This afternoon we had our Connected Curriculum experience where we tested the Year 4's on their rock knowledge! We recorded questions and answers on iPads then showed them to the Year 4's after they had a guess. It was great being able to share what we have been learning about with other children.

Today we met our reading buddies!
This afternooon, Miss Bryce's Year 4 class came to visit Reception and shared their favourite book with each one of our children! After half term, we will regularly be reading together and sharing stories!

We completed a mini Olympics this morning as our experience to complete our Ancient Greeks study. We had such fun throwing a javelin, shot put and discus, and did our best leap for the long jump!
We're analysying our results tomorrow to see who won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place...but safe to say, it was a close competition!

For our experience in the connected curriculum, we created our own quiz about rocks. We used our prior knowledge and filmed the questions and answers on ipads. We then went and asked the questions to year 4 to see what they could remember from last year.

The children really enjoyed visiting Clayton Hall last week! They all got the opportunity to wear victorian clothes and spend time experiencing what it would be like to be a child in the victorian times.
The children were very busy in the house.
They made tasy pies in the larder and made some delicous soup in the kitchen. The children made sure that the butter was the right shape and the vegetables were all chopped.
The children then made sure that all of the clothes in the wash house were washed and ironed. They had to use all of their stregnth to squeeze all of the water out of the clothes using the old victorian mangle.
After the children had worked hard to make sure that the house was clean and the food was cooked, they had time to relax and play with the old toys and games in the living room and bedroom.
Finally we all sat down to a big meal of chicken and sprouts in the dining room whilst listening to William and Graces beautiful piano melodies.
The children loved their afternoon at Clayton Hall and are eager to return!

We met our Reading Buddies today!!!
Mrs Ratcliffe's Year 4 class are our reading buddy class this year. This afternoon we met our buddy and got to know them. After the half term we will regularly meet them and share some wonderful stories.

This morning, after register, one of the children noticed something in the classroom. We thought it was one of the teacher's boxes but they said it wasn't theirs. It had an address label on it that said it had been posted to our school. We guessed what could be in it 'a car' 'a (com)puter' 'I think it's an umberella.' 'I think there's nail varnish in it. About 500.' 'I think there's a dice in the box cos the box is massive.' How many? '10' 'A big Daddy bear in the box.' ' I think a Mummy.' 'I think it's a big tub of slime in the box.' ' I think it's a tiger. A big tiger.'
Mrs Ganner put her hand in the box to find out what was in it. One of the children asked,'What do you feel?' and another added,'Is it hard or soft?'
After a few clues and more guessing we finally found out that there was a bear, collander and some wellies in the box. We knew these were objects from one of our favourite stories. Not all of the props were there though, so Miss Heritage wrote a list of objects for us to find. We've already found one!

Using the language of instruction.

Some of Year 6 have been investigating how to use the language of instruction by putting the verb at the beginning of the sentence.
Here are some of the children following instructions on how to mix secondary colours and my attempt at following their written instructions to make a paper aeroplane . The instructions were so good, the plane actually flew!

Shada received the learning award last week for always putting 100% effort into her learning and being enthusiastic in her lessons. Isaak won the behaviour star for being a super role model in class. Well done Shada and Isaak.
Regular and irregular past tense

This week Year 2 have been learning about regular and irregular past tense verbs and what the differences are. It was a bit tricky but they did really well!

This afternoon was such a special time for us in Nursery and Year 3. We met our reading buddies for the first time ever. It was great sitting, reading and talking about books together. We can't wait for the next time!

The children have been trying to learn and remember as many new words as they can this week. They have been using the word aware rap to help them remember some of the vocabulary from their English lessons.

The children really enjoyed visiting Clayton Hall this week. They all got an opportunity to dress up in victorian clothing and experience what it would have been like to live in victorian times.
Some of the children got busy in the kitchen and used an antique food chopper to cut carrots and herbs to make vegetable soup.
It was a team effort !
Some of the children had tougher jobs to do than others and had to use all their energy to wash, dry and iron clothes in the wash house.
After all the hard work the children relaxed . They played card games, chess and used the writing table.
Some of the children thought there was a pigeon in the room because they saw a feather in the table. They found out that people used quills to write in victorian times.
The children didn't want to leave and asked to go back. The staff at Clayton Hall said "We would love to see all the families visiting the hall ."

This week I received an email form Darren at Southport Eco centre about our year 3 pupils who visited on Wednesday. Read what he had to say;
"Dear Mrs Hughes,
I am writing following the visit from your Year 3 classes here at the Eco Centre today. It was an absolute delight to meet and deliver our stone age topic to your children!
Behaviour and attitude to learning was first rate throughout the entire day and it was lovely to see them so supportive of each other throughout all the activities. Also a special call out to your staff who clearly have an excellent relationship with all the children and got as stuck into the activities as they did, fantastic ambassadors for your school and your wider school community.
Your school is welcome back here anytime :)"

Mrs Ganner held an assembly this morning, where she set a challenge for children to 'find their anchor'. This involved learning some mindfulness strategies for breathing - which will help us focus and remain calm.

As part of our connected-curriculum, 'Why is Dina Asher-Smith famous?' , Year 5 have been learning about Ancient Greece and the Olympics. Using our knowledge of Ancient Greece, we learnt that the Greeks used clay to make different types of tiles and pottery.
We combined our knowledge of Greek design, and the Ancient Olympics, to create our own relief tiles, depicting an Olympic Sport.
We can't wait to show you our final designs in our class assembly on Friday!

Yesterday, Ravensbury celebrated 'inside out day.' We all wore an item of clothing inside out, to remind everyone that even if we look great on the outside, we may not feel great on the inside.

We have been listening to stories and singing songs about feelings since we started in Nursery. It's important to know how to recognise the feelings we experience.
As part of Children's Mental Health Week, we came to school today dressed with our clothes inside out! Inside Out Day is a day where we learn to talk about our feelings. To stay healthy we know that we need to care for our minds as well as our bodies.
We played a game rolling emotions balls to each other and saying when we felt those emotions. Then we created our own emojis and emotions faces to create a display in class. Our teachers wrote what we said on the speech bubbles next to the emotions faces. Then we chose some of our favourite activities to play with in class. " I love this! I'm just so happy" said one of the children as they played together.
Can you guess what emotions we were learning about? Our teachers haven't put the emotion word cards on our display yet. Come in to class to see what they are tomorrow if you can't work it out from the faces we drew.

We celebrated Children's Mental Health Week by wearing our own clothes Inside Out!! We listened to the story 'The Lion Inside' and discussed the word 'Brave.' We talked about things that we have done that made us feel scared but after doing it made us feel brave.

Today children dressed up in their own inside-out clothes to celebrate Children's Mental Health Week. This year's theme was 'find your brave.' In Reception, we talked about bravery, listened to the story 'The Lion Inside,' and talked about times where we ourselves have felt brave. Here are some pictures of the children's work!

On Wednesday 5th February we went to the Blue Planet Aquarium. We had a fantastic time looking at all the animals that live under the sea and learnt lots of new facts about some of the animals. Did you know that an octopus has 9 brains, one in each tentacle and 3 hearts that helps it to stay alive...!!! We watched some divers feeding the rays and swimming with the sharks. This was a little scary!! It was an amazing day!!

This week in Reception, we went on a trip to Blue Planet Aquarium! Children had a fantastic time visiting the aquarium and exploring all different kinds of sea creatures! We even had the opportunity to watch an underwater scubadiving show, where we were able to meet the divers and see the sand tiger sharks have their lunch! We ended the day with a walk through the incredible underwater tunnel! As you can see below, children were exhausted after a day of such fun!

We have spent some time writing a new labour for Heracles this half term - the children each invented a mythical creature, and created a story around Heracles and their fearsome monster. The final versions of their myths were absolutely wonderful to read, and each and every child worked incredibly hard to write with imagination and detail.
