Staying safe online

The internet is amazing and going online is great for lots of reasons and whilst off school children will be accessing alot of their learning online so  it is important to be aware of the dangers and learn how to keep children safe online. We would just like to remind you that the permitted minimum age to use some social media  sites is at least 13 and could be putting children at risk.  Please make sure you know what your child is being asked to do online, including the sites they are asked to access and be clear who your child is going to be interacting with online.

Talking to your child – openly and regularly – is the best way to help keep them safe online

  • Ask them to tell you about the sites they like to visit and what they enjoy doing online.
  • Ask them about how they stay safe online. What tips do they have for you, and where did they learn them? What is OK and not OK to share?
  • Ask them if they know where to go for help, where to find the safety advice, privacy settings and how to report or block on the services they use.
  • Encourage them to help. Perhaps they can show you how to do something better online or they might have a friend who would benefit from their help and support.
  • Think about how you use the internet as a family. What could you do to get more out of the internet together and further enjoy your lives online
