Year 3JH: Blog items

Hello from Mrs Turner

Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 10:03am

Hello again everyone!

I hope you are all keeping well and enjoying all the home learning your teachers have been giving you to do. I have seen some of your emails and it looks like you are doing brilliantly so well done!  I have been working away at home, I start every morning with the Joe Wicks work out, I wonder how many of you have been doing it too. Remember it’s so important to keep active even when you are at home.

I had another thought, yesterday Penny helped me with the washing, we paired the socks together! I thought this is a good time for you all to be helping out your grown-ups at home. I am sure they would really appreciate it.

I miss you all so much and can't wait to get back to school.

Take care,

Mrs Turner

Hello Thursday.

Date: 26th Mar 2020 @ 8:45am

Good Morning everybody.

Just a quick reminder, keep emailing your work and things you're doing at home to y3homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk so I can see all of the fun you're having. Remember Joe Wicks PE starts at 9am on YouTube - be sure to join in to keep your body and brains healthy!

Maths Task

Look at the numbers in this square

12    4    32   48   64     2

80    3    24    8     72    1

11   33   40    5     60   12

50   10   6    16    28    52

44   20  36    7     96    88

See how many sequences you can make using x and ÷.

Examples: 12 ÷ 3 = 4 / 10 x 6 = 60.

Drawing activity:

Below is an example of how you can use patterns in drawing. Have a go yourself!

There is also a link to a video on Facebook which you don't have to make an account for. It is tips on how to draw animals using your hand outline and there is also a section where you can draw something which could look like two things depending on how you see it. See how much you can do at home today :)

FINALLY, the news have reported that tonight at 8pm, there will be a round of applause for the NHS staff, which are the doctors, nurses and all the people, working and volunteering in our hospitals at such a tricky, strange and uncertain time. If you want to join in, you can do this on your doorstep if you're still awake. Just stand and clap for a minute. They'll hear you! :)

Enjoy your day!

Miss Humphreys :)

Happy Wednesday!

Date: 25th Mar 2020 @ 9:20am

Hi children and parents!

Hope you're having a great time learning at home and those still in school.

I've found lots of exciting things for you to do today:

9am - As I keep saying, Joe Wicks PE on YouTube. This is so much fun and keeps you fit and healthy.

10am - On Facebook (ask to go on your parents account) Oti Mabuse from Strictly Come Dancing is doing live dance lessons. She did one to the Lion King song the other day so give her a look!

11am - Storytime with David Walliams. every day at 11am on www.worldofdavidwalliams.com he releases an audio book so you can listen to him reading. He might even read The Midnight Gang!!!

Carol Vorderman's website www.themathsfactor.com is free until schools return. This is a great website for maths of all ages.

Music with Myleene Class. Twice a week, Myleene is doing music lessons on YouTube. Next one is Friday 27th March 10am.

If you're still a bit confused or worried about what is going on, watch this video and hopefully you will feel a bit better :)  https://nursedottybooks.com/dave-the-dog-is-worried-about-coronavirus-2/

Enjoy your day!

Speak tomorrow.

Tuesday CHOOSE DAY

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 9:19am

Good morning.

Hope you're all feeling fit and healthy after watching Joe Wicks PE. If you missed it, catch it tomorrow at 9am.

Today it is Tuesday so that means Tuesday Choose Day. You get to choose out of the two tasks below, which you want to complete!

Task 1:

Recap over fractions, watch this video on YouTube (skip to 1:45 as he waffles on for far too long at the beginning!!!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p33BYf1NDAE

Recap from me:

½ of 12 =

So we remember: to find a fraction of an amount we do

Whole number ÷ the denominator (bottom)

e.g. 12 ÷ 2 = 6

But what if we want to find a fraction with a different number on the numerator (top)?

For example:

2/3 of 12 =

Whole number ÷ the denominator (bottom) REMEMBER THAT PART IS THE SAME.

Then you multiply (x) your answer by the numerator (top)

e.g. 2/3 of 12

12 ÷ 3 = 4

4 x 2=   8

2/3 of 12 = 8

Answer these questions below:

1. 1/5 of 45

2. 3/4 of 16

3. 2/8 of 64

4. 1/8 of 96

5. 2/3 of 36

Task 2:

Watch this video on YouTube. This video contains lots of key vocabulary, make sure you make notes of the words used in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsv7bYSrzMU&t=293s

Once you have watched the video, I would love for you to use your hands to measure these things in your bedroom. (You measure using your hands by putting one hand in front of the other touching then change the back one to the front and so on) or use a ruler if you do have one at home.

Measure:

1. the longest thing in your bedroom

2. the widest thing in your bedroom

3. the shortest thing in your bedroom

4. the tallest thing in your bedroom.

Take a picture of your findings and email them to me.

Remember, whatever task you choose on Tuesday Choose Day, I'd love to see. The email you can send it to is y3homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Speak tomorrow!

Miss Humphreys :)

Good morning!

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 10:56am

Good morning everybody!

I hope some of you managed to catch Joe Wicks' PE video at 9am (if not, don't worry because he's doing a video EVERY morning Monday - Friday). That is a really cool and fun way to keep your body exercising and ready for action!!!

Just letting you know that you can still email me any questions or work that you have completed to y3homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk - I'm on the other end waiting to hear from my lovely Year 3 children at any time!

I wanted to start with a refresher quiz which unfortunately I can't upload here but I am happy to email it to you, if you email and ask for it.

Also, here is a sentence of the day for you to have a go at...

SENTENCE OF THE DAY

Quickly boudicca began rushin_ threw the woods whilst she is trying to escape the Fourteenf Legion

I've found two errors. There are 5 unmarked errors. Can you find them all? Write this down at home and send me a picture of your completed sentence of the day. Can't wait to see them all!

Speak soon!

Hello from Mrs Turner

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 9:45am

Monday 23rd March 2020

Good morning everyone I hope you are all up and looking forward to a day of learning at home. It is a beautiful day perhaps you can have some time in the garden. I am sorry that I wasn't in school last week, both the government and Mrs Hughes advised that I stay at home but please don't worry I am not sick! I really do miss you all, I was so enjoying going around all the school and teaching so many of you, what amazing children you are.

Year 6 I am especially sorry that we have not had the chance to say goodbye. I remember you all so fondly from year 4 and wish you well with all that the future holds. I believe that each and every one of you has a special future and encourage to grab every opportunity that life gives you. Work hard at high school it will be so worth it.

For everybody else I look forward to seeing you soon - imagine how great that first day will be when we are allowed back into school. I can't wait!  I have seen that Joe Wicks is doing a PE lesson every morning on line, I would encourage you to join in its so important that you stay active even when you are stuck inside.

Stay safe and I will see you soon.

Love Mrs Turner (Hibbs)

Letter to my lovely Year 3's - PLEASE READ**

Date: 20th Mar 2020 @ 8:45am

Hello my lovely Year 3 children!!! Miss Humphreys here.

I’m writing this letter to you because unfortunately, I can’t be in school with you at the moment but I want you to know that I am not off because I am sick or poorly, I am absolutely fine and you will be too so nobody should be worrying! :)

I’m sorry I’ve not been there with you when it’s been a bit of an unclear time. I’m missing you all so much and wish I could be there with you.

You’re about to have a confusing and unusual few weeks where you might not have to come to school but that doesn’t mean you can’t continue your learning at home. I am SO proud of all the hard work you’ve put in this year so far and I want that to continue.

As you know, I am always SUPER impressed when you come in to school and show me the work you have done at home… I want that to continue!!! In fact, I am going to be so happy if you are able to show me your work that you’ve completed over the next few weeks by sending it in emails to  y3homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk.

There may even be some prizes involved!!! This email address is set up for you or your adult to ask me any questions you might have on some of the work you have to complete whilst you’re at home.

Make sure you keep your eye on our class blog on the school website. I will be uploading lots of things on to it including activities like Sentence of the Day. There are loads of websites that you can visit online like hit the button, TT Rockstars (remember, we’re still trying to beat Miss Faragher’s class!!!) and top marks. For a little bit of fun, remember to visit GoNoodle or Just Dance on YouTube to keep your bodies fit and healthy!

We’ve had a few chats in class about what is going on in the world right now and for that reason, I’m not sure for definite when we will be back into our classroom. I hope it is soon because I am bored at home without you crazy lot making me laugh.

Can’t wait to see you all as soon as possible! Stay safe, remember to listen to your adults at home and just keep washing your hands in the same way we have been doing at school.

Love

Miss Humphreys

ROMAN ADVENTURE!!

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 4:46pm

Wow! What an amazing day we have had at the Dewa Roman Experience, Chester!!! Here are just SOME pictures of us on a Roman march with our shields, our tour of the excavation sites inside and us playing with the memorabilia. Well done to everybody for showing our excellent Ravensbury behaviour and thank you for all our parent helpers! We had a fantastic day!

To float or not to float?

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 2:09pm

It's SCIENCE WEEK! We did an experiment to find out whether cans of fizzy pop floated. We predicted that cans that were diet pop might float more than full fat BUT we were wrong!!!! The cans actually turned upside down and all floated. How cool! Here are some pictures to show us doing our experiment with Mrs Turner from Year 5.

Kindness Circle Time

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 2:15pm

WORLD BOOK DAY COSTUMES!

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 12:44pm

Here are some pictures of our amazing costumes!

Chick chick chicken

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 3:53pm

We visted the chicks in nursery! How cute!

Symbols of Easter

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 8:20am

Yesterday afternoon, we looked at different symbols that represented Easter. We enjoyed learning about the different days in Holy Week and the symbols to look out for which represent Easter. Some of those things were the cross, a lamb, baby chicks, easter eggs and finally hot cross buns (which Miss Humphreys let us try)!

Some of us had never tried a hot cross bun before but the verdict was: MMMM YUMMY!

Watch out for the angle eaters!!!

Date: 27th Feb 2020 @ 11:11am

We were on a hunt for different types of angles in maths this week! We used angle eaters to search the classroom for things smaller than, exactly as and bigger than as right angle. It was great fun testing random objects.

Stepping into recounts

Date: 27th Feb 2020 @ 11:08am

During English, we used a technique called stepping stones. We really like using this method because we get to work with people we might not normally and hear lots of different points of view! Here's a look at us discussing features of a recount on stepping stones.

Super Soil Scientists!

Date: 13th Feb 2020 @ 4:03pm

We had a lot of fun this afternoon investigating different types of soils using magnifying glasses and soil. It was great to feel like real scientists with our magnifying glasses!

Performance Poetry!

Date: 13th Feb 2020 @ 4:01pm

Yesterday, we read a poem called 'I was born in the Stone Age' by Michael Rosen. We found it really interesting and funny to read so we decided to perform it in groups. We learnt about techniques to use when performing today and took part in some performance poetry. Here are some pictures of us using those techniques like actions, expression, body language.

See link attached for video of Michael Rosen reading the poem - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq3Q85aA_0k

Rock Quiz!

Date: 12th Feb 2020 @ 3:47pm

This afternoon we had our Connected Curriculum experience where we tested the Year 4's on their rock knowledge! We recorded questions and answers on iPads then showed them to the Year 4's after they had a guess. It was great being able to share what we have been learning about with other children.

Reading Buddies Rock!

Date: 7th Feb 2020 @ 7:37pm

This afternoon was such a special time for us in Nursery and Year 3. We met our reading buddies for the first time ever. It was great sitting, reading and talking about books together. We can't wait for the next time!

Our trip to Southport Eco Centre!

Date: 6th Feb 2020 @ 11:00am

Yesterday, we had an absolutely amazing time at Southport Eco Centre learning even more about The Stone Age. There were lots of different activities for us to participate in and we had so much fun! I would like to say well done to everybody in both 3RH and 3LF for their FANTASTIC behaviour throughout the whole day. Darren and Julie were so impressed with Ravensbury and commented on how well behaved and amazing you all were!

PicCollage creating!

Date: 28th Jan 2020 @ 2:11pm

We were busy researching Stone Age houses for our own designs in Connected Curriculum today. It was lots of fun using PicCollage for ourselves!

Rally Robin

Date: 28th Jan 2020 @ 12:59pm

Today in English, we used our rally robin technique to generate features of a newspaper report. We are going to be writing our own version over the next couple of weeks and this technique helped us refresh our memories on the features needed to make a good article.

Outstandings of the week!

Date: 24th Jan 2020 @ 8:10pm

Happy Friday!

In 3RH, we love to praise outstanding behaviour and this week we have had a couple of children on 'outstanding' for just that, so thought we'd share!

Well done to Casey-Leigh who - as well as always doing the right thing - has been working so extremely hard on her handwriting and consistently showing a resillient attitude!

Well done to Lorenzo who, similar to Casey-Leigh, has tried so hard with his presentation of work. As well as this, he has become more of an independent learner and did excellent in maths where we were learning about fractions. Super job!

Well done to Amon who has been on outstanding twice this week! Amon created a brilliant non-chronological report on The Stone Age using all of the skills he has learnt in Year 3 so far and researching different topics in depth, creating a brilliant read! Amon was also the behaviour star this week. Well done!

Well done to Shawnakaye who was on outstanding for putting 100% effort into her Connected Curriculum work earlier this week. She was so invested in her work and produced a beautifully presented fact sheet which compared homes from The Stone, Bronze and Iron Age.

Finally, well done to Thomas who worked extremely hard throughout the whole week! He worked independently with all his work including fractions in maths and a non-chronological report on The Stone Age in English writing. He was the behaviour star last week so it is great to see a positive learning attitude this week too!

Well done to all our outstanding children!

Welcome to the history channel!

Date: 13th Jan 2020 @ 12:27pm

Good afternoon and welcome to the history channel.  This is 3RH reporting on The Stone Age!

Today we acted as reporters and archaeologists. We interviewed each other on a specialist subject to do with the Stone Age.

Stone Age research

Date: 13th Jan 2020 @ 12:23pm

We've been really interested in finding out about the Stone Age since coming back after Christmas! In particular, we have been looking at Stone Age houses/shelter, tools, hunting/gathering, cave paintings and clothes. Here are some pictures of us researching those topics.
