On Thursday 17th December we enjoyed Christmas lunch. We wore our Rudolf hats and used our Christmas placemats to put our lunch on. We ate turkey or Cheese whirls along with the usual traditional side dishes of roast potatoes, brussel sprouts, mash, carrots and gravy. It was delicious!!!
Thank you Alison and all the cooks in the kitchen:)

It's the last week of term and we're challenging ourselves to see how much of our learning we can remember !
Here's our capital letter challenge.
Date: 16th Dec 2020 @ 1:23pm
We have written some super non-chronological reports about an invention of our choice. We worked really hard on including additional information using parenthesis marked with commas or brackets, and making sure our ideas flowed well together using different conjunctions. We created our final versions using PicCollage so that they look like an authentic page from an information book! Check out some of our reports in the photos!

It's clear 5HW are a class full of budding engineers and architects!
We've had such a fabulous morning putting into practice all of the skills we've explored in order to create our bridges. Our design criteria was to make a bridge that was free-standing, had moving bascules and had a span of at least 0.5m.
The collaborative and teamwork skills were exceptional as teams of 4 worked together to make beam and shell structures, and create pivot points using skewers and screw eyes. What a brilliant time, check out our photos to see us working on our designs and our finished bridges.
You'll see EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US is on the Outstanding Star today!

CC - exploring beam structures
Date: 10th Dec 2020 @ 10:00am
It's an exciting morning in 5HW today - in preparation for our bridge building, we're exploring ways of securing cardboard to create strong beam structures. We already know that square and triangular beams are strong shapes, and we've worked out how many folds we need in order to create one side with two layers of cardboard so it can be secured. We're exploring using split pins, sellotape, glue and plastic screws to fix our beam structures into shape. We're also practising using a stanley knife (under extremely close 1:1 supervision!) in order to cut our cardboard neatly to size.
We're definitely feeling confident in knowing which way to turn a screwdriver to tighten or loosen a screw now...helped by the rhyme Mrs Hodges still says to herself: "righty tighty, lefty loosey". Does anyone else still say that?!
Date: 9th Dec 2020 @ 5:19pm
This week, year 4 have been learning how to divide using a numberline.
To start off this tricky piece of maths, we created a human numberline using a skipping rope! The children have worked super hard, and are now tackling difficult divisions in their maths books.
Can you use the steps to success to practice at home?
Date: 7th Dec 2020 @ 3:56pm
Here is the link to your homework for this week.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
Date: 4th Dec 2020 @ 1:28pm
Today we decorated our Christmas tree with our own handmade ornaments. We sang songs and danced together. They looked beautiful but we thought it needed a bit more shine and sparkle. Do you like the Christmas tree?
We also learned about the Nativity some more today. Last week we built our own small world nativities. This week we dressed up and performed it!
We love Christmas Celebrations in Reception.
Christmas has started in Nursery!
Date: 4th Dec 2020 @ 11:49am
This week in Nursery, we have been very busy taking part in lots of Christmas activities! On Monday, we had a visit from Santa's reindeers, who left behind two elves, Sparkles and Elfie!! Sparkles and Elfie have been keeping a close eye on us all week. We decided that it would be a good idea to draw pictures of the presents we would like to give to the Elves! Not only that, but our Home Corner turned into Santa's Workshop!! We have loved wrapping lots of presents for our friends in class! Take a look at the video below to see what Christmas fun we have been getting up to!
Date: 3rd Dec 2020 @ 3:22pm
This week Year 4 have been looking at newspaper reports. We have looked at the features of a newspaper report and identified what, where, when, and who to help us write an introduction for our earthquake report.

We're really enjoying our Dance this half term - the two main skills we're working on are 'mirroring' and 'retrograde'. We've explored mirroring side by side, facing each other (2m apart!) and in a line. It seems very easy when we talk about it, but making sure our movements are synchronised perfectly is much harder than we first thought! Retrograde is the dance technique of performing movements in reverse.
Our the next couple of weeks we'll be putting the final stages onto our dance which incorporates these two skills, and is inspired by Victorian transport inventions. For now, check out this video of a perfectly mirrored step which is aiming to give the impression of a steam train. Well done girls!
