This week, Year 4 have been reading a text about the Tudors called “Under the Rose”. There were lots of difficult words! First, we circled the words we didn’t understand, then we annotated them by writing notes about what they mean. Finally, we made a matching game to help us practise the new words. Super ideas, Year 4!

As part of science week we investigated circuits as part of our electricity topic. We worked out how the brightness of the bulb changed by increasing the amount of bulbs and batteries in the circuit…
Denico:
“First we made a simple circuit and then we added another bulb and I noticed that bulbs became dimmer. When we added two batteries and one bulb, the light was much brighter. “

We had such a good day for World Book Day, we shared our favourite books and characters with other children in school.
In our class we had a quiz to test our book knowledge. It was so much fun competing against each other. Each group did extremely well and got more than 10 answers correct. The winning team was the princesses and the hero! well done!

Today 2JB went to Beijing.
We all had boarding passes and travelled on a plane, we had to go through security and baggage claim. Once we arrived in China we had a guided tour around the famous landmarks of Beijing. We visited the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace and the Birds Nest Stadium. It was so much fun! We then took a quick flight home in time for our parents to pick us up at home time.

On Friday 16th March, Year 2 investigated what happens when you mix milk, food colouring and washing up liquid together.
Fist we carefully poured milk onto a plate.
Then we dropped different coloured food colouring on to the milk. We used orange, blue and pink food colouring.
Next we put a cotton bud the was covered in washing-up liquid into the centre of the plate.
Our Results
We observed how the food colouring moved around the plate when we touched the milk with the cotton bud. This is because the milk contains fat, the washing-up liquid bonds with the fat in the milk and the food colouring is pushed out because the bond is so strong.

In Year 2 we used our scientific enquiry skills to predict what would happen when we used food coloring in milk to make dancing fireworks. We investigated the impact of the amount of washing up liquid to really get things moving.

Well that was a very exciting trip to the farm. We fed the lams and petted lots of animals including a lama, some owls, rabbits and chicks. We then had some lunch and went to find out how the cow’s are milked. Did you know ice-cream is made from milk? We then went for a donkey ride and even had time for a tractor ride before getting the coach back to school. A lot of us were so tired on the coach that we fell asleep!

Today we planned an experiment to investigate the effect that different drinks have on our teeth.
First we cracked our eggs so that we could see the inside too and placed them into beakers. Next, we measured out 200ml of the different liquids. Finally we poured the liquid onto our egg shells and left them to soak on the windowsill.
Check back for updates to see if anything happens!
Date: 16th Mar 2018 @ 9:01am
We have been learning about Mayan food in our Connected Curriculum lessons so today we had a go at making some of our own!
We learnt some new baking vocabulary and techniques including ‘rubbing’ and ‘kneading’ and we practised our measuring skills too.
