Biscuit Building!

For our Connected Curriculum launch, we made Stone Age houses out of biscuits and icing sugar. It was lots of fun but also really tricky which made us admire how much hard work it must have taken to build houses back then without the bricks and materials we use today. 

Researching Indian charities

Our topic this term is India. During our RE lessons, we have been learning about Hinduism, Mahatma Gandhi and duties that Hindu's follow. We researched 3 Indian charities which support the 'Working for Justice' duty and made posters to promote them. 

 

Santa Bus!

We were so lucky this morning to be visited by Santa and his special elf helper! We sang songs and all got a present! How exciting.

 

Magnet Mania!

Yesterday, we tested the strength of different magnets and saw how strong they were! We then did two experiments: 

1:How many paper clips the magnet could hold flat,

2:How many paper clips the magnet could hold dangling in a line. 

Some were stronger than others. We had great fun testing this out!

The Mighty Battle!

We reenacted the battle from the story of Rama and Sita and became demons and monkey warriors!! 

 

Anti-bullying Workshop

This morning, we participated in an anti-bullying workshop. We did roleplay and spoke about different types of bullying. We had lots of fun and acted out situations. 

Egyptian Visitor

Yesterday, Year 3 were greeted by an Egyptian visitor who told us some fun and interesting things about Ancient Egypt. We had a go at some Egyptian games as well as taking part in a fact hunting quiz! We even got to see the mummification process! If that wasn't enough, at the end of the day we competed in our very own Ravensbury Charriot racing! What a brilliant day!

Egyptian Neck Collars

In groups, we created Egyptian Neck Collars in Art as we were looking specifically at patterns and Egyptian designs. We had so much fun!

This half term we have been learning about plants and what they need to grow well. For our launch, we planted Cress seeds.

Our Roman Visitors!

For our Roman experience, we were lucky enough to meet 2 Roman soldiers! We found out what Roman soldiers and Celtic warriors wore and we got the chance to try on some Roman armour. It was really heavy! One of them even led us into battle and taught us different battle formations! It was a battle between the boys and girls. Girls were not allowed to join the Roman army but the girls at Ravensbury won!

Roman Banquet Launch

For our launch, we recreated a Roman banquet. We made laurel wreath headbands and ate food typically eaten during that time such as flatbreads, olives, grapes, pancakes, cheese, carrot sticks, apples and oranges. 

 

Rock Quiz!

For our experience, Year 3 took part in a rock quiz! We researched information about rocks and wrote our own questions. We filmed each other asking questions on the Ipads and then we showed them to the other year 3 class. We really enjoyed it!

Year 3 went on a visit to a Hindu temple. We found out lots but we could also share our own information about Rama and Ravana as we have been writing our own stories during our India topic this half term. 

Indian food tasting

We tasted lots of different Indian foods such as poppadoms, nan bread, vegetable samosas, mango chutney and mint and cucumber raita. We really enjoyed the poppadoms and mango chutney!

We made Indian patterns!

This half term, Year 3 are learning about India and what it is like to live there. We have also been doing Indian artwork. We looked at lots of different Indian patterns to help us design and make our own. Look at the bright colours we used!

Times Tables!

This year at Ravensbury we are thinking about developing our times tables. We will be practising our tables in a variety of different ways. One of the ways we can practise is by using a range of online games and activities.

We made canopic jars!

We made some fantastic canopic jars! These were used by the ancient Egyptians for the safekeeping of particular human organs: the stomach, intestines, lungs, and liver, all of which, it was believed, would be needed in the afterlife. There was no jar for the heart: the Egyptians believed it to be the seat of the soul, and so it was left inside the body.

 

Ancient Egypt

In Autumn 1, Year 3 learned all about Ancient Egypt. For our launch, we explored a tomb and found out how the Egyptians mummify their dead. We even turned our friends into mummies, explaining what we were doing and why! 

What lies beneath our feet?

Year 3 have started a new topic, ‘What Lies Beneath Our Feet’, as part of our connected curriculum. We will be learning about The Stone Age and finding out how different rocks are formed. For our launch, we discovered different artefacts used by archaeologists to find out about the past and we also performed a cave man dance and made cave paintings.

Year 3 have a special visitor!

Year 3 were lucky enough to have a very special visitor last week. We found out what it is like to go to a primary school in Africa. We asked lots of questions and we learned that although there are plenty of things that are the same, there are lots of things which are different. We were surprised to find out that students sit on the floor to do their learning!

Year 3 have started learning all about India and thinking about what it might be like to live there. For our launch, we smelled some Indian spices, tried on saris and had a go at Bollywood dancing!
