Our Bridge Experience

Date: 15th Jan 2020 @ 8:47pm

During our topic 'why does the world need great inventions?' year 5 created bridges with moving parts.

We then shared our bridges with Year 4, where they were able to pretend to be ships to test if our bridges created enough space for them to pass under! Year 5 were also tasked with explaining how they created their bridge, while using subject-specific vocabulary. Year 4 learnt a lot!

It was a wonderful experience, and all children involved loved sharing their amazing ideas.

Bridge Building!

Date: 15th Jan 2020 @ 8:43pm

A visitor visted Year 5, and taught them how to make these wonderful bridges! They used cardboard, screws, string, eyes and screw drivers to create their designs.

Each bridge was able to move, and they could carry a weight of 500g!

It took half a day for children to create their bridges. It was very exciting!

What do you think of Year 5's wonderful bridges?

Non-Chronological Reports (Part 3)

Our final non-chronological reports!

Non-Chronological Reports (Part 2)

Date: 15th Jan 2020 @ 8:32pm

I couldn't fit all of the wonderful non-chronological reports onto one blog!

Here are some more.

Non-Chronological Reports (Part 1)

Date: 15th Jan 2020 @ 8:27pm

Last half term, the children completed their own research on different inventions. These varied from Victorian inventions, such as the printing press, to more modern inventions such as video games.

They used their information to create non-chronological reports, which they then transferred to pic collage.

I know that I learnt some new facts from reading these, did you?

News reporters!

Date: 15th Jan 2020 @ 11:10am

We have been working hard all week as journalists writing our first drafts of a news report about the declaration of war by Neville Chamberlain in 1939. Proof reading our own writing is a very difficult skill but we have worked in pairs to support each other in the process and we found it very useful. Mrs Ranyard was really impressed with how we supported each other- Great teamwork!

"I was able to make sure my work was clearer to read." Stevie and Morgan

The Storm Whale in Winter

Date: 14th Jan 2020 @ 11:05am

This week in our literacy learning, we discovered a message in a bottle... It was from Noi! He told us to look out for his storm whale and kindly left a book to read! We have written lists, messages and dialogue in speech bubbles linked to the text!

Spring 1

Date: 14th Jan 2020 @ 10:56am

This half term in Reception, we are thinking about the question, 'How do I get by with a little help from my friends?' This week we have been talking about our best friends, drawing pictures and writing sentences about what our friends do to help us! Check out our new friendship display!

Up periscope!

Date: 13th Jan 2020 @ 10:05pm

We have been studying how light travels in our science topic and we have created some cool periscopes to demonstrate how light can change direction using mirrors. We had a lot of fun making them and camouflaging them so we could use them to look out of our "Anderson shelters" as part of our WWII topic! Check out our brilliant periscopes in action! Is it safe to come out yet?

Welcome to the history channel!

Date: 13th Jan 2020 @ 12:27pm

Good afternoon and welcome to the history channel.  This is 3RH reporting on The Stone Age!

Today we acted as reporters and archaeologists. We interviewed each other on a specialist subject to do with the Stone Age.

Stone Age research

Date: 13th Jan 2020 @ 12:23pm

We've been really interested in finding out about the Stone Age since coming back after Christmas! In particular, we have been looking at Stone Age houses/shelter, tools, hunting/gathering, cave paintings and clothes. Here are some pictures of us researching those topics.

Finding out about the Stone Age

Date: 13th Jan 2020 @ 12:08pm

In English, we are writing our own non-chronological reports about the Stone Age. We shared our expert knowledge with some reporters. They asked lots of interesting questions.

Biscuit Homes

Date: 13th Jan 2020 @ 11:37am

For the launch of our Stone Age topic we made Stone Age homes. We used biscuits to make the homes which was very tricky as the biscuits didn't balance.

Past and present tense verbs

Date: 10th Jan 2020 @ 3:20pm

Year 4 have been sorting past and present tense verbs from their Earthquake topic. They did a great job!

Is a balloon alive?

Date: 10th Jan 2020 @ 8:11am

Have a look at the science problem below that 5HW are currently discussing. What do you think? How do you know if something is alive?

Biscuit Building!

Date: 10th Jan 2020 @ 8:05am

For our Connected Curriculum launch, we made Stone Age houses out of biscuits and icing sugar. It was lots of fun but also really tricky which made us admire how much hard work it must have taken to build houses back then without the bricks and materials we use today.

Our Earthquake Survival Documentary

Date: 20th Dec 2019 @ 12:09pm

For our earthquake experience, we created earthquake survival documentaries. We wrote a script and filmed it using the Ipads. We then showcased our documentaries to Miss Bryce's class. We really enjoyed it!

Christmas Lunch!!

Date: 19th Dec 2019 @ 8:12am

We are having our Christmas Lunch!!! It was delicious!!

Like or dislike ?

Date: 18th Dec 2019 @ 5:15pm

One of newest Year 6 children  learning to use the language of likes and dislikes. It's great to be able to express your opinion!

Designing and building bridges!

Date: 17th Dec 2019 @ 10:12pm

We had an incredible morning putting all our D&T knowledge into practice as we designed and made a bridge, as part of our "Inventions" unit this half term. With Mark, from The Learning Partnership, as our guide, we worked in role as engineers who were comissioned to invent a prototype for a bridge over the canal - the design had to have a span of at least 1 metre and be able to move so that it opened for boats to still be able to travel along the canal. We used hinges, pivot points, counter balances, triangular beams, cantilevers...the language and skills applied were fabulous! We also really used our learning powers - lots of co-operation and resilience were needed!

Check out our photos (and a little video!) to see!

Christmas Party Day

Date: 17th Dec 2019 @ 8:52pm

We had a fantastic time today at our Christmas Party. We played pass the parcel, musical statues, musical bumps, corners and we even had a go at following some dance moves online! Who knew in reception we had a group of children with great dance moves that included the floss and hype!!

We ended the afternoon tucking into some party food. Yum, Yum!!!

The Gingerbread Man

Date: 17th Dec 2019 @ 8:48pm

In our classroom we discovered a 'crime scene.' In this crime scene we saw some objects that helped us to find out what our next story was going to be about. We saw some recipe books, apron, chef's hat and flour. Our next story was all called 'The Gingerbread Man.'

The Wriggly Nativity

Date: 17th Dec 2019 @ 4:06pm

Take a look at some of our pictures from the 'Wriggly Nativity' performance. Reception children worked incredibly hard to put on such an amazing show! What superstars!

Christmas Party Day

Date: 17th Dec 2019 @ 3:53pm

Today we had our Reception Christmas Party! Reception children had lots of fun playing pass the parcel, Christmas corners, musical bumps, musical chairs and musical statues! We also had a fantastic Christmas buffet! Thank you to all parents and carers who contributed!
