Garden Stew in Year 2!

Date: 6th Oct 2022 @ 4:41pm

This week we have made a 'garden stew' - just like the one in our story!

It really helped us understand instructional writing and how to use time connectives such as first, next, then and finally! We had a great time collecting all of the ingredients and mixing it all together :)

Monkey likes patterns and so do we

Date: 6th Oct 2022 @ 1:39pm

This afternoon we received a message from Monkey. It was written on a speech bubble. She set us a challenge. She wanted us to put patterns on monkey sized vests for her. What a funny thing to ask!

We chose our favourite pattern and drew them on the vests she sent. Can you spot the patterns that we drew? (curly, spotty, zig-zag,checked, stripy).

We've given the vests back to Monkey so she can choose one to wear tomorrow.

Marvellous Muscles

Date: 6th Oct 2022 @ 11:13am

In science this week we have been finding out what happens to our bicep and tricep, when we move our arm. We made our own moving arm to see what happened to our muscles.

What is a sentence ?

Date: 6th Oct 2022 @ 9:48am

This week , we have been working hard on using sentences in our writing. We  looked at sentences and found we needed a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end. We used our reading to help us decide when to use the full stop in our own writing.

Off to Ghyllhead!

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 10:51pm

Year 6 are headed off for our much anticipated trip to Ghyllhead the outdoor education centre in Lake Windermere. We are so excited and can't wait for all the adventures we will have there. Have a look at the clip below to get a flavour of some of the activites and adevntures we will be enjoying while we are there! Byeee!

Egg-cellent Experiments!

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 11:59am

Over the past week, year 4 have carried out a very interesting science experiment - all about tooth decay. As the surface of an egg shell is very similiar to the enamel on teeth, they chose four different liquids to submerge the eggs into.

We then observed the egg shells over a week, and studied what happened to the surface of each of them.

By Wednesday, the jugs were very smelly!

Friction investigation

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 11:56am

As we continue to learn about forces, 5CR investigated the effect friction can have on the soles of shoes. Using force meters, we measured the amount of newtons it took to move a shoe across five different surfaces: grass, concrete, table, lino and carpet. Everyone worked very systematically and showed a great understanding of how we were making it a fair test!

Place value counters

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 11:51am

Last week, the children in year 5 were learning how to use place value counters for addition and subtraction. Some of the children didn't understand why the needed to use this method at first as they could do it quicker with written methods. It quickly became clear, however, that many didn't actually know what it meant to carry to the next column.

By the end of the week, everyone had a much better understanding of what addition and subtraction is!

We Love Wiggling!

Date: 2nd Oct 2022 @ 3:37pm

We have been learning all about the things our bodies can do. We really are magical and we have enjoyed finding out about what our eyes, hands, ears, eyes and noses can do by reading ‘Happy To Be Me’. If you don’t that story click here.

We discovered that we were great at wiggling. First we wiggled our toes to a simple song. We wiggled fast and slow. Then we danced along to The Wiggle Dance with Danny Go. Why not have a wiggle too?

Super Scientists!

Date: 1st Oct 2022 @ 2:41pm

This half-term, we are exploring all things related to teeth, in our science lessons.

We have now begun our own teeth experiment - where we are using egg shells, to test the affect different liquids have on teeth. We set up the experiment on Wednesday, and will take photos of the egg shells each day that we are in school. We've also made predictions about the egg shells - I wonder if any of us predicted correctly!

Sorting fruit n veg using our senses!

Date: 1st Oct 2022 @ 8:31am

We have had lots of fun in science today! First we explored different types of fruit and veg using our senses! Some fruits and veg we had never even seen before such as aubergines, garlic, pomegranate and aparagus! We found that some fruits and veg felt spiky whilst others felt smooth! Some fruit and veg smelt very sweet whilst others had not much scent at all! After we had explored the fruits and veg using our senses, in groups, we sorted the fruit and veg into categories using the describing words that we had generated.

4LJ Blog 4

Date: 30th Sep 2022 @ 2:06pm

What another exciting week in year 4. The weather today is not fantastic, so we must remember our coats!

During our swimming lesson, lots of us no longer needed the noodles to support us, and at first this was quite scary, but we succeeded - we even jumped in to the pool! We've spent time this week sharing who we believes which members of the class deserve to be on outstanding at the end of each and every day, this is so that we all have an opinion that we know what outstanding behaviour looks like in year 4. Our CC focussed on the different Maya gods, of which there were hundreds! Writing this week focussed on using coordinating conjunctions to extend our sentences in our non-chronological reports, as we have finished writing our Maya myths!

We also explored when and how to use apostrophes to mark possession.  We have begun and observation over time to see the effects of sugar on teeth by using egg shells in a range of liquids. Next week, we start addition and subtraction in maths and will be writing our non-chronological reports!

Sports day 2022!

Date: 30th Sep 2022 @ 1:16pm

Here are a few pictures from our sports day event this morning. The children had a fantastic time completing all of the challenges and I was very proud of their behaviour and teamwork through out. Well done 2GS!

Ready Steady Mo!

Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 9:17pm

We have loved reading and acting out the story 'Ready Steady Mo' for the past couple of weeks. This week we have been writing labels for our pictures of Mo using our newly learned vocabulary - run, sprint, dash and jog. We have also written captions for our own pictures and have spoken about what we can do. We have been so proud of the children and so impressed by their amazing writing and talking! Well done reception!

All about 2

Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 9:10pm

In maths this week we have been exploring the number 2. We have been finding lots of different ways to represent the number 2 and now the children are becoming more confident in talking about how the number 2 is made - 1 and another 1 makes 2 altogether.

The children enjoyed practicing their maths skills in the classroom, they made pictures and pizzas for 2 and even houses as well! We'll done Reception !

Class Visitors!

Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 4:50pm

This week Year 2 have been so lucky! We had TWO visitors in our classes to talk to us about our new topic "Why can't we just eat chocolate?".

Our first visitor came on Tuesday and she is a dental hygienist. We learned about how to look after our teeth and how we can keep them in tip top condition! On Wednesday we had a martial arts expert in to talk to us about healthy eating and exercise. We learned so much and we generated some amazing questions to ask the visitors.

Sketchpad

Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 1:25pm

This week in ICT we were practising our mouse skills using the chrome books and website 'Sketchpad.' We learned how to change the background colour and insert a picture from a library of images. It was lots of fun!!!

Here is the website if you would like to have a go at home...

Art with Mrs McAffer

Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 1:19pm

This week we had the opportunity to start our art journey with Mrs McAffer. We will work with Mrs McAffer over the year on different projects. On Tuesday we looked at how to use painting techniques to create a background for our artwork that we will complete next week. We used brightly coloured paint to make marks using spatulas and then used brush techniques to paint across the paper.

Check back next week to see our finished artwork!

Egyptian Visitor

Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 11:11am

Last week we had an exciting visitor come into school. They came and shared lots of information all about Ancient Egypt. We enjoyed taking part in a crack the code written in hieroglyphics, a game of hounds and jackals, measuring like Ancient Egyptians and reneacting a mummification.  At the end of the day, we even dressed up as mummies.

What have we been up to?

Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 10:31am

Hi all!

I hope you have all been enjoying the first few days of Autumn! The days are feeling much crisper now and big coat season will soon be upon us...

The children have been really busy in class developing their writing and maths skills.

This week we have been writing drafts of our story: "The Egyptian Cinderella". I am hugely impressed with the quality of the children's work so far and can't wait to read the stories once they have been finished next week! We have been working on using speech in our text and they have been fantastic at using the steps to success to show off this skill.

In Maths, we have continued to work with our place value skills, this time counting in 4s and 8s. The children have done this by working together on a variety of activities together - team work makes the dream work! Next week we will be starting to work on our addition skills.

In Science we are continuing to look at our bodies and how they work. This week our focus has been muscules. The children have even had a go at making their own muscles to demonstrate how they work.

We have lots of exciting things coming up, if you have any questions please speak to me at the end of the day when you collect the children.

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Higgins :)

Gone fishing!

Date: 28th Sep 2022 @ 3:41pm

In Reception, we have practised our new language by going fishing! We had to listen to the word, find the picture , fish for it and then say the word!

What are we learning about in Autumn 1?

Date: 28th Sep 2022 @ 2:18pm

Here is a breakdown of the learning we are doing in year 6 in this first half term. The children have been working really hard so far this year and are all very much looking forward to our trip to Ghyll Head.

One more and one less!

Date: 27th Sep 2022 @ 4:22am

This week in maths, we have been finding one more and one less than any given number up to 20 and beyond! We have had lots of fun using the maths equipment to find one more and one less! We also challeneged ourselves to write large number tracks on strips of paper using our skills of finding one more and one less!
