Have you ever noticed that minibeasts can look very different from each other? As well as different shapes and sizes and colours, they have different body parts.  Look at the minibeasts in the picture.

Can you spot a head, a body or does the minibeast have some wings, legs and antennae? Tell your grown-up what you can see on the pictures below:

Now watch the video of me drawing my own creation and using the key word cards (they’re at the bottom of this blog) to describe it.

Challenge: Can you create your own minibeast and describe it?

9th June 30 Days Wild - Challenge 9

Good morning,

Today sees a challenge that we should do every day. Litter is a big problem for wildlife. It can hurt them and so I’d like to see if you can pick up litter to make your area tidy and safe for the animals that live close to us.

  • DO NOT pick up anything that could hurt you.
  • ALWAYS do this activity with an adult.
  • WEAR protective gloves if you have any.
  • USE a litter picker if you can.

Send me your litter picking photos in to:

nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Have a great day

From Mrs Ganner

Daily Update:

We’ve had some amazing photos in from children in the Foundation Stage. Look at how happy they are looking after the wildlife they have found. They are being really careful too. Read what they say about their learning:

‘We have been out in the parks and garden looking for wild life. We saw some ducks with babies and a spider in the garden. We also have 3 snails which we look after and feed them every day.’

‘This is my friend the worm. I have been watering it and feeding it. Worms don't have any legs because they wiggle.

You really are ‘Wonderful Wildlife Wardens’

Phonics and Maths Daily Challenges - Monday 8th June

Date: 8th Jun 2020 @ 9:47am

Watch the video of me reading ‘One Mole Digging a Hole’:

Phonics: Listen out for rhyming words.

Well done to Honour and Jola for finding this fabulous centipede! It’s safely back outside now. Well done for ‘Going Wild’!

If any of you want a wild weekend then here are two more challenges:

Challenge 1: How do I know it’s a centipede and not a millipede? CLUE: The answer is NOT to do with the number of legs it has.

Challenge 2: Bugs shouldn’t be living in your house so why not make them a hotel in your garden? Stack wood and tubes and crates to make a bug hotel this weekend. Then watch them set up home in all the nooks and crannies. Bugtastic!

Send your answers to my home learning address:

Friday 5th June - Maths

Date: 5th Jun 2020 @ 7:31am

Good Morning Nursery… its ‘Fantastic Friday!’

Are you ready for some Marvellous Maths learning? Great!

This week you have been very busy doing super counting and recognising numbers.

Today we are going to be recognising some numbers that are special to us.

Can you tell your grown up your special number and say how old you are?

Some of you may already be 4 years old! Whilst others maybe 3 and soon you will be 4 years old!

These are the special numbers that we are going to be looking at today.

Today’s challenge:

Have a look at the activity sheets below – All about numbers 3 & 4.

Take a look at the number packs too, to spot your special number in different places!

Then see if you can have a go at completing some of the challenges:

  • Roll a dice until you throw a number 3 or 4, draw the dotty dice pattern.
  • Find 3 or 4 objects around your house, what did you find? Can you draw your objects?
  • Can you draw 3 pens / 4 apples?
  • Can you see the number 3 and 4 around your house?
  • Can you practise writing the number 3 and 4?

Well done! I hope you enjoyed learning about your special number.

Don't forget, we love seeing your learning so send your pictures to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

This week we have been learning and developing our oral blending and segmenting skills.

Today you can have a look at the challenges for oral blending and segmenting on the home learning sheet below.

Choose one of the challenges from the sheet and with your grown up have a go at playing it.

You may also like to play one of the games from earlier in the week too. Why don’t you have another go at playing the ‘I spy’ game or ‘Metal Mike’ or use your oral blending skills to get your teddy ready for another adventure!

Don't forget to send photos of your learning to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Thursday 4th June - Phonics

Date: 4th Jun 2020 @ 7:44am

Today we are going to have a go at segmenting sounds in words.

Remember - segmenting is separating the sounds we can hear in words.

To do this we need to talk like a robot!

Watch the video of Miss Heritage segmenting the sounds in words with Metal Mike.

Your challenge today is to make a robot mask like Metal Mike then segment sounds in words by talking like a robot.

Find some objects for Metal Mike to use. Then wear your mask and talk like a robot by segmenting the sounds you hear for each of your objects.

Have fun, talking like a robot to segment sounds in words.

Don’t forget to send pictures of your learning to: nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Thursday 4th June - Maths

Date: 4th Jun 2020 @ 7:19am

Good Morning Nursery, are you ready for your Maths learning today?

Great!

Did you find lots of numerals on your number hunt yesterday?

Here are some of the numbers I found on my number hunt. Take a look and tell your grown up the numerals that I found.

Fantastic!

Today we are going to continue to recognise numerals with this fun challenge!

Can you think about or have a look at the front door of your house? What colour is it? Does it have a letter box or a bell? Maybe the door has a window and a door handle.

Have you ever noticed that each home has a number? Do you know why this is? Who does the number help?

Have a look at the pictures of the doors below. Can you see that each door has a number on it? Can you recognise any of these numbers?

Sometimes a home may have just 1 number but sometimes a home can have 2 or 3 numbers to make a larger number.

Today’s challenge is to find the number or numbers that are on your home. Can you recognise and say the numbers you see?

Next draw a picture of your front door and write the number of your house on your door.

You then might like to go on a walk with your grown up to look for numbers on other people’s front doors. Can you recognise any of the numbers? Are any the same? How many different numbers can you see?

Make sure you send pictures of your learning to: nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchestr.sch.uk

We have some fabulous photos below, just in from Alissia and Keira. Great bug spotting!

Tuesday 2nd June - Phonics

Date: 2nd Jun 2020 @ 7:04am

Good morning Nursery!

Can you remember the sounds we have been looking at? Have a go at playing this ‘I spy’ and see if you can spot objects beginning with s, a, t, p, i, n.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4YaF-jXWuY

You can also play I spy using the pictures on the sheet attached.

Now we are going to play a game of I spy by saying the sounds in a word and blending the sounds together to say the word.

Success spider says: Listen carefully, blend the sounds, say the word.

CLICK HERE TO WATCH TODAY'S SHOW ME CLIP

Today’s phonic challenge is to play a game of ‘I spy’ with your grown up.

To play this game you will need to find some of the following objects: hat, cat, cup, mat, dog, hat, zip, peg, pan, pig, sock, can etc.

Place the objects on a tray.

(Adults – name each object with your child to check they can name each one.)

Adult say ‘I spy with my little eye a c-u-p'

Ask your child to say the name of the object and hold it up.

Then encourage your child to say the individual sounds and blend them together ‘c-u-p, cup’.

Repeat for another object. Continue playing the game saying the sounds and identifying the object for all the items on the tray.

Good luck playing this game and have fun!

We care, We soar’
