Hi everyone.

Mrs Ganner here. Thank you so much to everyone who is sending their home learning photos in to our special email address

nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

This morning I received another excellent example of how well Nursery children are learning at home with their grown-ups. This little learner has been very busy today. She started the day doing PE with Joe Wicks, then baked a cake and put her rainbow up in the window!

Please keep sending your photos and videos in. It's lovely to see your work and smiling faces laugh

Wellbeing challenge number 5

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 11:32am

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all still working hard and staying safe. Thanks to both children and staff who've been e-mailing me pictures of their wellbeing challenges, it's really cheering me up! I've included some at the bottom of my post again.

Today's wellbeing challenge is all about yoga. Yoga is a great way to relax and escape for a while and it's good for both your bodies and minds. I like to put on some relaxing music while I do it and am lucky enough to have a lovely bright pink yoga mat too as otherwise I'd be on a hard wooden floor. A carpet, rug or blanket would work just as well though.

There's a great channel on Youtube called Cosmic Kids that does lots of different fun yoga sessions: https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga (I know that Miss Bryce's class have done some of these sessions and we did some school last week too so some of you are already great at it!)

Any adults reading, or maybe older children who fancy something a bit more difficult could have a go at this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTANio_2E0Q

Here I am below doing the bound ankle pose :-)

Remember to let us know how you get on!

Past challenges

Thanks Ferdows in reception who has e-mailed in a picture of his origami rabbit from yesterdays challenge, I love it!

Another thank you to Mrs Iqbal and her son Adam who did the baking challenge from Tuesday and made this delicious looking chocolate cake!

Here is another exampe of a fabulous home learning activitiy completed by one of our Nursery children. She is using amazing scissor skills to create a farm scene. As she cut out the pictures she sang .'Old Macdonald' so I've added a YouTube video link so you can sing it too.

Can you remember when we hatched chicks, not so long ago? That was a really special time in Nursery.

Take care everyone and keep sending in your photos!

MORE IMPORTANT NEWS!

Date: 1st Apr 2020 @ 7:41pm

Another amazing learning opportunity from one of our children in Nursery. We are so very proud of her and thankful for her family's support.

Well done! Your message will be seen by many of your friends in school and it will make them feel very special and hopeful.

Mum says,

🌈💙

“When you are feeling sad look for a rainbow. My daughter is always happy when she sees a rainbow in someone's window and it gives her comfort to know her friends and teachers are thinking of her so she wanted to let everyone know she's thinking of her, all her friends and teachers and speaks about them every day. She misses you all very much.”

💜 We miss you too! We hope we will see you very soon 💜

Hello everyone, Mrs Ganner here again.

After exercising my body with Joe Wicks this morning and a walk out with my family to breathe some fresh air in, I've decided it would be good to teach you something new! Isn't that exciting.

We have been working hard over the year to strengthen our hands and to be able to use our fiddly fingers to manipulate objects and tools. One of those tools is a pencil. Use the pencil in your home learning pack and write on the back of one of the sheets or an envelope or any other paper you can find. Follow the show me video to learn how to do this and send me a photo of your learning so we can create a gallery of 😎 Handwriting Bosses 😎

Wellbeing challenge number 4

Date: 1st Apr 2020 @ 10:53am

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I don't know about you but 2 of my favourite things in the world that always make me feel good are animals and travelling. While I can't travel now, I thankfully have my 2 rabbits, Rupert and Angel, to keep me company at home. Here is a picture of them underneath!

So since I can't travel right now, or see any other animals, I am doing these things in a different way: by looking at this website all about wild animals around the world https://gowild.wwf.org.uk/

It has information and activities about lots of different animals from lots of different regions (Year 2, it has a section on Polar animals which would link nicely to your topic right now!) so you can virtually travel round the world. It even has drawing and photography competitions that you can enter and have your work appear on the website!

I particularly like this activity to make Amazon animal hand shadows https://gowild.wwf.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Amazon-hand-shadows.pdf (although I didn't have much luck trying to take a good photo of mine. Perhaps you can do better than me and send one to your home learning address?)

So your wellbeing challenge for today is to choose your favourite area or animal from the website or even complete one of the activities and send a picture or just a bit of writing about it to your home learning e-mail address if you would like to. Or pehaps enter one of the competitions on there and tell us all about it.

Rainbows 🌈

Date: 31st Mar 2020 @ 7:11pm

Exciting news everyone! The children of key workers who were in school today decided the rainbows we made in Nursery were so amazing that they wanted to make a huge one to put on the Doors at the entrance to our school too.  Don't they all look amazing! Make sure you take a look, the next time you're walking past.

If you have made a rainbow, send your photos in so we can put them on our blog.

See you all tomorrow

Wellbeing challenge number 3

Date: 31st Mar 2020 @ 10:49am

Hello everyone!

Today's challenge is something that I often enjoy doing when I'm feeling a little sad or worried about something.

Today I am challenging you to cook or bake something! If you can't do it today then why not plan something to make later in the week or even at the weekend?

Take a look at this website that has plenty of easy and healthy recipes to look or see if you can invent something that includes the contents of your fridge or cupboard https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes

Yesterday I made these cheese scones for me and my husband to have for lunch this week (they're not very healthy but they're very tasty and it's okay to have a little treat once in a while! cheeky)

Make sure you ask an adult to help you with any cooking or cutting and don't do anything before you check it's okay!

Have fun,

Mrs Glover

A big thanks to Miss Kenwell who sent me a picture of her sunshine yesterday (pictured below), she put my drawing to shame! laugh

Home Learning🌟

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 9:41pm

What a lovely surprise to come home to tonight. More home learning photos and 2 new requests for NUMBOT logins. This young learner has been so busy he didn’t even have time to get out of his pjs! What a great attitude to learning you have. Well done!

The tablet app looks very interesting. I’ve not seen that one before. What do you think he is creating on the paper plate ? I think it’s a beautiful, bright rainbow to make everyone in his family smile 😃

Keep sending your photos in. It really makes all of the teachers’ day to be able to see your photos

How to Draw a Gorgeous Garden

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 6:39pm

Hello again,

Mrs Ganner here.

Sorry I'm posting so late today, it's been a busy, busy day! I've been working with the children of key workers and one of the children created something so beautiful I wanted to create something myself. Hope my drawing inspires you too. I've included some photos of her work and then the show me video I created afterwards.

If you create a gorgeous garden please send a photo of your work to nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Wellbeing challenge number 2

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 11:44am

Today's challenge is to draw your own sunshine then in the middle of it write or draw all the things that make you happy.

I've done one if you would like to look at it for ideas (although your drawings may be a little better than mine! laugh) and have focused on all the things I can still do or see, even while we're in this strange situation smiley.

Stay safe everyone,

Mrs Glover

Weekend Home Learning Star!🌟

Date: 29th Mar 2020 @ 8:13pm

What a lovely surprise to receive some home learning photos and a video over the weekend. This time as well as the scavenger hunt, we have a great example of fabulous cutting skills. You can see how the scissors are being held pointing away and both thumbs are on top. Just like how we taught you to hold scissors in school. Well done!

Show your family how much you love them and say thank you by singing this song. can you remeber we learned it a few weeks ago?

A great big thank you!

Date: 29th Mar 2020 @ 9:55am

Hello children,

Mrs Ganner here. Hope you’re enjoying the break over the weekend. I forgot to say on Friday, you need to say thank you to your grown-ups for helping you this week. They’re not used to home schooling you and I think they’ve done a terrific job. Think of all of the things they have done for you this week and tell them, ‘Thank you for helping me with my colouring.’ ‘Thank you for taking me on a scavenger hunt.’ ‘Thank you for checking the blog every day with me.’  You can say thank you for everything your adults and big brothers and big sisters have done to help you this week.

Parents/Carers,

I would just like to say thank you too. Thank you for keeping in touch. Thank you for helping your children focus on the fun learning activities and thank you for being there for your children in these difficult times. You are truly amazing people.

Mrs Ganner

Happy Weekend

Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 7:53pm

It’s been a busy week on our blog. It’s been an unusual week for everybody. Well done to all of you for getting through it.

If you haven’t received your NUMBOTS login details remember to email us over the weekend and we’ll send them out. If you’ve already got yours we’ll be posting an update on Monday to see who’s played the games so far. Just 5 minutes a day to support your child's number learning is all that's needed.

Send your photos of home learning to:

nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Stay safe and look after each other. In times like these we need to focus on the good things.

Join in with this days of the week song to welcome the weekend! We’ll see you again on Monday.

The Learning Journey Continues 🌟

Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 7:43pm

This is the third day we’ve received photos from this exceptional young lady.  She clearly loves learning!

As a reward, Mum told me she was going to watch Peter Rabbit and eat some yummy treats. This was a well earned golden time.

Thank you so much to everyone in the family for supporting her and being part of the joy that is learning.

Health and wellbeing challenges from Mrs Glover

Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 2:59pm

Hello, Mrs Glover here!

I hope everyone is staying safe, having fun and working hard on your learning. I'm going to post a Health and Wellbeing Challenge every day for people to do if they choose to. I'll be doing them all too and posting pictures where I can. Please feel free to e-mail any pictures or comments to your home learning e-mail addresses!

Challenge number 1: Go on a mindfulness walk. Write or draw 5 things that you can see, hear, feel, smell or touch (make sure you have an adult with you if necessary and stay far way from people you may see when you're out, although you can still say a friendly hello!) You could even do this in your garden if you have one!

Here's a picture of my mindfulness walk that I went on at lunch time today!

I saw trees and water, I heard birds and rustling, I could smell different plants and I could feel the sun on my face :-)

Nature Counting Challenge

Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 2:46pm

Hello everybody, Mrs Ganner here again. This morning my children and I went for a walk in the local woods. We thought we'd make a quiz for you using the photos we took. You score 1 point for every correct answer and you're allowed a little bit of help. Write down how many you scored and send a photo to:

nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Counting Challenge

1.How many herons can you spot looking out over the pond?

2.How many children walking in the woods?

3.How many trunks has the tree split into?

4. Which group of 2 swam over to say hello?

5. Estimate how many streams of water are spilling over the edge of the waterfall.

6. How many pieces of wood were used altogether to build this fence?

7. Trickster alert! How many pairs of legs can you see standing next to each other?

8. Count the posts poking out of the water. How many are taller and how many are shorter? Which group has the most - the taller or shorter group?

9. Are there more than 6 steps snaking up the hill or fewer than 6?

10. Can you see 1 or 2 ducks on the riverbank?

Good luck and I hope to see your photos very soon.
