Learning the Lindy Hop Dance

Date: 14th Sep 2022 @ 11:33am

This week we launched our new topic about life during The Second World War. We started with a dance, where the children all had to learn an old fashioned dance called the 'Lindy Hop'. They did very well and had a chance to practise. As you can see from the photographs below, they all had a great time.

A Peaceful protest for Climate Change

Date: 17th May 2022 @ 2:59pm

Year 6 took part in a peaceful protest to raise awareness of Global Warming and Climate Change. They made amazing banners to use when marching around the school grounds. They attracted a lot of attention because they made the decision to hold their protest at the same time as the school cake sale. This had a big impact as there were a lot of people around. We are so proud of the children in both year 6 classes for showing so much passion and dedication to 'making a change' for the better.

Date: 24th Mar 2022 @ 1:34pm

Year 6 Homework

Date: 2nd Nov 2021 @ 3:57pm

Welcome back to school! We hope you had a lovely week off! We were absolutely blown away in Year 6 this morning by the homework projects that the children brought into school! The children were asked to complete a task linked to our World War II topic and they certainly rose to the challenge. This morning we were greeted by amazing models, diary entries, war posters, ration books and fact booklets which clearly showed a lot of time and effort had gone into them! Well done Year 6- a brilliant start to this half term!

Black History Month Special Event

Date: 17th Oct 2021 @ 10:43pm

Today Year 6 were lucky enough to have a live zoom meet up with Donavan

Christoper, a poet, also known as Rappaman.

Not only did he read us some of his fantastic poetry, he inspired us to dig deeper and find out more about the origins of Black History Month by researching Carter G Woodson. The children really enjoyed finding out about this inspirational figure and were curious to find out more as well as enjoying listening to a fab poem about him.

Donavan also asked us to find out more about other black heroes:

The Scar eyed Queen of Kush

Ruby Bridges

Frederick Douglas

Mary Seacole

And to research the Ancient World of African Kingdoms such as Nubia and Kush as well as more current heroes like the European Championship footballers who played for England this year!

Here is what the children said after the zoom...

Knife Crime: Why are we talking about it?

Date: 23rd Sep 2021 @ 8:43pm

This week we had a very interesting talk about Knife Crime and it's impact. We had a visitor from Global Policing who came in to speak to us about it.

Ex Manchester City captain Vincent Komapany has voiced his opinion previously too, saying that young people need "the right amount of education and support at every level" to help prevent knife crime.

Check out the link below to BBC Newsround for more information.

There is also a clip for what to do if you feel worried by anything you hear in the media.
