Learning in 5JB

Date: 8th Oct 2023 @ 7:02pm

The children have been very busy with their learning so far this year! Here are some of our highlights so far this term!

  • Quarry Bank Mill:  Year 5 had a wonderful time on our trip to Quarry Bank Mill. The children loved learning about how the mill was used in Victorian times and finding our about the lives of the children who worked there. They visited the Victorian school house and living quarters, tried some of the different jobs and saw the noisy machinery in action!
  • In Maths we have been learning about Place Value, including with decimal numbers.
  • In Reading the children really enjoyed our text study of Oliver Twist, especially finding out about the different charcters! They used their understanding of the text to create some wonderful character descriptions in their Writing Books!
  • We are continuing to discover more about the Victorians in our Connected Curriculum lessons, and have enjoyed finding out and creating a timeline of the main events of the Victorian era.
  • In Science, we are continuing our work on Forces. The class really enjoyed discussing, predicting and exploring the effect of gravity on different objects!
  • We have had a visitor in school to discuss Online Safety.
  • Finally, everyone has worked very hard on practicing their handwriting and presentation in their new Year 5 books.

This week, we look forawrd to some exciting additional sessions including Art, Black History Month workshops and Freestyle Football... it will be another busy and exciting week in Year 5!
