Year 6DL: Blog items
Date: 2nd Nov 2021 @ 3:57pm
Welcome back to school! We hope you had a lovely week off! We were absolutely blown away in Year 6 this morning by the homework projects that the children brought into school! The children were asked to complete a task linked to our World War II topic and they certainly rose to the challenge. This morning we were greeted by amazing models, diary entries, war posters, ration books and fact booklets which clearly showed a lot of time and effort had gone into them! Well done Year 6- a brilliant start to this half term!
Black History Month Special Event
Date: 17th Oct 2021 @ 10:43pm
Today Year 6 were lucky enough to have a live zoom meet up with Donavan
Christoper, a poet, also known as Rappaman.
Not only did he read us some of his fantastic poetry, he inspired us to dig deeper and find out more about the origins of Black History Month by researching Carter G Woodson. The children really enjoyed finding out about this inspirational figure and were curious to find out more as well as enjoying listening to a fab poem about him.
Donavan also asked us to find out more about other black heroes:
The Scar eyed Queen of Kush
Ruby Bridges
Frederick Douglas
Mary Seacole
And to research the Ancient World of African Kingdoms such as Nubia and Kush as well as more current heroes like the European Championship footballers who played for England this year!
Here is what the children said after the zoom...

Goodbye Ghyllhead! What an amazing time we have had! Both Year 6 classes have been a credit to Ravensbury; they have had so much fun and challenged themselves with so many of the activities. They have displayed such teamwork and super listening skills as well as encouraging each other through challenges including the zip-wire, the night-line and even making up their own beds! We have made wonderful memories that will stay with us forever...thank you to everyone involved in making this trip an adventure to remember!
Date: 4th Oct 2021 @ 10:24am
What an exciting week it is going to be for Year 6! We are off to Ghyllhead on Wednesday for an outdoor adventure we will never forget! Ghyll scambling, zip-wire, canoeing and mountain walks...there is so much to look forward to! I don't who is more excited... the staff or the children!

Knife Crime: Why are we talking about it?
Date: 23rd Sep 2021 @ 8:43pm
This week we had a very interesting talk about Knife Crime and it's impact. We had a visitor from Global Policing who came in to speak to us about it.
Ex Manchester City captain Vincent Komapany has voiced his opinion previously too, saying that young people need "the right amount of education and support at every level" to help prevent knife crime.
Check out the link below to BBC Newsround for more information.
There is also a clip for what to do if you feel worried by anything you hear in the media.

We were very excited on Thursday as we had Miss Kent back in the class room. It seems like such a long time ago that we had a live music lesson and we were finally allowed to sing again.
