Right Angle Hunt

Date: 1st Mar 2022 @ 12:47pm

Today we began our 2D shape unit in maths. We discussed all the things we already know about 2D shapes. We could name loads of different shapes!

We spoke about the different angles in the angle family, obtuse angles, acute angles and right angles. We used our angle eaters to find different angles in the classroom and in our outside space too. Check out the pictures to see all the different right angles we could find. We found then on doors, books, benches and even the displays too!

We can't wait to continue exploring all things shape.

Olympics Experience

Date: 26th Feb 2022 @ 10:13am

What a half term we have had in year 5. We managed to pack in so much learning : fractions and lots of work with decimals in maths, the human life cycle in science, Greek myths in English and lots of lots of learning about Ancient Greece in our connected curriculum work. Every child in the class has worked incredibly hard. Let's hit Spring 2 with just as much energy!

At the end of our connected curriculum learning, we brought together all the work we'd done in order to put on a mini-Olympics. The children took part in four athletics events - the shotput, the javelin, the long jump and a relay race. Everyone did amazingly well and we discovered an athlete in our class who has been hiding in plain sight!

Well done 5CR - you've had a great half term!

Performance Poetry

Date: 18th Feb 2022 @ 11:20am

In English, we have been looking at the poem 'I was born in the Stone Age' by Michael Rosen. First, we read the poem and then we watched him perform it. We then thought about how to perform the poem ourselves. We thought carefully about using actions, pace and volume. Here are some of our performances.

Fantastic Behaviour!

Date: 18th Feb 2022 @ 9:25am

Yesterday, year 4 celebrated their amazing behaviour, by taking part in a 'Just Dance Disco!'

Everyone has worked extremely hard this half term, and it was lovely to celebrate our behaviour and determination with you.

Have a lovely break,

Miss Brookes and Miss Kenwell

Finding tens and ones...

Date: 17th Feb 2022 @ 9:25pm

This week in our maths lessons we have been doing some new learning linked to counting within 50 and recognising how many tens and ones are in 2-digit numbers. We were using diennes or sometimes they are called base 10 to support our learning. We read 2 digit numbers and used diennes to make the numbers and recognise how many tens and ones are in the 2-digit number. It was a little tricky but we persevered and began to understand how to use the diennes.

Spring 1 Round Up!

Date: 17th Feb 2022 @ 4:06pm

Hello again!

We made it to the end of term - pats on the backs all around!

Our children have been working incredibly hard this term. This week we had some visitors come to watch a writing lesson and each of the adults were incredibly impressed with how independent the children were with their writing. We had some amazing adjectives and the sentences the children produced were incredible. I am super proud! Please do come and see me if you would like to take a look at everything we have been up to this term.

Yesterday we looked at a music video and the children generated some adjectives together - see if you can test them on their adjectives!

This week we have finished making our DT projects: Puppets! They turned out great and the children had a wonderful time making them. It was difficult to sew with the materials we chose but everyone was really resilient and did a great job! I just hope all the googly eyes stayed on...

Tomorrow we will be having our final independent write of the term. After seeing the progress made in the last few weeks I have no doubt that it will be amazing. In the afternoon as a well-deserved reward for their effort this term we will be enjoying a movie afternoon and a disco!

I can't wait to see the children tomorrow and celebrate another successful term of Year 1!

Toys Drama Workshop

Date: 12th Feb 2022 @ 6:05pm

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have a visitor called Allison from the Freshwater Theatre Company. She transformed into a Toy Museum Curator and took us on a journey into her Toy Museum. We used our drama and imagination to move through this museum into four different rooms- teddy bears, moving toys, dolls and New toys. We used drama, dance and our speaking and listening skills to move our bodies like different toys, learn lots of facts about toys from the past and we invented our own toys.

It was lots of fun!!!

Scavenger Hunt

Date: 12th Feb 2022 @ 5:45pm

This week we continued to read our story called 'Lost in the Toy Museum.' In this book a toy cat called Bunting was the leader of some toys in a museum. However, one night the toys decided to run away and play hide and seek. In our writing this week we were going to help Bunting and write some clues to help him look for the toys in the museum. To get us started with this piece of writing, on Monday we did our very own hunt in the classroom by reading some clues and finding objects that matched these clues. It was lots of fun and we did some great partner work.

Lost in the Toy Museum!

Date: 12th Feb 2022 @ 10:56am

Hello again everyone!

I hope you have all had a great week. It has been wonderful to meet with some of you and show off some of the brilliant writing the children have been producing! If anyone else would like to meet with me after school please come and see me. I am always keen to share the amazing things the children have been doing in class.

This week we started off with a drama workshop! The children took part in a range of activities while they explored a Toy Museum. They acted out what it would be like to be different toys from different points in history. The children also explored how toys have changed throughout history with a focus on everyone's favourite: the Teddy Bear! Ask the children if they can remember a fact about the first ever teddy. I wonder if they can remmeber which US President it was named after... At the end of the workshop the children had to invent a brand new toy that has never been seen before. We then drew our designs up in class and wrote about what made our toy so special.

One of our challenges this week has been to draw a picture of Goldilocks, have a look at our FANTASTIC work!

Capacity in Maths

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 4:15pm

In maths today, we were measuring capacity using a variety of measuring jugs and cylinders. We used skills such as estimating, accurate measuring and reasoning. It was great fun and really helped us when we came to complete our independent work of converting millilitres to litres and litres to millilitres and solving word problems involving capacity.

6 Aliens in a spaceship

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 3:50pm

We have had a busy maths week in Reception this week. Our classes have been working really learning how we can make different numbers. We started with 5 and thought about all the different ways we can make 5 by using our 5 speckled frogs song. Then we pushed our learning even further and thought about how we could fit 6 aliens onto our spaceships if they only had 5 seats!

Good work Reception!

Maths Learning

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 3:20pm

This week in maths we have been working with decimals. We used our knowledge of placing decimals on a number line to look at different measures of potion ingredients and ordered them from smallest to largest.

Have a go at this game at home to practise your new skills!

Art-Cherry Blossom

Date: 10th Feb 2022 @ 4:24pm

Today we have been drawing Cherry Blossom in our art sketch books. Our inspiration came from our reading book 'Kensuke's Kingdom'.  The character Kensuke painted a Cherry Blossom tree on a shell he found on the beach. The children really enjoyed creating their pictures and produced some lovely work.

Children's Mental Health Week

Date: 10th Feb 2022 @ 2:55pm

To celebrate children's mental health week, 4CB completed a mindful observation challenge.

We went outside, and thought about the sounds we could hear, what we could see, and what shapes we could find in the clouds.

It was very relaxing!

Threshold Challenge!

Date: 9th Feb 2022 @ 5:24pm

Before we could even get into our EAL room today, we had to do a Threshold Challenge! We had to walk along the path of base verbs and say each one in the simple past. The path started outside the room and wound its way all the way to our table.

Luckily, everyone knew their past tense verbs. Well done!
