In Year 2 we used our scientific enquiry skills to predict what would happen when we used food coloring in milk to make dancing fireworks. We investigated the impact of the amount of washing up liquid to really get things moving.

We were allowed to bring in our toys from home as part of our Connected Curriculum topic ‘Toys Alive!’
It was the best day ever! We got to play with our friends toys and had so much fun. We decided which toy was our favourite and took a picture using the camera. We then made a pictogram to see which toy was the most popular toy in our class.
Science Week: from Egg to Chick

For Science Week Nursery have had the joy of watching Egg’s hatch and grow in to Chicks. We have all been fascinated by the process and have loved holding and looking after the chicks as they grew.

Well that was a very exciting trip to the farm. We fed the lams and petted lots of animals including a lama, some owls, rabbits and chicks. We then had some lunch and went to find out how the cow’s are milked. Did you know ice-cream is made from milk? We then went for a donkey ride and even had time for a tractor ride before getting the coach back to school. A lot of us were so tired on the coach that we fell asleep!

Thanks to everyone for your efforts making bonnets for the Easter parade. The children all enjoyed singing, making baskets and especially making Easter buns.

Each week an artist comes into school to work with different year groups. This week it was y4’s turn and they started to make sculptures inspired by an American artist.

We had a lot of fun explaining our learning from this half term to Year 3. It was great to be able to teach them everything we had learnt about the Mayans and to give them an idea of what they might be learning next year!

Today we planned an experiment to investigate the effect that different drinks have on our teeth.
First we cracked our eggs so that we could see the inside too and placed them into beakers. Next, we measured out 200ml of the different liquids. Finally we poured the liquid onto our egg shells and left them to soak on the windowsill.

We have been learning about Mayan food in our Connected Curriculum lessons so today we had a go at making some of our own!
We learnt some new baking vocabulary and techniques including ‘rubbing’ and ‘kneading’ and we practised our measuring skills too.
We think they look great! They tasted pretty good too!

This term we have been learning about animals and habitats. We have been reading ‘The Animals of Farthing Wood’ together in class.
We made our own finger puppets based on an animal from Farthing Wood.
We then created a play-script in small groups and then presented these to Year 3!

This week we are going to be moving on to our new topic ‘The Vikings.’ We are going to be learning about who the Vikings were, where they were from and what they looked like as well as lots of other interesting facts.
On Thursday we are having our ‘launch’ to introduce our new topic. All of the children are going to be Vikings and experience what tough, exhausting work they had to face when trying to move to new land. We are going to be working outside as a team and try to row our ships from Scandinavia to invade Britain….HOW EXCITING.

Today we had a very exciting and informative day, learning all about how to lead a more healthy lifestyle.
In the morning, we became ‘Drink Detectives’ and explored how much sugar was in some of our favourite drinks. We were very surprised with some of the results!
We also got to do some exercise and dancing with Mrs Howse and Mr Carley.
Miss Warner taught us some yoga moves. We struggled at first but we got the hang of it! We were very surprised at how difficult it was, and how tiring!

This half term we are looking at The Water Cycle. We are learning how important water is to us and we are wanting to find out the answer to this question ‘How would we survive without water?’ Why don’t you have a look at the water aid website and see how water affects us in our every day lives.

Year 4 would like to thank all of the parents/guardians who came to watch our fashion show on Tuesday. It was a great performance by everybody and all of the adults and children alike seemed to really enjoy the show. A big well done to all of the children for taking part. You were all amazing.
This is our last week in school before we break up for two weeks holidays. We hope you all have a well deserved break and enjoy your time off.

Last Thursday, 3rd March, was World Book Day. It was celebrated by pupils and staff coming to school dressed as one of their favourite book characters. Everyone made a fantastic effort and looked brilliant.
The children took part in lots of different activities throughout the day based on reading. All of the children, and staff, had a fantastic day.

Easter Parade/ Year 4 Fashion Parade

This week in Year 4 we have been looking at animal patterns. We have learnt, in great detail, about animal habitats and now we have moved on to looking at animals distinctive patterns. We wondered why each animal has the particular pattern it has.
On Tuesday 29th March at 2:45, we are holding a Year 4 fashion exhibition to show off our very own animal patterns we have recreated. We would love for all of our grown ups to come along and enjoy our performance with us.
On Wednesday 23rd March, we are celebrating Easter at Ravensbury. we are having an assembly and parading all of our wonderful creations. we have had lots of entries from our class and we are all very proud of our hard work

On Monday 29th, we had a very exciting visitor in year 4. ‘The Wild Road Show’ came with lots of animals and creatures to show us. We had the chance to hold ‘Rio’ the snake, ‘sally’ the giant snail and a tarantula called Rosie.
We all had a fantastic time and learnt so much about how to care for and look after each animal.
