Happy New Year!

Welcome to a new decade

This year we are going to be making lots of memories. Every week each class will add a memory to the memories box and at the end of the year we will have a look back at them.

Learning a Tudor Dance

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 3:05pm

The Tudor lower classes were not in the position to hear the new royal court music or learn the intricate steps of the Tudor Court dances practised by the rich. The lower class dances revolved around country dancing which was danced by couples in round, square or rectangular sets in much simpler and repetitive forms than those of the royal court dance. For our launch, we learned the ‘Gathering Peascods’ dance.

The magical toy box

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 1:53pm

As part of the topic work toys old and new the children have been reading the book 'The magical toybox'. The story is about toys that come to life. The children have enjoyed finding out about what the toys get up to when Lucy the little girl goes to sleep.

The children have enjoyed making the characters from the story in the creative area. They used collage paper, split pins and felt tips to create giraffes, hippos, teddy bears and lions.

Terrific toys

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 1:27pm

This week we have been comparing old and new toys. We have looked at and have played with old and new toys and have been thinking about what is the same and what is different?

Can you think of any ways old and new toys are the same and different?

Old and new toys

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 1:20pm

This term we are learning all about old and new toys.

On Friday we all brought our favourite toys into school. We had lots of fun sharing our toys with each other and playing different games. We loved playing board games like snakes and ladders and learnt how to play guess who. William in Miss Rileys class was a great bingo caller and we played a whole class game of bingo!

In the afternoon we were very lucky and had a special visitor who showed us some old toys and taught us how to play with them. We loved learning about the old toys, especially 'jacks' and 'shut the box'.

Have a look at the amazing Science & IT work 5HW have been doing. We designed a poster using PicCollage to help us remember the different stages of a human's life.

Have a look at our 'life cycles' below!

3 Furry Visitors

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 12:00pm

Some bears appeared! Then a letter, then lots of objects. Some were big, some were middle sized and some were little. Can you guess who we are learning about? Look at the last picture if you haven't worked it out yet.

I Can Do It!

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 11:26am

Over the last term at school we have been learning how to be more independent. We are remembering to do things for ourselves but sometimes need a little bit of help. It makes us feel proud when we are independent.

So our grown ups know what we can do for ourselves, we told them about a story book we have read. It's called 'I Can Do It!''. EVERYONE GOT A BOOK TO TAKE HOME TOO! (We also gave our grown-ups a leaflet with pictures in it that we can use at home.)

When we have learned a new skill we sing a special song ' I can do it, hip hooray'. Sometimes we sing, 'I need to practice every day.'

Learning takes time. It's fun to be more independent.

Party Time!

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 11:16am

Our Christmas party was so much fun! We played pass the parcel, musical statues (look at the cool dude prizes won by the children haha) and ate the food that our grown-ups brought in. After a busy day that was full of fun, we turned the lights out and watched a movie - The Snowman. This made us feel calm, ready to go home after the best day ever.

It was a lovely day and we looked super smart in our party clothes.

Happy Christmas everybody

Christmas Crowns

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 11:11am

To create a beautiful crown we counted out and then glued 3 jewels on to the card. To make the fringe we used our fine motor skills to snip, snip, snip.

Santa Trip!

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 11:08am

We went to see the real Santa! He has reindeer and elves and he gave us a present. We really enjoyed our trip, so much so some of the children fell asleep on the way home - this made our teachers laugh.

Books help us learn so many things...

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 10:59am

We use maths stories to help us understand how to use maths in the real world . There is so much to learn when you're putting up your Christmas tree!

Each Peach Pear Plum

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 10:54am

We have been designing our own Nursery Rhyme Land pictures by thinking about what lines to draw. We chose what we wanted to draw to create these magical backgrounds for our characters to walk through. We're so proud of how much we are learning in Nursery!

10 Tree Trimmers

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 10:50am

At school we use symbols to help us play games. We call them success strips. Can you work out how to play the game?

Super Soundscape

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 10:46am

Do you know that we can make music for Nursery Rhymes? This is one of our favourites - do you know which one it is? If you want to make these sounds, say the rhyme and play the instruments. Come in to class for a demonstration if you want!

We're Going on a Sound Hunt

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 10:23am

What sounds can you hear all around? We are becoming experts at listening for sounds and finding where they are coming from. Can you identify the sounds before we do?

The Great Race story

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 9:49am

We acted out the story of the Great Race. We were all given an animal mask when we came into school.

We got into small groups and acted out what the animals were doing and saying to each other while the race was taking place.

We then performed to the rest of the class!

New vocabulary!!

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 9:47am

In our new story this term - 'The Great Race' - there was lots of vocabulary that we hadn't heard of before! To help us understand and remember these new words we acted out the vocabulary and had lots of fun!

We learned new words like ...

Wallowing

Coiled

Bounded

Soared

Gazed

Journeyed

Prowled

Junior Story Time

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 9:46am

We loved it when one of the junior children came to read us a story. Each Peach Pear Plum is our favourite book because it has lots and lots of characters! .

The Great Race

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 9:10am

On our first day back at school, we came in and Mrs English was putting hats on our heads and we didn't know why! We then each got given a different animal.

I was a rabbit - Zuzanna

I was a tiger - Annabelle

I was a dog - Corey

I was a goat - Talitha

I was a rat - Daniel

We looked at the front cover of our new story for this term. It was called 'The Great Race'. We predicted what the story would be about.

Then ... the fun part. We went outside and had our very own great race!! Even the teachers took part.

It was fabulous - Rahman

I won the race! - Keyina

I came second - Daniel

I came third - Miss Calvert

We then came back into class and read the rest of the Great Race story. It talks about how the animals were selected for each year of the calendar.

Exhibition

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 9:04am

For our end of topic experience, we put on an art exhibition for our grown ups.

We used card and a template to make a Tudor house in the style of houses during the Great Fire of London.

Then we used oil pastels to create the night sky.

We printed using polystyrene to make the River Thames and also to make the fire.

Our display looks fabulous - come and have a look at it in the Key Stage One shared area!

Vlad and the Great Fire of London

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 8:57am

We made our own puppets for the story of Vlad and the Great Fire of London.

Mine was called Daisy - Faith

Mine was called Monkey Cat - Aaron

Mine was called Rapunsey - Tiwan

Mine was called Stella - Harrison

Mine was called Snowflake - Maisy

Mine was called Lifer - Lacey

Mine was called Rosie - Kendra

We performed the story of Vlad and the Great Fire of London with our puppets.

Have you read the story? If not, ask one of the children from 2CC to tell you what happens. It's a brilliant story based on something that really happened!

The Storm Whale in Winter

Date: 16th Jan 2020 @ 2:38pm

Our new story this half term is called 'The Storm Whale in Winter.' In this story a boy called Noi lives with his dad on an island and makes friends with a whale. One wintery day Noi's dad goes out fishing and doesn't return. Noi is brave and goes searching for his dad and his friend the whale comes back to help him.

Please visit the website below to watch a video of the story:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPtet0D2zHc

We got a message in a bottle from Noi who left the story and his whale friend for us to look after. We have read the story and made models of the Storm Whale, we wrote some sentences about what Noi imagined would be under the sea and wrote some messages from dad or Noi.

‘We create, We explore,

We care, We soar’
