Egg Update

Date: 26th Feb 2020 @ 7:39am

After looking at the information poster yesterday and watching the eggs, we now think there are chicks inside the eggs. Mrs Ganner checked on them early this morning and there is still no sign of pipping. We are hoping our little friends will begin to hatch soon.

Flippin' Marvellous

Date: 25th Feb 2020 @ 4:24pm

Today we had lots of fun flipping pancakes in construction crate mazes, designing our favourite fruity fillings for pancakes and then making and eating them! What a lovely day we have had celebrating together!

Visitors!

Date: 24th Feb 2020 @ 3:58pm

Look at what came into class this afternoon!

Peter came into school from Living Eggs and he delivered some very special visitors. Eggs!

He put some water in the bottom of an incubator and plugged it in to make it warm in there. Then he added some eggs. Do you know what is going to happen?

Come in to class to watch what happens. We'll be posting videos to keep you updated.

What's in the egg?

Date: 24th Feb 2020 @ 3:53pm

Today we discovered an egg in our new play space. "Ooh 1 giant egg" said one of the children.

🎢 🎢🎢🎢🎢🎢🎢

What's in the egg?

What's in the egg?

Ee- igh - endio

What's in the egg?

🎢🎢🎢🎢🎢🎢🎢

We thought about what could be inside it and here are some of our ideas:

" I think it's a crocodile." "I think there's a chicken in the egg." "I think it's a tortoise and it's sleeping in the egg."

We realised that if something was inside the egg we need to tell visitors the rules of being in our classroom which are, "Please don't touch and please be quiet" so we can stay safe and we can be kind to what's in the egg.

We have a display up near the eggs of the things we think might be in the eggs.

We love our grown-ups so this is what we did...

Date: 13th Feb 2020 @ 6:50pm

πŸ’—Our grown-ups are so special, we thought we'd surprise them for Valentine's Day. We sang a song and had photos with them in front of our love display πŸ’—

Thank you to everyone who could stay and watch us sing

Parent/Carer Surprise!

Date: 13th Feb 2020 @ 3:43pm

Tomorrow morning we'd like you to come in to school because we have 3 surprises for you!

It should only take about 15 minutes for those of you who need to rush off to work, but anyone who wants to stay a little longer, you're welcome to do so.

Look at the photo for a clue about what we have been doing today - maybe you'll understand more tomorrow ...

It's a box!

Date: 11th Feb 2020 @ 10:27am

This morning, after register, one of the children noticed something in the classroom. We thought it was one of the teacher's boxes but they said it wasn't theirs. It had an address label on it that said it had been posted to our school. We guessed what could be in it 'a car' 'a (com)puter' 'I think it's an umberella.' 'I think there's nail varnish in it. About 500.' 'I think there's a dice in the box cos the box is massive.' How many? '10' 'A big Daddy bear in the box.' ' I think a Mummy.' 'I think it's a big tub of slime in the box.' ' I think it's a tiger. A big tiger.'

Mrs Ganner put her hand in the box to find out what was in it. One of the children asked,'What do you feel?' and another added,'Is it hard or soft?'

After a few clues and more guessing we finally found out that there was a bear, collander and some wellies in the box. We knew these were objects from one of our favourite stories. Not all of the props were there though, so Miss Heritage wrote a list of objects for us to find. We've already found one!

Watch this space to find out what the story is...

Reading Buddies Rock!

Date: 7th Feb 2020 @ 7:37pm

This afternoon was such a special time for us in Nursery and Year 3. We met our reading buddies for the first time ever. It was great sitting, reading and talking about books together. We can't wait for the next time!

Inside Out Day - February 6th, 2020

Date: 6th Feb 2020 @ 6:27pm

We have been listening to stories and singing songs about feelings since we started in Nursery. It's important to know how to recognise the feelings we experience.

As part of Children's Mental Health Week, we came to school today dressed with our clothes inside out! Inside Out Day is a day where we learn to talk about our feelings. To stay healthy we know that we need to care for our minds as well as our bodies.

We played a game rolling emotions balls to each other and saying when we felt those emotions. Then we created our own emojis and emotions faces to create a display in class. Our teachers wrote what we said on the speech bubbles next to the emotions faces. Then we chose some of our favourite activities to play with in class. " I love this! I'm just so happy" said one of the children as they played together.

Can you guess what emotions we were learning about? Our teachers haven't put the emotion word cards on our display yet. Come in to class to see what they are tomorrow if you can't work it out from the faces we drew.

Can you tell me the story?

Date: 5th Feb 2020 @ 10:55am

This morning we used the pictures and dressing up props to talk about what happened in the different parts of the story, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'

Can you work out which parts of the story we are talking about by looking at the clothes we are wearing?

Speaking Superheroes receive a challenge!

Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 2:59pm

Today we received a mystery parcel! Around the outside there was a letter and in the letter there was a challenge. The Superheroes told us they knew we were Speaking Superheroes but so everybody knew this we should make capes. On our capes we drew pictures and symbols and our teachers wrote lots of interesting words. Our grown-ups helped us think of these words when we were playing with them this morning.

When we were making the measures cape one of the children matched the Bears from our cottage to the symbols on the cape. 'This one's tiny like the tiny words' Daddy Bear is MASSIVE like that one.'

Our capes look amazing! We are going to use them when we are playing with our friends in the classroom.

Speaking Superheroes

Date: 30th Jan 2020 @ 8:58pm

Notice for Parents/Carers:

Remember to come in to class tomorrow during morning jobs time to talk to your children who are our 'Speaking Superheroes'.  They've been working really hard to develop size and shape and texture vocabulary over the last few weeks.

After talking to you they're going to complete a challenge fit for a superhero. Can you guess what it might be?

IT'S A BEAR!

Date: 30th Jan 2020 @ 8:53pm

Would you like to come on a hunt with us?

Today in school we found a book that had been hidden in the classroom. We've been exploring our indoor and outdoor classrooms lots recently but we'd not seen this book before. Have you?

The book is by an author called Michael Rosen and we already love this book. To watch the author read it Click here

Walking through the grass and stumbling through the forest!

Date: 30th Jan 2020 @ 8:38pm

In our garden we found some more places to explore. We had to be careful that we didn't fall over! It's tricky walking around logs that look like trees.

All of these places we discovered today made us wonder why. We've been learning about bears, so what could the connection be?

'bear, forest, grass, water, snow, mud'

Do you have any ideas?

Exploring settings... Outdoors!

Date: 29th Jan 2020 @ 3:00pm

We went on a settings hunt in the outdoor area... we found trays of water and a picture of a river!

We dipped our fingers in the water and gently moved our fingers through it "splash splash!"

"I can make waves, I moved my arms to make waves."

We looked at the picture of the river "The water looks deep!"

Ew! What is it?

Date: 29th Jan 2020 @ 2:33pm

We found the tray with signs all over it that said, 'Please do not touch.' There were wellies and shoes and aprons too. We had to work out how we could play with the toys without touching.

Can you think how to do it?

Look at the pictures to see how we were able to play without getting messy. The children said, 'It's sticky and muddy and it's yucky.' 'Stick, squash.' 'Squish, squelch.'

Exploring Our Classroom - It's snowy!

Date: 29th Jan 2020 @ 2:21pm

We're going on a settings hunt. We're going to find new ones. Tiptoe, tiptoe...

Look what we found today in our classroom! The children touched the snowy shaving foam, moved it around and then they told us what it feels like. 'Snow like cream' ' Round and round. Wooooooo' 'Squish, squash'  ' I think it's like shampoo'

It's messy playing with shaving foam so you have to wear an apron and remember, 'It gets on your hands and it comes through your fingers. Then you have to wash your hands.'

Do you know what a Bolang gu is?

Date: 24th Jan 2020 @ 3:49pm

We found out that a Bolang gu is a Chinese pellet drum which is a traditional instrument. We created our pellet drum using tubes, plates and beaded string. Take a look at how we made ours. Can you make one at home too?

We also practiced writing Chinese numbers. One of the children said, 'This one looks like a man jumping!' When they saw the number 6.

PARENT CHALLENGE: If you can draw a Chinese number at home and bring it in to school, your child can have a house point.

The dragon is complete!

Date: 24th Jan 2020 @ 3:44pm

This morning we received a note from the dragon. He wanted us to make him a body! He left us a box of resources but no instructions so we had to work it out for ourselves.

First we had to make the scales, painted with Chinese numbers and words. Then we had to make a body by stuffing scrunched paper into a pair of tights! (We think the dragon used his mum's tights). After that we used the stapler to join the ends of the paper plate scales together. Finally our teachers joined the scales together and onto the body because that part was too tricky for us.

It's been such hard work making him but we loved it. Miss Wolfenden said, "Wow, it's amazing!" when we showed it to her. Look at the surprise on her face.

Assessing our learning

Date: 24th Jan 2020 @ 7:41am

We have been thinking very hard about what we are learning and we have been using our Red Amber Green (RAG) rhymes to help us. Look at our smiling faces- we love to RAG!

I'm on red. it's much too fast. I need some help in the class.

I'm on amber, can't you see? I need a friend to help me.

I'm on green. I feel OK. I'm ready to learn, hip, hip hooray.

It's good to know where we are so our teachers can help us practice and then move on to the next steps in our learning.

Chinese Dragon Dance

Date: 24th Jan 2020 @ 7:34am

Earlier this week we went into the hall to listen to some Chinese music. We responded to the music by moving our bodies which meant we could create our own class dance. We hope you think we look like a wiggly dragon snaking around the hall!

We put the movements in order and then repeated them. Wiggle down, wiggle up, wiggle side to side, wiggle fingers ...

Chinese Dragon Scales Painting

Date: 20th Jan 2020 @ 1:53pm

Today we started learning about Chinese New Year. We found a dragon's head but he didn't have a body! We decided to make some dragon scales with Chinese writing on them and soon we will make the scales into a long, wiggly dragon body!

3 Furry Visitors

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 12:00pm

Some bears appeared! Then a letter, then lots of objects. Some were big, some were middle sized and some were little. Can you guess who we are learning about? Look at the last picture if you haven't worked it out yet.

I Can Do It!

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 11:26am

Over the last term at school we have been learning how to be more independent. We are remembering to do things for ourselves but sometimes need a little bit of help. It makes us feel proud when we are independent.

So our grown ups know what we can do for ourselves, we told them about a story book we have read. It's called 'I Can Do It!''. EVERYONE GOT A BOOK TO TAKE HOME TOO! (We also gave our grown-ups a leaflet with pictures in it that we can use at home.)

When we have learned a new skill we sing a special song ' I can do it, hip hooray'. Sometimes we sing, 'I need to practice every day.'

Learning takes time. It's fun to be more independent.

Party Time!

Date: 17th Jan 2020 @ 11:16am

Our Christmas party was so much fun! We played pass the parcel, musical statues (look at the cool dude prizes won by the children haha) and ate the food that our grown-ups brought in. After a busy day that was full of fun, we turned the lights out and watched a movie - The Snowman. This made us feel calm, ready to go home after the best day ever.

It was a lovely day and we looked super smart in our party clothes.

Happy Christmas everybody
