Wellbeing challenge number 8

Date: 22nd Apr 2020 @ 11:30am

Good morning, Happy Wednesday everyone! I can't believe it's already the middle of the week.

Since we have such lovely weather today (and for most of the week!) my challenge for you today is to get outside and enjoy the sun and see what you can see!

Some of you may be lucky enough to have a garden and if you do then you can do my challenge from there but a walk would be even better and then you can be more active too. Yesterday I went for a lovely walk to Philips Park as I'm lucky enough to only live a 20 minute walk away, see some of my pictures below.

While you're out either in your garden or your walk, have a spring scavenger hunt to see what you can see. Why not get an adult to take a picture of the list on their phones so you can take it with you and see what you can tick off? Or maybe write them on a piece of paper and take it with you so you can tick off the items as you go!

On my walk I saw grass, bird nests, yellow flowers, clouds, worms, sticks, green leaves, dandelions and some beautiful blossom trees too. I didn't see any bunnies unfortnatey but I did see some cute little squirrels!

Make sure you e-mail your class e-mail addresses to let us know what you found and maybe even some photos too.

Mrs Glover

Here are some pictures of my walk:

Thanks to Mrs Iqbal's son, Adam for his picture of his happy place.

And also to Tomasz in Reception who also sent his picture. They both look lovely and very cosy!

Wednesday's Maths Challenge

Date: 22nd Apr 2020 @ 8:22am

I hope you enjoyed playing the counting games yesterday.

Are you ready to learn another new game today?

To play this game, you will need to find these items...

 (You need about ten coins!)

Adult: Have the cup and coins ready to play!

Then ask your child to sit facing away from you and the cup.

Then when you are ready, your adult will drop some coins into the cup, one at a time.

You need to listen and count carefully as you hear a coin being dropped into the cup.

When it stops, you must say how many coins are in the cup. (This is harder than it sounds!)

I hope you have lots of fun playing this game!

Wednesday 22nd April Phonics

Date: 22nd Apr 2020 @ 7:21am

Good Morning Nursery!

I hope you enjoyed yesterday's sound hunt, looking for items beginning with s.

We certainly did! Take a look at some of the items we found...

We then drew some of the items and wrote the letter s.

Maybe you found some items that were the same or maybe you found some different ones! Keep sending your learning in to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Today's Phonics Challenge maybe a little tricker to find...but I am sure you will have a good go!

Let's see what we can find today!

Can you a draw a picture of the items you find and practise writing today's sound?

Reading Challenge

Date: 21st Apr 2020 @ 11:45am

Each week we will be posting a Reading Challenge for you to complete.

This week's Reading Challenge focuses on the story 'Topsy and Tim on the farm'.

You can listen to the story by clicking on the link below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xftLYUow1z0

Listen together with your adult and have fun joining in with the animal noises!

Grown ups: Following the story we would like you to talk to your child and encourage them to respond to the story by asking and discussing:

Which animals did Topsy and Tim see at the farm?

Which animal scared Topy and Tim? What did they do?

How did Topsy and Tim help the farmer?

What did Topsy and Tim take home from the farm?

Make a list of the animals at the farm. You can draw a picture or ask an adult to help write a list of the animals.

Now talk about which one you like the most? Why?

Who do you think would be the noisiest animal? Can you draw this animal and talk about the noise it makes?

Well done! Now you might like to have a go at playing this game!

Hello and welcome back after the Easter holidays, I hope everyone had a good Easter! My husband bought me a delicious unicorn Easter Egg although I haven't finished it yet!

Today's wellbeing challenge is to design your own Happy Place. Here is an online game where you can build your own virtual happy place by just dragging and dropping objects into your room.

https://www.childline.org.uk/toolbox/games/build-your-happy-place/

You even get to choose your own wallpaper! Or if you don't fancy that, why not draw and colour a picture of your happy place? Or you could even do both!

Here's a picture of the room that I built, I wish could build a real room like it!

Please send any pictures of your happy place rooms to your home learning e-mail addresses, I'd love to see them.

Tuesday 21st April Maths

Date: 21st Apr 2020 @ 9:18am

Good Morning Nursery!

Today in our Maths learning we are going to practise our counting skills.

Lets start by singing a counting song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNw1SSz18Gg

Here are two new counting games for you to play with your adult…

Game 1:

Start counting to 10 slowly and clearly.

Your adult will stop you by clapping once.

You must then whisper the number you would be saying next. Are you correct?

Continue to count up to 10.

*Repeat the game. You can play it lots of times and your adult will clap and stop you at different points.

Game 2:

You will need a ball to play this game.

Stand apart, facing your adult with enough room to bounce the ball in the middle.

Try to bounce a ball between you and your adult ten times.

Say the number each time you catch the ball.

Bounce, catch (1) bounce, catch (2), bounce, catch (3) and so on...

We hope you have lots of fun playing these new games!

Hello, Miss Heritage here with today's challenges!

Earlier today I read the story 'Peppa the Easter bunny'.

Today's Phonic Challenge!

Your first challenge is to find items around your home beginning with the sound 'p' for Peppa, 'p' for pig.

You could draw a picture of the things you find or ask a grown up  to help you write a list of the words.

You could even have a go at drawing a picture of 'Peppa Pig' and write the word 'pig' next to your picture.

Have a look at the 'show me' clip to help you sound out and write the word.

Maths Counting Challenge!

Practise your counting skills by counting the objects in the pictures below.

How many Easter eggs can you count? *Remember to point to each egg as you count and say each number name in turn.

Find and count the items. Count the items in the picture, you can even have a go at writing the numeral to match the amount of items.

Good luck and remember to send any photos of your learning to nureseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Wellbeing holiday challenge

Date: 6th Apr 2020 @ 11:36am

Hi everyone,

Happy Easter holidays!

If you're still looking to stay busy over the holidays then I know the teachers are setting some fun activities but you could also give this exciting project a go!

Liverpool Museum are asking children between the age of 4 and 11 to create their own exhibition or gallery all about you and your favourite things. The project involves creating a project, designing a poster and then creating a video and some of them will even win the chance to have their exhibition feature on their website as well as spending an afternoon at the museum and getting a behind the scenes tour.

There is more information here : https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/my-home-my-museum and in these pictures below. Please send us pictures or links to your home e-mail addresses if you do this!

If you missed any of the wellbeing challenges from last week then why not give them a go too?

Happy Easter!

Easter Baking Ideas!

Date: 4th Apr 2020 @ 9:04am

Good morning Ravensbury!

I'm just getting my shopping list ready and was looking up some Easter baking receipes I thought my children would enjoy over these next couple of weeks. There are some lovely ideas on the BBC Good Food website, and thought you might like to have a go at some Easter baking too!

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/easter-kids

Really, I'm hoping to make Hot Cross Buns for the first time - but that all depends on whether I can buy some bread flour, and the flour aisle in the shops has been pretty empty! Perhaps I'll find some today!

Wishing you all a lovely Easter (and happy baking!),

Mrs Hodges x

You know how we help you at school by modelling how to draw and write words? Well this is what we want you to do for this challenge. The only problem is, I haven't drawn the characters in this one, hehe. You'll have to look at the shapes you can see to draw character and work that bit out for yourself.  That's Ok though. You can do it, hip hooray!

If you can draw a character or draw the character and write the name label underneath send your photos to

Wellbeing challenge number 6

Date: 3rd Apr 2020 @ 10:55am

Happy Friday everyone and well done for learning at home for 2 whole weeks! As strange as I've found it not being at school, the time has flown by for me so I hope it feels the same for you.

I'm going to do one final wellbeing challenge for today and then take a break for the next 2 weeks for the Easter holiday. However, check back on Monday morning as over the weekend I am going to set you a little wellbeing project in case anyone wants an Easter challenge.

Since it's the end of the week, today's challenge is to relax and get ready for the weekend so I want everyone to do a guided meditation. This is when you close your eyes and listen to a lovely soothing voice transport you to somewhere new. They are great for helping you to sleep or if you just want to relax at the end of your learning.

There are plenty available on Youtube, here are a few of my favourites:

Secret treehouse - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWOHcGF1Tmc

Spaceship to the moon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV9BBR1RoGg

Hot air balloon ride - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlv6Y1tq1sQ

Have a great Easter holiday and don't forget to check back for the challenge next week if you think you'd like to do it. I'll be back with a daily challenge from Monday the 20th of April if we're still at home then.

Past challenges

Thank you to Mrs Ganner for sending me a photo of her daughter completing the baking challenge from earlier in the week, it looks amazing and has made me want to bake something chocolately myself this weekend! I think I might make some brownies as a treat for my husband!

Maths Counting Challenge

Date: 3rd Apr 2020 @ 10:42am

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE COUNTING VIDEO

To move on from our last counting challenge we want you to show us that you can count groups of objects yourself.

Watch the Show Me video to practice your counting skills and as an extra super tricky challenge you can write how many too. That will really see if  your number skills practice from the home learning pack is showing progress. If you still find writing numbers tricky, keep trying. You know how we love to achieve things in Nursery:

'If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again'
