Minibeast Science Lab

Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:47pm

If you would like to learn more about minibeasts, come in to class to read the information in our science lab, or look at the minibeasts climbing the grass, crawling on the ground and flying about in our Minibeast Garden.

Can you create a minibeast?

Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:41pm

Here are the resources you might want to use to create a minibeast.

Which minibeast will you make? What shape will it be? What colour is it?

This was the challenge that faced our parents and children, this morning in class. Look on our blog to see what we made.

Creating and Making Morning Job

Date: 30th Apr 2019 @ 8:49pm

Only 2 days to go until our Marvellous Minibeast Morning Job. We'd love it if you could come in to help us create minibeasts!

Super Scientists Observation Forms

Date: 30th Apr 2019 @ 8:23pm

Today we became real scientists by filling in mini-beast observation forms. We used observation skills by looking carefully at photos of minibeasts, by counting how many legs and wings and then writing about the colour of the minibeasts.

Then, at the end of the day, we shared our knowledge with each other by reading out the questions on the form and the answers we had written. As you can see we are very proud of our work!

What can we do with a box?

Date: 25th Apr 2019 @ 10:43am

Can you guess what we are making today?

We decided to create a learning area in our classroom because it wasn't how we wanted it to look. We are really interested in minibeasts so we are going to create an area that we can learn about them in. The first step is to create the kind of habitat we think they need to live in.

What do you think the box will become?

Who? Where? How?

Date: 24th Apr 2019 @ 1:11pm

This afternoonn we played a game of Who? Where? How?

First you play a sound and then you close your eyes and imagine who is making the sound, where they are and how they are making the sound.

Can you guess our sound?

Weighing and Measuring in the classroom

Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 8:51pm

Today our classroom challenges were to use our measuring skills.

We used the balance scales to find out about lighter and heavier objects, we compared the length of the 'green water snake' with our models and we created towers that were shorter or taller than Ruby Rabbit.

Lainy Ladybird loves learning

Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 8:43pm

Today Lainy brought some fun games in to class to play with. We've been creating maths games using her ladybird resources.

Mothers Day

Date: 29th Mar 2019 @ 3:46pm

heartWe have been learning all about our amazing Mums this week. Mother's Day is a chance for us to show them how special they are. heart

First we read a book called 'Superhero Mum' by Tim Knapman and that made us think about all the brilliant things our Mums do for us every day. Then we wrote about why our own Mum is a Superhero with Mrs Ganner. Finally we made a garden of flowers picture independently.

This got us thinking... How can we make a bunch of flowers for our Mum? Superhero Miss Conway came to the rescue by showing us how to use our scissor skills and fine motor folding skills to create a very real looking, opening heart flower, growing in grass. We are so creative in our class that some of us made more flowers independently too! There was even a ladybird sitting in one bunch!

We hope all of you amazing Mums out there have a restful day on Sunday. You really deserve it.

Phase 3 Phonics Song

Date: 27th Mar 2019 @ 12:27pm

We are getting really good at singing the phase 3 phonics song we use to practice linking phase 3 sounds to letters. Soon we will be singing it independently, without repeating after an adult.

Home Challenge: Can you practice the sounds with a grown up or older brother or sister? When you know the sounds, can you teach it to an adult?

Double double numbers are so sweet...

Reading Buddies

Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 10:41pm

What a lovely thing it is to share a book with a friend. Let's say the alphabet sounds... But then sometimes, it's great to sit quietly with a book and get lost in another world.

Maths Watch

When we have been playing in the classroom over the last few days, our teachers have seen us playing lots of maths games. Can you work out how to play with our maths resources?

Key Word Clues: counting, adding, subtracting

How many number blocks does it take to transform it into a rocket?

Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 10:23pm

When we play in the classroom, sometimes we are set challenges to create our own Maths games. Today the number blocks transformed themselves into a 'number rocket' that zoomed around the classroom after it was built and counted. They also became talking towers. Can you estimate how many number blocks are used? Can you count how many the children used?

World Book Day 2019

Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 10:06pm

heartWe love reading at Ravensbury heart

To celebrate World Book Day we joined the older children for a special assembly where we walked down the book character catwalk, we shared books and we designed and created our very own, one of a kind, Rainbow Reading Area.

What do you think of it? Would you like to join us to read a book?

A day full of love - February 14th, 2019

Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 8:52pm

We really felt the love on Valentine's Day by sharing hearts and making gifts for our adults.

We even learned a song to sing at the end of the day to tell our grown-ups we love them.

Crocodile Joe brings along some friends...

Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 8:38pm

The time Crocodile Joe came to school was such an unforgettable experience. Joe shared his love of animals with us by telling us about his adventures around the world and by introducing us to snakes, lizards and a tarantula called Tilly!

He's inspired us to create an animal world in our classroom as we learn more about eggs.

Real Scuba Gear

Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 8:28pm

We were amazed by what we saw in class a couple of days after our trip to the Blue Planet Aquarium. Mrs Hughes brought her husband's scuba gear in for us to look at. On the trip, we saw Luke and Mark inside the tank feeding the fish. It was really exciting and we were very interested in the breathing apparatus. Did you know the octopus is the name of the long hose?

Thank you for lertting us look at your equipment Mr Hughes yes

An amazing day out to Blue Planet Aquarium

Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 8:14pm

Our very first trip out was a huge success! We were so tired at the end of the day because it had been so busy. Can you imagine seeing sharks and eels and cayman and jellyfish and tarantulas and every type of reptile and sea life you could think of? We really could not believe our eyes smiley

Who will you be today?

Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 7:57pm

Last half term we learned about the children in the story book, On Sudden Hill. In the book there are three boys that can create anything from virtually nothing! They had so many good ideas that we decided to make our own props box. The Pirates don't look too friendly. surprise Can you guess who the King and Queen are? Oh and be careful passing those Knights, they've already killed our texture dragon...

Can you create props and bring them in to school? To listen to the story click here
