak to an adult when you are looking for your objects.

Adam and I went on a scavenger hunt in our house and found lots of things that begin with or have the sounds in Phase 2. Look in your Phonic pack for the Phase 2 sound mat or look at the sheet that I have attached to this blog. Before we went on the hunt we wrote out the sounds on pieces of paper so we knew what objects we were looking for.

Make sure to send in your photos to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Good Luck

Mrs Iqbal laugh

Wellbeing challenge number 4

Date: 1st Apr 2020 @ 10:53am

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I don't know about you but 2 of my favourite things in the world that always make me feel good are animals and travelling. While I can't travel now, I thankfully have my 2 rabbits, Rupert and Angel, to keep me company at home. Here is a picture of them underneath!

So since I can't travel right now, or see any other animals, I am doing these things in a different way: by looking at this website all about wild animals around the world https://gowild.wwf.org.uk/

It has information and activities about lots of different animals from lots of different regions (Year 2, it has a section on Polar animals which would link nicely to your topic right now!) so you can virtually travel round the world. It even has drawing and photography competitions that you can enter and have your work appear on the website!

I particularly like this activity to make Amazon animal hand shadows https://gowild.wwf.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Amazon-hand-shadows.pdf (although I didn't have much luck trying to take a good photo of mine. Perhaps you can do better than me and send one to your home learning address?)

So your wellbeing challenge for today is to choose your favourite area or animal from the website or even complete one of the activities and send a picture or just a bit of writing about it to your home learning e-mail address if you would like to. Or pehaps enter one of the competitions on there and tell us all about it.

Mrs Glover

Past challenges

A big thanks to Zainab in reception for sending in a picture of her brownies. Well done Zainab, they looked delicious!

And thanks to Miss Iqbal who sent me her picture of what makes her and her family smile that she did wih her son Adam! You can see it below:

Wednesday Reading Scavenger Hunt

Date: 1st Apr 2020 @ 8:16am

Good Morning Reception!

Today I thought it would be a fun idea to take part in a READING SCAVENGER HUNT! This is where we have to go around our house/ on the internet to find a book that fits the instruction I give you… Each week I will provide you with a different instruction to find a book!

Your instruction for today is to find a book that makes you LAUGH!

I took part in this challenge too!

The book I have chosen, REALLY makes me laugh! It is called ‘I Need a Wee!’ by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. Has anyone read this book before? It is hilarious! It’s all about a bear called Alan. Now, Alan has a bit of a problem… He really, really needs a wee! But things seem to keep getting in his way! Have a listen to the story using the link below!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4Kiy07-9MI

Now can you find a book that makes you laugh?

Can you read it and take a picture?

Can you write a sentence and draw a picture?

Can you tell me what happens and about the main characters in the story?

I can’t WAIT to all hear about it!

Please email all of your pictures/work to  receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk and have fun!! :)

Mrs Glover's Well Being Challenges

Date: 31st Mar 2020 @ 6:44pm

Reception have you seen the well being challenges that Mrs Glover has been putting on all the class blogs. Why not have a go at challenge number 2 and 3.

Challenge 2 is asking you to draw a sunshine and fill it with words and pictures of things that make you smile. Have a look at my sunshine to give you some ideas. I cut up pictures and stuck them in my sunshine but you can draw them as well.

Challenge 3 is a cooking/baking activity that you must do with a grown up. Mrs Glover would like you to cook or bake something and send in photos. You might do it at the end of the week or even plan to do it at the weekend. She even suggested to look at this website for some recipe ideas:

https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes

Me and Adam will be cooking something this week. I'll make sure to blog a photo!

Keep checking the class blogs because Mrs Glover may be setting you some more well being challenges.

Wellbeing challenge number 3

Date: 31st Mar 2020 @ 10:49am

Hello everyone!

Today's challenge is something that I often enjoy doing when I'm feeling a little sad or worried about something.

Today I am challenging you to cook or bake something! If you can't do it today then why not plan something to make later in the week or even at the weekend?

Take a look at this website that has plenty of easy and healthy recipes to look or see if you can invent something that includes the contents of your fridge or cupboard https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes

Yesterday I made these cheese scones for me and my husband to have for lunch this week (they're not very healthy but they're very tasty and it's okay to have a little treat once in a while! cheeky)

Make sure you ask an adult to help you with any cooking or cutting and don't do anything before you check it's okay!

Have fun,

Mrs Glover

A big thanks to Miss Kenwell who sent me a picture of her sunshine yesterday (pictured below), she put my drawing to shame! laugh

Tuesday Number Formation

Today I would like you to focus on number formation! If you have the ‘Easter Maths Booklet,’ you should find this page below in your booklet. Can you form your numbers correctly and colour in the eggs?

If you have the ‘Easter Maths Booklet to 20’ you can use paper.

I have also attached additional links to practise number formation 0-20 below for you to download and print.

Use the ‘show me’ links below to practise your number formation using some fun rhymes to help you remember how to form your numbers correctly!

Tuesday 31st Colour hunt - Practical Activity

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 4:35pm

Good Morning Reception,

This morning I would like you to go on a colour hunt around your house. You are searching for things that are red or things that are your favourite colour. Use the show me video below to help you:

https://www.showme.com/sh?h=VbFp81g

You might want to draw and list the things you have found. I can't wait to see what you find...

Send in your videos or photos to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Tuesday 31st Phonics

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 3:40pm

Good Morning Reception,

Today for your phonics I would like you to start by listening and joining in with some of our phonic songs:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zKr44iBFT0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffeZXPtTGC4

I want you to use the Phase 2 sound mat and play fastest finger. Who can touch the sound that's said the quickest?

Now get out the sound cards that you cut up for Phase 2. Play snap with the sounds. Each sound has two cards. Let's see how many snaps you can get!

Use the cut up sound cards to play the game Make the word. Listen to your grown up saying some words. Can you use the sound cards and make the words? You might want to write the words once you have made them using the sound cards.

Grown ups your words to say are:

bag, sat, pan, lip, sock, dog, bat, miss, hiss, hill, red.

Today you will be looking at rhyming words. Use the videos below to help you remember what rhyming words are:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSPmGPIyykU

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVophT8naUM

Next I want you to complete the rhyming word activity in your phonic pack. Use this show me video to help you:

https://www.showme.com/sh?h=n4HniKm

I have also added on this blog a Rhyming PowerPoint quiz. Good Luck!

Any questions or you want to share your learning please email us: receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

A message from Tomasz...

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 12:12pm

Over the weekend, I got a message from Tomasz and his mum...

'Tomasz has made a card for his friends that he misses and he drew them a flower.' heartsmiley

Wellbeing challenge number 2

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 11:44am

Today's challenge is to draw your own sunshine then in the middle of it write or draw all the things that make you happy.

I've done one if you would like to look at it for ideas (although your drawings may be a little better than mine! laugh) and have focused on all the things I can still do or see, even while we're in this strange situation smiley.

Stay safe everyone,

Mrs Glover

Monday 30th Creative

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 9:26am

Good Morning Reception,

This week I want you to start making your creative model linked to one of the stories below:

The Ugly Duckling

The Odd Egg

Chicken Licken

Look at the ideas on the sheet to help you, I have attached it to this blog. Remember it doesn't have to be finished you may just paint the boxes you need to make your model, or you might paint the background of your paper.

Good Luck!

Mrs Iqbal

Monday 30th Reading

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 9:15am

Good Morning Reception!

I hope you all had a relaxing weekend and you are ready for another wonderful week of home learning with your grown ups.

Today I want you to look at the story called 'The Egg.' Miss Williams asked you to look at this story last week and you did some predicting work and listened to the story online. Today I want you to listen to the story again using the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEyD_JX5x84

Next play the game 'I can see...' Use the picture of the dragon attached to this blog and tell your grown up all the things you can see. For example, you might say...

I can see a green, big dragon.

I can see a boy flying a huge dragon.

I can see wide wings that make the dragon fly.

Then I want you to think of a sentence about the dragon and write it. I want some fantastic sentences describing the dragon. Use the show me video below to help you think about what we need to remember when writing a sentence. Grown ups if the children are writing the words in their sentence phonetically then that is great. The spellings have to be what sounds the children can hear. Do encourage them to spell the tricky words correctly by looking at the tricky word mats in your phonic packs.

Miss Cogger's phonic group you might want to draw the dragon and label it using some describing words like...

pointy teeth

sharp claws

green skin

https://www.showme.com/sh?h=FF23TuK

I can't wait to see some fantastic writing.

Love Mrs Iqbal

My Super Me Booklet - I am Grateful for...

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 8:02am

Good Morning Reception!

This past week has been very strange, it has made me think about how much is taken for granted throughout our ‘normal’ daily lives and what I am incredibly grateful for in these difficult times.

In your ‘Super Me’ booklet – there is a page that focuses on all that we are grateful for. (See page below) Can you have a real think about what you are grateful for? Can you write this down and draw a picture? I would love to see some of your ideas! :)

Week 2 Activities - Easter Maths Booklet

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 7:59am

Good Morning Reception!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are ready for a week full of learning and fun!

Today I would like you to have a go at some of the activities in your ‘Easter Maths Activity Booklet.’ I know that some of you have different booklets, so if you have ‘Easter Maths Activity Booklet,’ I would like you to complete page 1. If you have ‘Easter Maths Booklet to 20,’ I would like you to complete page 4.  (See both pages attached below.)

I have posted a ‘show me’ link to support you in completing these activities:

https://www.showme.com/sh?h=Y2YNpVA

** TRICKY CHALLENGE **

I know how speedy some of you have been throughout the past week and have already completed your maths booklets! If so, I have attached links to a ‘Spring I-spy.’ There is an option to count to 10 or 20, so choose whichever one you feel more comfortable with! You need to carefully count all of the different spring items and write the total number of each item. You can show your working out by writing the total number of each item and labelling/drawing a picture of the item.

** For an EXTRA TRICKY CHALLENGE challenge: **

Can you make a number sentence using the spring items?

How many items would you have if you added one more or taken away one less?

Have fun! Don’t forget to send pictures of your work to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk - we love to see your work!! Parents please feel free to contact for any questions/any area or learning you would like to see! :)
