We had a brilliant time taking part in a special wellbeing session today! We were given 10 challenges to attempt, some of which were quite easy, some of which seemed impossible! Here's a taster of some of our challenges:
* Rolling a ball into a specific area
* Keeping two balloons in the air for 30 seconds
* Testing the speed of our hands by swapping coloured balls from one box to another in as short a time as possible
* Passing a ball to each other with our eyes closed
* Memory test to see if we could remember where particular picture cards were when turned over
During the activities, we were encouraged to think about how we felt - we were pleased and proud when we completed a challenge, but it could feel quite frustrating when we had to keep on trying and not always succeed. We talked about the importance of perseverence and resilience, especially when we try new things, and thought of strategies we could use to help us develop these skills. What an important message!

After looking at the information poster yesterday and watching the eggs, we now think there are chicks inside the eggs. Mrs Ganner checked on them early this morning and there is still no sign of pipping. We are hoping our little friends will begin to hatch soon.

A Midsummer Night's Dream Drama
Date: 25th Feb 2020 @ 4:14pm
This half term, we are reading a Midsummer Nights Dream. The aim of our writing, is to create a emotive diary entry from the perspective of one of the main characters (Hermia, Helena, Lysander, Demetrius, Oberon or Titania).
Today, using drama, we chose our character and created freeze frames of the point in the story we will focus on. We focussed on our expression, and the class were able to successfully guess which emotion we were trying to portray.
Can you guess our emotions and character?

This week we worked with the artist. We discovered that many artefacts left behind from the Romans had images of peacocks on. We practiced line drawing and using oil pastels to create patterns inspired by peacocks. Here is some of the work we created. Next week, we will be turning our designs into a textile.

Look at what came into class this afternoon!
Peter came into school from Living Eggs and he delivered some very special visitors. Eggs!
He put some water in the bottom of an incubator and plugged it in to make it warm in there. Then he added some eggs. Do you know what is going to happen?
Come in to class to watch what happens. We'll be posting videos to keep you updated.

Today we discovered an egg in our new play space. "Ooh 1 giant egg" said one of the children.
🎶 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
What's in the egg?
What's in the egg?
Ee- igh - endio
What's in the egg?
🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
We thought about what could be inside it and here are some of our ideas:
" I think it's a crocodile." "I think there's a chicken in the egg." "I think it's a tortoise and it's sleeping in the egg."
We realised that if something was inside the egg we need to tell visitors the rules of being in our classroom which are, "Please don't touch and please be quiet" so we can stay safe and we can be kind to what's in the egg.
We have a display up near the eggs of the things we think might be in the eggs.

As part of the guided reading sessions this week the children were asked to read instructions on how to make a cup and ball game. The children read the instructions -step by step and used the collage materials from the creative area to make the game. Some of the words were really difficult to read so the children had to use their knowledge of alternate sounds to try and make sense of the words they were reading.

We had our first VIP Parent Session today. Parents and carers were invited to come and have a look at their child's observation journal online. They were able to look at the observations with their children and talk about the learning that has taken place so far this year. It was lovely to see the grown ups and their children talking and discussing whilst looking at the photos and videos online.
We will continue to have these sessions over the year so all parents and carers have the opportunity to look through their child's observation journal online.

In Spanish, 5HW have been learning how to ask how to find different places in a town (ciudad). In order to help us remember the names of different places, we designed our own town maps!
Can you find una playa? Una iglesia? Una piscina?
If you want to practice your Spanish over the half term holidays, remember our important phrases -
¿Tu ciudad tiene un banco? - Does your town have a bank?
¿Hay un supermercado aqui? - Is there a supermarket here?

Janelle received the learning award this week for being a supportive member of the class. She is always the first person to congratulate someone for their achievements. Alex won the behaviour star for showing a huge improvement in the choices he is making. He is starting to really focus during lessons and his understanding has also improved massively as a result. Well done Janelle and Alex.
