Learning vocabulary for our reading book

This week, Y1 have been learning the new vocabulary in our reading book.

We practised recognising the graphemes, checked we knew the phonemes, decoded the words and matched the words to the pictures.

Finally, we were able to read the whole reading book! Great work Y1!

Threshold Challenge!

Before we could even get into our EAL room today, we had to do a Threshold Challenge! We had to walk along the path of base verbs and say each one in the simple past. The path started outside the room and wound its way all the way to our table.

Luckily, everyone knew their past tense verbs. Well done!

 

 

Learning irregular past tense verbs

This week, our KS2 group have been having fun learning some irregular past simple verbs.  They are so tricky as they do not follow the rules and we have to learn them, so we need to practise, practise, practise!

 

Hot and cold

Y2 have been learning the language of temperature, and then looking at cold habitats. We have learnt the names of some animals that live in the Artic.

New phonemes

Each week , we learn some new phonemes because many of us are having to learn a completely new alphabet and sound system. This week,KS2 have looked at different ways of writing the sound u . How many ways can you think of?

 

Checking our skills!

We have been checking our basic skills this week to make sure we can recall  them  whenever we need to.

Here we are looking at ordering numbers and reading common exception words. 

The language of time

We have been looking at the language of time this week. We are learning to tell the time, order the months of the year and use other words which tell us more about when something happens such as before and after. Great work team!

 

 

 

Subject verb agreement fun!

We have been practising the tricky skill of making the verb agree with the subject of our sentences by playing games. We used all of our teamwork skills to choose the corrrect from of the verb.

Syllabification!

We have been looking at breaking up words into syllables to help us say, read and write words. Can you decide if we have sorted the pictures correctly? 

In, on or under ?

We've been having lots of fun this week using the prepositions in, on and under! Can you guess which preposition we are showing you in the photos?

Sentence order

We have been looking at the order of words in English sentences this week. It can be so tricky, so we colour coded the subject, verb and object in each sentence to help us.

Teamwork skills!

We are sad to be saying good bye to Mrs Glover who will be leaving us this summer. We wish her all the very best for her next venture and will miss her in the EAL department.

In Y5 , we have been looking at the language of bull fighting as part of the Connected Curriculum and English work on Spain. We have used graphic organisers to structure our sentences.

African animals
