Today, KS2 took part in a brilliant sports day. Thankfully, the weather was on our side, and all of the children did an amazing job at winning points for their houses.
Year 4 took part in 4 different games, and they showed great enthusiasm and effort throughout the activities.
Well done year 4!

Well, the weather gods were very kind to us for our sports day today! We had a fabulous time. There were four stations where children worked in their house teams to complete a variety of tasks including javelin, relay and throwing and catching. Its been a very busy week but great fun!

We love to draw and paint in Nursery. We've been talking about our families this week and lots of children have been independently choosing to draw pictures of the people they love.
Our 'celebrate' curtain is nearly full!

In English, we have been reading the story of The Egyptian Cinderella. This week we are focusing on speech. The children wrote their own speech bubbles for different characters in the text. They then used their speech bubbles in the freeze frames they created to retell the story.

In our dance lessons we have been working really hard on using our bodies to show different emotions!
Last week each group worked on a different emotion and pracitised travelling with that emotion, such as walking sadly. This week we have been looking at making a sequence using contrasting emotions. We did a happy movement then went straight into a sad movement - we're showing feelings with our bodies so well!

We have been drawing our faces. We watched and listened to our teachers and then drew our faces. We think you'll agree, there are some budding artists in Nursery this year!

This week, year 4 got to experience their first swimming lesson!
Even though some children were feeling anxious about entering the water, they all did an amazing job and 'had a go.' Most children have shared their enjoyment of learning how to 'float like a star' in the pool.
We can't wait to see what they learn next week.

Reception have had a busy week this week moving like Mo Farah!
We watched a video and saw Mo racing on the track, he was very fast, and then we read our new story 'Ready Steady Mo'! We thought about how Mo was moving and came up with lots of amazing words to describe it, including 'sprint', 'jog', 'dash' and 'race'.
We then practiced moving like Mo in our playground and did an amazing job of showing off our skills! We made our very own medals in the classroom and wore them with pride!
If you want to read our story at home you can find it on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwYROLGGsSo
Keep moving Reception!
Scientific Enquiry - do children who have larger hands also have larger feet?
Date: 19th Sep 2022 @ 4:09pm
Last week in Science we began to think about our scientific enquiry skills. We learned what these skills were and started to think about seeking patterns. Our enquiry question was 'Do children with larger hands have larger feet?' We discussed what we needed to do and how we were going to do the investigation. We used ant team work to measure around each others hands and feet then worked together to measure them using cubes. We discovered that not all children who had larger hands also had larger feet!

Last week in Year 1 we started our learning in computing. We learned what logging in details included and discussed what different types of things are included in computing. We looked in detail at a chrome book and used our logging in details to log on for the very first time! Some of us used our learning powere of Roger the resilient rhino beetle to persevere even when there were errors in typing the details. Well done Year 1!!!

Two weeks down, five to go...
And what a week it has been! Not only have we celebrated our first class birthday of the year, we have well and truly got stuck into our learning.
This week the children have been working on verbs, adverbs and adverbials in writing lessons. They have been writing 2a sentences and worked on describing the ways in which different characters move in the story. They even used their innovation skills to add new character and animals to the story too! I have been really impressed with the level of writing so jfar and look forward to seeing even more creative ideas from the children soon.
In Maths, we have continued to look at the value of three digit numbers. This week we ordered and compared three digit numbers. Children continued to use concrete or pictorial resources that they have found useful to decide which numbers had a greater or lesser value. They are all becomming confident helping themselves to resources that work best for them!
In Science, we have continued to explore skeletons - in particular our own! Children have had a go at building a skeleton and then naming the bones. The next day they labelled one another's skeletons with the names of the bones. The children really enjoyed this activity and especially enjoyed the extra house point they all recieved from Mrs Thewlis for their hard work!
In CC children explored the timeline of Ancient Egypt. They worked together to order key events in the Egyptian timeline. The children are working hard on the team work skills which is fantatsic to see!
Next week we have some special visitors coming in to do a workshop with the children all about Ancient Egypt (Tuesday). Then we will be having our first sports day since Covid to end the week (Friday morning). Lots of exciting things to look forward to!
Have a great weekend and see you all on Tuesday morning!

Here we are already! The end of week 2.
What a fantastic we had during our swimming lesson, the children were all so brave! We learned how to float like a star in the pool. The water was cold at first but we soon got used to it. We learned to kick our legs in the pool whilst holding on to the wall.
In our Spanish lessons, we played a Spanish version of Simon say, where we had to listen to and follow instructions. Sentaos means sit down.
As part of our CC, we looked at important dates in Maya history and created a timeline.
We began writing our own version of the Maya myth (Hero Twins).
In science, we explored what a herbivore, carnivore and omnivore is and why their teeth can be different.
Maths this week focussed on larger numbers up to 10,000, comparing and partitioning them.
We learned how to use a search engine carefully and what a search engine is!
Next week, there is no school on Monday because of the Queen's funeral. Next Wednesday we have our second swimming lesson , (please arrived at 9am sharp). Next Friday is our sports day (Friday at 9.10am). Please come and watch us between 9.10am and 10.10am.
Have a great long weekend!

This week in the connected curriculum, we created our own human timeline. We explored some of the key events that happened in the Egyptian era. We learnt when the first pyramids were built and when Tutankhamun reigned over Egypt. Then we put the events in chronological order.

Yesterday the children had to squash themselves under the tables and pretent we were having an air raid drill. They thought it was very exciting and enjoyed chatting with their friends and making up games to keep themselves occupied. I'm sure if they had to stay there all night, like they had to during World War 2, then they would soon get very fed up and bored.
Date: 14th Sep 2022 @ 11:33am
This week we launched our new topic about life during The Second World War. We started with a dance, where the children all had to learn an old fashioned dance called the 'Lindy Hop'. They did very well and had a chance to practise. As you can see from the photographs below, they all had a great time.

This week we welcomed our grown ups into Reception. It was great getting to know some of you and the children loved showing you all our classrooms. For anyone who couldn't make it we have sent a copy of the information home and have attached it to this blog post. If anyone has any questions the reception team will be happy to talk to you at the end of the day.

This week we have been practicing using our fast eyes to subitise. We have been looking at representations of numbers up to 3 and have practicing saying them quickly without counting (challenge us at home, we're very quick!). We now know that there are lots and lots of ways that you can represent a number- it may look different but it is the same number!

We have had a fantastic week back in 1HB! We have shared our holiday news and it has been wonderful listening to what everyone has been doing in the holidays! We have settled back into school well and have been getting used to the new routines in year 1. We had a fabulous day on Friday when we launched our new topic "What makes me incredible?" We all dressed up as our favourite superhero, created superhero masks and danced to superhero music!

Hello parents,
Welcome to your new class blog for 2GS. We have had a fantastic first week back at school and really enjoyed getting to know each other. We all look super smart and ready to learn. Last Friday was the launch day for our new topic, "Why Can't We Just Eat Chocolate?" We had a scavanger hunt in the playground and designed our own fruit kebabs. This week, we will be doing some art using vegetables.
It was lovely to meet some of our parents and carers today at our class Meet and Greet. If you weren't able to come along, feel free to get in touch with any questions. Your child should have brought home information about Year 2 and our learning.
Please can you remind children to bring in their reading book bag every day and to wear their PE kit on Wednesdays and Thursdays (no jewellry please).

Some of the things we have enjoyed are -
- outdoor learning
- colouring
- jigsaw
- P.E.
- maths
- mastery in number
- reading about Elton John
- reading Whiffy Wilson in English
We have been practising lining up sensibly and working together as a team. We are doing super well!

We have had a great time doing lots of fun learning and playing in our new classrooms, especially investigating capacity, exploring new stories, and telling our friends all about us!
We're all very excited for the amazing year ahead - keep checking on the Reception pages for updates on our learning throughout the year!
