It's Friday! Phonics and sentence of the day

Date: 3rd Apr 2020 @ 9:41am

Good Morning! It's our last day of our home learning blog before the Easter holidays!

Don't worry grown ups I will be posting some fun activities that you can be doing over the holidays just in case you need a few ideas :)

In case your legs are aching(I know mine are!) and you can't quite manage the full Joe Wicks workout, here's a quick 5 minute move for you...

Sentence of the day

With is being almost Easter here's an Easter themed sentence of the day for you. The Easter Bunny has stolen all of the interesting words in this sentence and he's hidden them inside his Easter eggs! Can you guess which words are winning? There will be a special shout out to anyone who manages to figure out the words!

Phonics

Today's phonics focuses on our vowel families - a,e,i,o,u

Today we are just focusing on the igh and the oa family...

There are lots of ways to make the same sound. In the childrens home learning packs there are worksheets to support you with these sounds. You could also play games of I spy and ask the children to try the alternative spellings and find out which spelling is the correct one for the object. There are also some word card in your packs, encourage the children to read these words - this doesn't have to be a sit down activity though, get moving! The children could play hide and seek the words, relay races whilst reading the words or musical bumps - read a word when the music stops.

English writing

Last week you wrote the story of the Naughty Bus.

Hopefully this week you have made your own special transport using the wheels and axles, if not nows your chance!

Your writing challenge today is to plan your own story all about the things that your transport gets up to. It could be a Naughty truck or even a kind car or a brave bus. It's up to you, be inventive!

In your packs you have your own story mountain, your challenge is to think about what happens in the beginning, problem, resolution and ending of your story. You don't need to write your whole story just notes so that after the Easter holidays you can write your story.

Some of you might want to plan your story by telling it to your grown ups. You could film this on your ipad and send it into y1homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk so that everyone can see your amazing ideas!

We hope you've had a great past two weeks of home learning. Now it's time to celebrate all that you have done!

Hope you all have a lovely Easter Breaklaugh
