Curriculum Workshop

It was lovely to see so many of you at the curriculum workshop this morning. I hope you found it useful and know a little bit more about the broad and balanced curriculum we offer the children here at Ravensbury. Here is a taster of what we talked about.

What is a curriculum?

The term curriculum refers to the lessons and academic content taught in school. The curriculum also out lines the knowledge, skills and understanding which the children will learn.

Primary schools are required to teach the National Curriculum, but this is only  one part of a school’s curriculum. Pupils need to be taught PHSE (personal, health, social emotional) education and religious education. They need opportunities to develop positive attitudes to learning, be adaptable and flexible learners who are determined and not afraid to take risks. They should have an awareness of themselves as learners; knowing what their strengths are and what areas they need to develop.

A well designed curriculum should enable pupils to

Be healthy
Be safe
Enjoy and achieve
Make a positive contribution
Achieve economic well being

It should meet the needs of current and future generations

Please find attached the National Curriculum Guide for parents.
