Categorizing Materials!

Date: 19th Nov 2022 @ 8:17pm

We have been exploring objects around us and identifying the materials that they are made from during our science lesson this week! We sorted a bag of objects into groups of materials and compared the similarities and differences. We also looked at photos of objects and sorted them. We had a materials hunt around the classroom and drew pictures of objects according to their materials. We found out that the most popular material used is wood and plastic. We were uncertain why this is and are keen to investigate more next week!

Weekly round up

Date: 18th Nov 2022 @ 6:42pm

Hello from Year 2,

What a fantastic week we have had!

As part of maths week, we have been practicing our timetables using TimesTable Rockstars on the IPads. We each have our own log in to use at home too, so don't forget to check the front of your homework book for details. To access, just search TTRS in Google, click Log In, School Pupils and enter the school post code (M11) to select Ravensbury. The best way to play is to select 'Jammin' and then scroll down to select the 2x, 5x and 10x tables. If you have any problems accessing it, please let your teacher know.

We have completed our English topic; a Recount of the visit from the Freestyle Footballer. Today, we wrote our final piece and really showed off all the different writing skills we have been learning!

Today we have been celebrating Children in Need by making our own Pudsey book marks.

See you next week for more updates from Year 2!

Children in Need

Date: 18th Nov 2022 @ 3:40pm

Today we celebrated Children's in Need in Reception.

We did lots of fun pudsey themed activities, making masks and split pin pudsey bears. We also watched some stories all about Pudsey's adventures, thinking about 'togetherness', and did some fun Pudsey dances!

Children in Need

Date: 18th Nov 2022 @ 12:59pm

As part of our Children in Need celebrations today, Year 4 joined in with BBC's 'Mood Booster.'

We joined a live video, where we were able to watch and participate in some different excerises and dance moves. This definitely helped boost our moods, and ready our brains for some more learning!

Super science

Date: 18th Nov 2022 @ 11:28am

For this week's science, we have been creating food chains. We looked at producers, consumers, prey and predators. We learnt that most food chains begin with a plant, which takes it energy from the Sun in a process called photosynthesis. We also learnt the animal which is at the end of the food chain (and is not eaten by anything else) is the predator. We learnt that prey can sometimes be a primary consumer, but a predator is the secondary consumer. This links with what we will be learning next week, which is all about food webs.

This has all been a part of our science unit on animals including humans and focussing on the digestive system.

Take a look at a some of the food chains that we made below...4LJ science.PNG

Year 3 - Adventures in Art

Date: 17th Nov 2022 @ 10:52am

This week Year 3 had a wonderful time exploring colour, shape and line in their Art lesson. They studied the work of Irene Guerriero, a South American artist who used the rainforest as her inspiration. She is famous for creating huge pieces of work  and so that is what the children set about doing. They started by collecting some inspiration in their sketch books. Once they had practiced drawing the shapes of different leaves the children had a go at colour mixing to create different shades of green. They then all collaborated on one large sheet to create a mural. We can't wait to finish it next week and see it displayed outside the hall in the next few weeks.

We found out that the 4 countries are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and we found out what their flags looked like. We even found out about the countries' symbols and national flowers too! We used our new found knowledge to design flags for the countries using the flag colours, flowers and symbols.

Grouping Materials

Date: 13th Nov 2022 @ 9:01am

In science our topic is all about Everyday Materials where we will be naming and understanding the properties of materials. When the three little pigs were moving to the brick house they left lots objects behind in the straw and stick houses. It was our job to look at these objects and group them depending on which material they were built out of. We felt the objects, looked at them closely and discussed with our groups to find out how to group the objects. Then we wrote some labels for each group.

Weekly round up

Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 4:27pm

Hello all,

We have had another busy week in Year 2 this week. In maths, we are making progress with multiplying by 2, 5 and 10 and have just started beginning to divide by 2 and 5. In English we have been writing a recount all about the amazing visit we had last week, from the Freestyle Footballer. Some of us have even been practising the tricks at home. We also began our new science topic about materials. Finally, we have begun learning all about the Great Fire of London, when it took place and how it started.

Have a lovely weekend!

Class 2GS.

Short Division

Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 3:48pm

This week, year 5 have been learning about written methods of multiplication and division.

They found the division in particular really tricky. Their homework this week should support them in being able to practise the skill at home. However, they may need some support from adults or older children. Please feel free to talk them through each question. There is no expectation that children complete the homework entirely on their own.

BBC bitesize has an excellent explanation and some practise questions to try. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/znmtsbk/articles/zqpddp3?scrlybrkr=79556a3a

Keep trying year 5!

Week 2

Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 3:26pm

What a week!

We have made so much progress in our swimming this week and even learned how to use back stroke and how to use 'frogs legs' to move in the water!

We have been using arrays to multiply and divide in maths this week, and applying our knowledge to answer depth 3 challenges - some have been tricky!

Because we will be visiting a church in the next few weeks we explored what happens in a church and also looked at the wesbite of St Cross church.

We did a lesson with Will from CCO this week and explored the playground using our orienteering and map skills.

We have been reading our class text this week and have reached chapter 9 in the text and are excited to see what happens to the characters next now that the earthquake has happened!

Check back next week for some pictures!

Remembrance Day

Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 2:48pm

Today we have been learning all about Rembrance day.

We have been making poppies and poppy field pictures to help us remember all of the people and soldiers who look after us and keep us safe.

At 11oclock we were very respectful and sat for 1 minute to remember all of the soldiers.

Food from the Amazon Rainforest

Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 1:30pm

This half term our topic is 'What is it like in the Amazon Basin?' For our launch, we tried different foods that would be available in the Amazon Rainforest. We tried lots of new food and drink. Not many of us were a fan of the coconut millk but the persimmon fruit was a firm favourite.

Challenge Friday

Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 1:04pm

Today we had a super fun Challenge Friday! We had 4 fun challenges to complete and worked hard to consolidate our learning with our independent tasks!

Our challenges were:

Writing our amazing sentences about 'Stanley's Stick' using our sentence stem 'it is a...'. We had some brilliant ideas and drew some amazing pictures to match!

Having a picnic with the 3 bears and making sure they all had the same amount of food so that it was fair. We used our special word 'equal'!

Creating amazing natural pictures in our transient art area, and using our phonics knowledge to independently make labels to match.

Exploring 'Remembrance Day' by making beautiful poppies and poppy fields. We also watched videos to learn more about why we have Remembrance Day, and did our 1 minute silence for the soliders.

We have had a great Friday in Reception! :)
