On Sudden Hill Hook

Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 7:27pm

On Monday we found 3 boxes in our classroom. We became 'Super Helper Detectives' and began to look for clues inside and under the boxes.

We found pictures of three boys, a book and a letter from someone called 'Birt.' After some detective work and completing some reading challenges we found out that the three boys were best friends who loved to play with boxes. However, one of the boys became unfriendly and we started to think about how to be a good friend in our circle time sessions.

Parent Vocabulary Stay and Play

Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 7:10pm

This morning Reception children invited Parents/Carers into our classroom to show how we learn new vocabulary linked to our topic or story of the week. It was great to see so many parents getting involved in the activities. We started by teaching parents our Word Rap and then had a range of activities that supported children in learning vocabulary with some links to our phonics teaching.

Why don't you do the word rap at home using the link below...?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=428l9PIED_I

The words we have learnt so far are...

flickering, belonged, rescued, dwellers, pirate, dragon slayer, astronaunt, dragged, crunched, cracked and pirate.

Looking forward to our next Stay and Play next half term!!

Words, words, words

Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 6:57pm

It was lovely to see so many parents at the vocabulary workshop in Reception this afternoon.

The children used their phonic knowledge to read words, some words were really tricky but they didn't give up. Everyone deserved their smelly stickers (even the grownups!).

In year 4, we have been learning about the Tudors. This week we started a new text in our reading and writing lessons. We have been reading , ‘Tudor Boy Spy -The Secret Diary of Thomas Snoop’ and we have really been enjoying it. We found out that the word ‘bobolyn’ is a Tudor word for idiot!!

Speaking Superheroes receive a challenge!

Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 2:59pm

Today we received a mystery parcel! Around the outside there was a letter and in the letter there was a challenge. The Superheroes told us they knew we were Speaking Superheroes but so everybody knew this we should make capes. On our capes we drew pictures and symbols and our teachers wrote lots of interesting words. Our grown-ups helped us think of these words when we were playing with them this morning.

When we were making the measures cape one of the children matched the Bears from our cottage to the symbols on the cape. 'This one's tiny like the tiny words' Daddy Bear is MASSIVE like that one.'

Our capes look amazing! We are going to use them when we are playing with our friends in the classroom.

IT'S A BEAR!

Date: 30th Jan 2020 @ 8:53pm

Would you like to come on a hunt with us?

Today in school we found a book that had been hidden in the classroom. We've been exploring our indoor and outdoor classrooms lots recently but we'd not seen this book before. Have you?

The book is by an author called Michael Rosen and we already love this book. To watch the author read it Click here

Walking through the grass and stumbling through the forest!

Date: 30th Jan 2020 @ 8:38pm

In our garden we found some more places to explore. We had to be careful that we didn't fall over! It's tricky walking around logs that look like trees.

All of these places we discovered today made us wonder why. We've been learning about bears, so what could the connection be?

'bear, forest, grass, water, snow, mud'

Do you have any ideas?

How do I get to ....?

Date: 30th Jan 2020 @ 10:33am

Year 6 have been looking at the language of directions. We have been following directions to find places around the school and writing our own directions for other people to follow.

Ask us for directions next time you see us !

Exploring settings... Outdoors!

Date: 29th Jan 2020 @ 3:00pm

We went on a settings hunt in the outdoor area... we found trays of water and a picture of a river!

We dipped our fingers in the water and gently moved our fingers through it "splash splash!"

"I can make waves, I moved my arms to make waves."

We looked at the picture of the river "The water looks deep!"

Ew! What is it?

Date: 29th Jan 2020 @ 2:33pm

We found the tray with signs all over it that said, 'Please do not touch.' There were wellies and shoes and aprons too. We had to work out how we could play with the toys without touching.

Can you think how to do it?

Look at the pictures to see how we were able to play without getting messy. The children said, 'It's sticky and muddy and it's yucky.' 'Stick, squash.' 'Squish, squelch.'

Exploring Our Classroom - It's snowy!

Date: 29th Jan 2020 @ 2:21pm

We're going on a settings hunt. We're going to find new ones. Tiptoe, tiptoe...

Look what we found today in our classroom! The children touched the snowy shaving foam, moved it around and then they told us what it feels like. 'Snow like cream' ' Round and round. Wooooooo' 'Squish, squash'  ' I think it's like shampoo'

It's messy playing with shaving foam so you have to wear an apron and remember, 'It gets on your hands and it comes through your fingers. Then you have to wash your hands.'

Chinese workshop

On Tuesday 21st January 2020 we had two special visitors into school called Michaela and James. Michaela taught us how to do a dragon dance because we have been learning all about China and Chinese New Year.

I didn't actually know how to do a dragon dance but I do now! Tiwan

I enjoyed it because I really like to dance and it was a new style of dancing for me. Millie

I enjoyed it because I had fun. Neila

Then we went to a ceramic plate painting workshop with James. He taught us how to paint a plate with a dragon and it said Happy New Year on it!

I enjoyed it because we got to paint dragons and we painted a border around it. Payton

My favourite part was when we painted the body of the dragon. Mubaraq

I enjoyed it because we had to paint very neatly so you could still the dragon. Lacey

Freeze Frames

Date: 25th Jan 2020 @ 8:26am

Miss Wendt challenged 5HW to create a group 'freeze frame' to depict a different stage of a human life. Each group had to keep their stage secret, MIss Gallery and the rest of the class had to guess each one!

Can you guess?! The different stages are newborn, toddler, child, adolescent, adult and senior. Which image matches each stage?
