Science Experiment Day!

Date: 21st May 2021 @ 2:50pm

Today we have had a day full of science!

We put on our lab coats and we were ready to experiment!

We got our equipment ready and we tested if the celery and flowers would turn red in the food colouring.

First we cut the roots off the celery.

Next we put some water in a cup and we mixed in red food colouring.

Then we put the celery and white flowers into the cup and we waited,

and waited

and waited

and were still waiting...

Do you think they will finally turn red over the weekend?

Los Animales Domesticos!

Date: 21st May 2021 @ 2:42pm

Today in Spanish, 5HW have been learning different animal names. We have even started to put our vocabulary into sentences!

Mrs Ganner

Date: 21st May 2021 @ 2:23pm

Yesterday we read a book called, “Look at the shoots”. In the book some children performed an experiment and we thought it would be cool to do the experiment ourselves. We carried out the same experiment this morning because we like to be scientists. Scientists find out things in the world. We wanted to discover what happens when you put celery and a flower in coloured water. We think they will suck up the water and it will male the celery red and the flower buds red too.

The Abomniables

Date: 21st May 2021 @ 2:07pm

We have loved reading The Abomniables over the past few weeks. Yesterday, we created our own collages of the yeti's camp. Well done 3RH!

Challenge Friday

Date: 21st May 2021 @ 11:51am

We have had a very busy morning in Nursery for 'Challenge Friday!' The children had to complete four challenges across the nursery provision! We have been drawing the life cycle of a butterfly, name writing, drawing patterns and sorting stripy and spotty objects! Take a look at all of our fantastic learning on the pictures below :)

Exploring 20

Date: 20th May 2021 @ 10:24pm

Today we have been using tens frames to help us to explore the different ways that we can make 20. Look at our fantastic work!

Fruit tasting

Date: 20th May 2021 @ 10:16pm

This half term we have been reading a story called Oliver's Vegetables. In the story, Oliver visits his grandpa's house where there are lots of different vegetables in the garden. Oliver tries the different vegetables in the hunt for potatoes to make chips. He realises that vegetables are really yummy!
This week we have been changing the story and adding fruit rather than vegetables. We tried kiwi, watermelon, blueberries, pineapple and plums to help us to think of adjectives to describe them. Next we will use these fantastic adjectives in our writing!

We have created and we have explored!

Date: 20th May 2021 @ 6:56pm

Well Year 2 have really lived up to the school moto we create, we explore, we care, we soar this week. Mrs Murton, Miss Smith, Miss Harris and I have really enjoyed teaching this week and we know that the children have really enjoyed their learning.

This week the children have been creating in their music lesson with Miss Kent. They have composed music and played it on a range of instruments. Look at the fun that they have had. Well done to Robert for getting 'Star musician of the week'.

We have also made the best of the nice, sunny weather and have been learning outdoors this week. We have been learning about capacity and have explored the maximum capacity of water a container will hold and have compared the volume of water in different containers, which has been fun! It did get messy and there was water all over but the children's clothes soon dried off . The children have asked if they can do each week because they had so much fun.

Another successful week. Well done year 2!

The Victorians

Date: 20th May 2021 @ 6:30pm

Hello,

Year 2 have really worked really hard over the past weeks. They have enjoyed learning about the 'Victorians' and have become completely immersed in learning about them.

They particularly enjoyed looking at sculptures from the victorian era and as part of this looked at work by Giacometti. They researched his work and then used it as an inspiration to create their own work.

They manipulated tin foil to create a sculpture of a person.

We think they did an amazing job!!!!!!

Math Magicians

The children have been trying to work out and solve problems using their knowledge of inverse operations. Have a look at their fantastic work!

Space Food Tasting!

Date: 18th May 2021 @ 10:22am

We have had a very exciting morning here in 5HW!

As part of our Nutrition unit of work in D&T, we have been finding out about how astronuats eat a balanced diet whilst living on the International Space Station (since we are studying Space in Science!). As part of that, we have tasted freeze-dried food this morning, which is the type of food the astronauts would have eaten on the first space missions in the 1960s!

We have tried 5 foods:

Tortilla

Banana

Cinnamon Apple Wedges (the BIG favourite!)

Strawberry

Neopolitan Ice Cream

Have a look at our photos - can you work out which food is which on the plate?

Telling the time

Date: 17th May 2021 @ 11:01pm

Last week we have been learning how to tell the time to o'clock and half past times. We used our own analogue clocks to tell the time and then we read times and drawed the minute and hour hands correctly on a blank clock.

We discussed how telling the time was an important skill that will help us all the time. We also looked at lots of different images of clocks so we had an understanding that clocks can look very different.

Why not try this game and continue to do some learning at home... Click on the top sections where it says analogue to analogue and o'clock/half past times.

Measuring Sunflowers

Date: 17th May 2021 @ 10:54pm

Our CC topic this half term is called 'How does the garden grow?' We have learnt lots of facts and vocabulary linked to plants, flowers and trees. We started the half term by planting some sunflower seeds and over the last few weeks we have been looking after out plants and measured how tall the plant is growing. We used our maths skills to measure our sunflowers using a ruler and record how tall they have grown. Next week we are hoping to take them home and continue to look after them until they have grown into beautiful sunflowers.

Super Science!

Date: 15th May 2021 @ 8:05pm

In science last week, year 4 went on a minibeast hunt! We hunted through the school garden, and found all sorts of amazing creatures. Can you name the creatures in the photographs?

Snail and the Whale - what

Date: 14th May 2021 @ 3:52pm

At the start of the week we discovered something huge in the playground. It was immense and there was a speech bubble coming out of its’ mouth. Take a look at the videos to see our colossal discovery, what had been sent to us and the writing and pictures we made after. Books are so exciting, we love to learn about stories.

Snail Challenge

Date: 14th May 2021 @ 3:37pm

Today we found out about where snails live ?.

”The fox is going to try to eat the snail. He’s going to crunch it all up.” Avaya

“Snails need a place to hide so it’s safe.” Goodness

“Our snail looks like Gary from Spongebob”, said Avaya.

The children decided what they were going to make and how they would make it. Some decided to build models, others drew and then some used resources from the creative area. We love how creative our children are.

Super Snail Friday Challenge

Date: 14th May 2021 @ 2:46pm

Today we had a great day learning all about snails.

Did you know ...?

Snails leave a silvery trail - Priya

Snails like to eat leaves - Ava

Snails also like to live in a bit of rain and damp.

Snails live under rocks - Freya

They live in the leaves - Corey

A snail has one strong leg - Olivia

Today we spent lots of time in our classroom making and creating snails and their habitats. Take a look at the pictures to see what we've been doing. I wonder if you will see any snails this weekend on your rainy walks.

Come On, Daisy!

Date: 14th May 2021 @ 1:44pm

This week in nursery, we discovered a box in the classroom. It was labelled with pictures and captions, we talked about what each of these words mean and thought about what might be inside the box. Suddenly, something made a noise! It was Daisy Duck! She had left a letter for us to read! We introduced ourselves, writing our names and drawing pictures for Daisy. Take a look at the video below to see all of our learning from this week!

Eid Mubarak

Date: 13th May 2021 @ 10:10am

Today lots of our friends are celebrating Eid

We watched a video and we listened to one of our friends tell us how she celebrates Eid. "We like to celebrate Eid. I help my mummy make some yummy food. My Mummy and my Daddy bring me new clothes. I will wear a yellow dress with little flowers on it. We hug everyone and say 'Eid Mubarak' "

Watch the video here:

https://youtu.be/iUtIG3CMaYE

We have been creating pictures, drawing henna patterns on hands, dancing and celebrating by having a party with the cake! Have a great Eid everybody.

Footprint

Date: 13th May 2021 @ 9:17am

We had a secret vistor in the classroom this week. Who could it be?

Footprint

Date: 12th May 2021 @ 7:19pm

On Monday, we discovered this in our classroom. We aren't positive what it is or who has left it but we do have a main suspect. We have started to read a new book called The Abominables to see if we can discover who it might belong to.
