Today the children wore red and took part in lots of different red activities to launch our new story. The children explored the red messy play, made marks in the red glitter, poured the red water, rolled the red play dough and took part in many more red activities!
The children arrived at school wondering what our new story would be. We can now reveal it is... Little Red Riding Hood! It is one of my favourite traditional tales and I am sure the children will enjoy it just as much as I do!

The children were very excited to create a face on our pumpkins and watch as Miss Powell carved it. Everyone was brave enough to put their hands inside the pumpkin and pull out some of the insides!

Today the children have been looking after Miss Fowler’s woodland animals. They have been building houses for them and keeping them safe and warm.

Our connected curriculum topic this term has been 'Incredible Me'
We have been busy learning about lots of different things including all about our body parts and where we come from.
We have made a big 3D map which we would love you to take a look at if you're lucky enough to come into our classroom.
The sound collector has been to year 1!

The sound collector has been to year 1 and has stolen lots of our sounds!
He threw away a poem as he was running away because he doesn't like poems. We have been really worried that the sound collector might steal more sounds from our school so we have decided to make a poem so our sounds are safe. Here are a few lines that we have written from our very own independent poems...
The dripping of the glistening raindrops
The stamping of the smelly feet
The chatting of the noisy children
The flushing of the dirty toilet
The barking of the loud dog
The banging of the heavy door
We have also been saving our big n
umbers from the sound collector (he likes stealing those too)
We have been collecting part whole models and making them into addition number sentences.
We hope we have done enough now to save our numbers and sounds from the sound collector!

This week the Nursery children have been around the school grounds on an Autumn walk. They have enjoyed looking for the different signs of Autumn and talking about it with their friends.

We are so impressed by all the children this half term because you have worked with such focus and enthusiasm. Tomorrow is our last school day before half term.We hope you have a safe and relaxing holiday and we will see you on Tuesday 30th October.

We have been visiting the library in our key worker groups. We have walked sensibly through the school, followed the library rules and looked at different books. We have been making sure we are holding the book the correct way around, turning the pages carefully and looking at the pictures to help us to tell the story.

We had such a brilliant visit to Quarry Bank Mill at the end of September. We learned so much about what it would have been like to work in a cotton mill, and it was an amazing opportunity to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere, dress up and do some role play. It's helped us be better historians and better writers back at school too!

This week we got to play a game where you had to say what you did during the holidays using the past simple. We played four-in-a-row. Well done to all our players!

This week, we tasted different foods to help us think of words to use in our descriptive writing. Some foods were sour, some were salty, some were bitter and some were sweet. The Marmite smelt very strong so we only tasted a little bit of it. Our favourite foods were sugar and lime – delicious!
Reading and building sentences

We have recently been working on reading and building sentences with pictures and high frequency words.
We read the sentence on the board and found the words/pictures in the tray…
…then we put them in the right order…
…next we brought the sentence over to check…
…and finally we checked our skills against the success criteria!
We did some good looking, good pointing, saying what you see and going back to check. Great job!

This week, Year 6 have been reviewing their understanding about the Blitz.
First we looked and some pictures and had a discussion about what we think happened. We were able to use and practise our pronunciation of some new vocabulary, such as “Luftwaffe” and “Anderson shelter”.
We also matched some pictures and captions to consolidate our knowledge.
We did it! Well done, Year 6!

This week, Year 2 started working on animals in preparation for next term’s topic.
First, we counted the number of syllables on our fingers…
…or by clapping…
…and then we sorted the animal names into syllable groups.
We even fed the “box monster” some animals. Sometimes the box monster wanted 2-syllable animal names and sometimes it wanted 3-syllable animal names. What a hungry box monster!
Later in the week, we segmented the animal names by moving our hands to help us with our spelling.
Super work, Year 2!
