Creating New Stories

Date: 18th Oct 2022 @ 2:47pm

We have been learning about a fabulous story called ‘Monkey and ME’. In this story a little girl and her monkey visit lots of different animals. As part of our learning we drew a story map to help us retell it. Then we decided to change the story. We changed the monkey and all of the other animals then retold the beginning and middle today. Tomorrow we are going to change the end so the characters don’t go home after their busy day. Where could they go?

Look out for the ending and our whole story retell tomorrow!

Edit: Here it is! One of our alternative versions

Celebrate Me Day!

Date: 16th Oct 2022 @ 7:38am

Last Wednesday was Celebrate Me Day. We came to school dressed in clothes that represented us or something that we wanted to become when we were older. The day started with an assembly where some visitors came into school and told us about their journey in life. In class we listened to the story 'It's OK to be different' and started to think about how we are all different but fit nicley together in our class. Here is the link to the story:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yqr7Eniiajk

We created some thought bubbles showing things that represented us. We also discussed the word 'aspirations' and talked about what we wanted to be when we were older. We hope you enjoy our aspiration video!

Supertato!

Date: 15th Oct 2022 @ 7:45am

This week our class story is SUPERTATO! We have read the story together and then worked in groups to sequence the events of the story. We also created our own Supertatos and then wrote speechmarks to show what he might be saying during different events of the story. We also used stick puppets to role-play other characters in the story and wrote speech bubbles for what they might say. Next week we will be writing our own Supertato comic strip so we are now feeling confident about what to write in the speech bubbles now!

This half-term the EYFS have been looking at our Learning Power 'Care'.

When I care I...

work hard

make good choices

am responsible

We have made our own 'care for me bee' and shared the ways that we are kind in Nursery and Reception. We then put all of our hard work together on our new display!

'Celebrate Me!' Day

Date: 14th Oct 2022 @ 4:27pm

This week we have celebrated everything that makes us unique in Nursery! We came to school in clothes that were important to us and represented who we are. We shared the story 'The Same but Different Too' by Karl Newson, you can find it read online if you follow the link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9DB7IRNT6w

We looked at our wonderful outfits and thought carefully about what was the same, and what was not the same. Have a look through the pictures below and see if you can say whether we are dressed the same, or not the same!

Air resistance experiment

Date: 14th Oct 2022 @ 4:23pm

We completed another experiment this week to investigate the effect of air resistance and how it is used by sycamore trees to disperse their seeds. The class made paper helicopters and used paperclips to gradually make it heavier. They found that as the helicopters got heavier, they feel faster. I was so impressed with their teamwork skills with one child timing and one dropping - they worked together beautifully!

Celebrate Me Day!

Date: 14th Oct 2022 @ 3:55pm

On Wednesday this week, Ravensbury held its first Celebrate Me Day! It was lovely to hear about the things that make the children feel like they are individuals and seeing them dressed up in something that represents them. We had a special assembly when we welcomed some guests who used to attend the school and are now high fliers - as we believe all our pupils can be! Below are some pictures of an activity we completed during the day. Each child had three children to decorate. The first was supposed to represent them with a sentence underneath to tell us something about them.

Thank you to those parents who were able to pop into school. It was wonderful to see the children so excited to share their learning with everyone.

Celebrate me day!

Date: 14th Oct 2022 @ 8:10am

What a fantastic day we had celebrating us!

The children came in wearing clothes which celebrated their culture, religion, heritage as well as things which represented them (favourite colour, their aspiration). Rumour has it there was a Manchester Bee floating around in 4CB...

We visited an assembly where we had visitors who used to attend our school, celebrating all that they have achieved since moving on from Ravensbury. It was fantastic to see so many members of our schoool community.

In the afternoon, Year 4 spent time reflecting on what makes them who they are today. This was reflected in some fantastic artwork that they created. This artwork will be displayed outside of our classrooms and will remind us every day how important it is to be individuals, and to celebrate who we are!

It was fantastic to see so many parents come and join us and celebrate our school community. Thank you parents.

We'll show the finished product soon!

Celebrate Me

Date: 13th Oct 2022 @ 6:10pm

We had a wonderful day celebrating 'Celebrate Me' day!

We came into school dressed in something that represented us, and had a great time telling our friends all about our clothes and the things that make us special! During the day we thought lots about what made us great, including what we liked to celebrate, what colours we liked, what activities we liked to do, and what made us amazing, and we read stories all about how amazing it is to be unique.

We thought about why we were proud to be us and shared our 'proud to be me' sentences with our friends, then we made a proud bee to match!

In the afternoon we had the opportunity to share our special story 'Incredible You' and our song 'good to be me' with some of our grown ups. Below are links to our story and song if you would like to share them at home! :)

Let's Celebrate Me !

Date: 12th Oct 2022 @ 3:43pm

We have had a fantastic day celebrating us across the school today ! We have worn clothes that represent us and taken time to reflect on what we identify with and what makes us special and unique. Take a look at some of our pictures.

Let's Celebrate Me Day

Date: 12th Oct 2022 @ 2:06pm

Today we celebrated Let's Celebrate Me Day. We came to school dressed as something that represented us. We dressed in our favourite colours, clothes that represent us and our ambitions.

During the day, we read the book Dot. We then used watercolours to create our own dots, which represent us. Here are some of our outfits and art work from the day.

Quarry Bank Mill

Date: 12th Oct 2022 @ 10:11am

In Year 5, we have been learning about the Victorians. To find out more about what life was like for children working in the factories in Victorian times, we went on a visit to Quarry Bank Mill which was a cotton factory. We found out about numerous injuries children suffered from after working with heavy machinery and the long hours they had to work. We decided that we are very lucky to go to school instead!

Art with Mrs McAffer Part 2!

Date: 9th Oct 2022 @ 10:02am

Last week we finished our art project with Mrs McAffer. We used Autumn template shapes such as squirrels, trees, and leaves to draw around. We then filled each template with paint on our colourful background that we did last week. Look at the concentration on some of the faces!!!!

We will work with Mrs McAffer again in the Spring term for our third topic all about toys past and new!

Weekly round up

Date: 7th Oct 2022 @ 5:30pm

Hello all,

We've had a super week of learning in Year 2 this week! We have completed our English topic, How to Make Garden Stew, where we learnt all the writing skills we need to write instructions. We even got to follow our instructions yesterday when we went outside to collect the ingrediant and make our very own garden stew! We loved mixing all the mucky, sloppy mud, leaves, grass and sticks together!

In PE  we have been learning all about throwing, catching and kicking a ball towards a target. In CC, we are continuing to learn about keeping ourselves fit and healthy. Finally, in maths, we have been getting to grips with number knowledge, in preparation for our new unit after half term (addition and subtraction).

Next Wednesday, is 'All About Me' day, and we are invited to come into school dressed in something that is important to us. Mrs Merton is going to come in dressed in her summer dress and sunglasses because she loves the sun! As 'All About Me' day is on Wednesday, we do not need to where our PE kits on that day.

Have a lovely weekend!

3JH meet Sid the Skeleton!

Date: 7th Oct 2022 @ 3:59pm

Hello Grown Ups!

On Thursday Year 3 had an exciting visitor. His name was Louis and he was training to be a physiotherapist. He brought his friends Sid in to visit us, then we asked Louis scientific questions all about our bodies!

LCV2.jpg LCV3.jpg

After Louis left we followed up with some creative activities all about our bones and muscles! We had a great time and enjoyed finding out new information based on the questions we asked.

Garden Stew in Year 2!

Date: 6th Oct 2022 @ 4:41pm

This week we have made a 'garden stew' - just like the one in our story!

It really helped us understand instructional writing and how to use time connectives such as first, next, then and finally! We had a great time collecting all of the ingredients and mixing it all together :)

Monkey likes patterns and so do we

Date: 6th Oct 2022 @ 1:39pm

This afternoon we received a message from Monkey. It was written on a speech bubble. She set us a challenge. She wanted us to put patterns on monkey sized vests for her. What a funny thing to ask!

We chose our favourite pattern and drew them on the vests she sent. Can you spot the patterns that we drew? (curly, spotty, zig-zag,checked, stripy).

We've given the vests back to Monkey so she can choose one to wear tomorrow.

Marvellous Muscles

Date: 6th Oct 2022 @ 11:13am

In science this week we have been finding out what happens to our bicep and tricep, when we move our arm. We made our own moving arm to see what happened to our muscles.

What is a sentence ?

Date: 6th Oct 2022 @ 9:48am

This week , we have been working hard on using sentences in our writing. We  looked at sentences and found we needed a capital letter at the beginning and a full stop at the end. We used our reading to help us decide when to use the full stop in our own writing.

Off to Ghyllhead!

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 10:51pm

Year 6 are headed off for our much anticipated trip to Ghyllhead the outdoor education centre in Lake Windermere. We are so excited and can't wait for all the adventures we will have there. Have a look at the clip below to get a flavour of some of the activites and adevntures we will be enjoying while we are there! Byeee!

Egg-cellent Experiments!

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 11:59am

Over the past week, year 4 have carried out a very interesting science experiment - all about tooth decay. As the surface of an egg shell is very similiar to the enamel on teeth, they chose four different liquids to submerge the eggs into.

We then observed the egg shells over a week, and studied what happened to the surface of each of them.

By Wednesday, the jugs were very smelly!

Friction investigation

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 11:56am

As we continue to learn about forces, 5CR investigated the effect friction can have on the soles of shoes. Using force meters, we measured the amount of newtons it took to move a shoe across five different surfaces: grass, concrete, table, lino and carpet. Everyone worked very systematically and showed a great understanding of how we were making it a fair test!
