Y3 visits Nursery for World Book Day
Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:28pm
During our world book day celebrations, year 3 visited Nursery to share some stories.
The year 3 children created their own picture books, which they brought with them to Nursery. They then showed these to the children, and talked through the story. The children loved hearing all of the different stories shared with them.

Today has been very exciting, because we have been celebrating World Book Day!
Year 3 have been extremely busy.
We read our focus text 'Flotsam - David Wisener' which is a story with no words. Inspired by this, we decided to create our own picture books. Some children used inspiration from writing they had written earlier in the year, and others created entirely new stories.
We then used wooden spoons to make puppet characters. Some of these were based off Flotsam (such as fish or sea creatures) and others were based off our World Book Day costumes. These are going to be in our reading corners and on display in our shared areas.
Throughout the day, we were also able to share stories with a range of people. We shared stories in the hall with our grown ups, we visited Nursery to share our picture books, and Mrs Bennett (Cruella De Vil) and Miss Cope (the Cat in the Hat) visited our class to read their stories.
It was an exciting (though tiring!) day. We can't wait to do it all over again next year.
World book day! Get comfy and read!
Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:21pm
Today we spent time with our grown ups in an extended Morning Job reading some of our favourite stories.
We wore comfy clothes or came dressed up as our favourite book characters.
We decorated a wooden spoon of our favourite character from some of our key text we have done across the year! They now live in our reading area!
We also had a visit from year 3 and shared stories with them.
Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 4:03pm
Year 5 had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day! Some amazing costumes, teddies and comfy clothes and it was nice for everyone to be able to take the time to enjoy a good book. We had a book share with children from Year 1, explored Flotsum and created our own idea of what the story might be with partners and decorated spoons with our favourite characters. It was lovely to spend the last part of the day sharing books with our grown ups in the hall too.

Happy World Book Day!
Today has been an amazing day in 2AH, celebrating 'World Book Day' by getting comfy and taking part in lots of reading activities. During the morning, we went into the hall to share some of our favourite class stories with our adults and teachers. The children were so excited and happy.
After this, we came back to class and started our story spoons. In 2AH we love Julia Donaldson stories so you will be able to see a theme.
We also looked through the book 'Flotsam'. The book has no writing so it was really lovely to see the children using their comprehension skills to look at the images and discuss what is happening. As the book shows us so much of our beautiful sea life and oceans, we decided to make 'Save our Oceans' posters.
Finally, the children enjoyed spending some time with their book buddies in Year 6. The pupils from Year 6 sat with the children to read and discuss different stories.
It is so wonderful that the children in 2AH have such a pleasure for reading and talking about the different books that they have read. Remember that the children's home reading and shared reading books are changed each Friday so please take some time to read with your child each day after school.
Our royal crowns
We also made our 'Queen Victoria' crowns in art this week, all ready for more of our history learning. The children used the skills they practiced last week and also used lots of different materials to design. Take a look at their amazing creations!
Have a lovely weekend!
Miss Hindle.

This week we had our launch lesson for our exciting geography topic this term - Andalusia! The children had a look at some videos of this beautiful area in Spain and we discussed all the things Andalusia is known for including bull fighting. The children then got to follow along with some beginner flamenco videos and test out their dancing skills - with costume props of course! They enjoyed it so much that they asked to practice some more once they had their coats ready for home time.

Welcome Back to spring 2 term in 1AI!
What a busy start to the term we have had! On Wednesday we had a visitor called Alison who came into school. She set up a Toy Museum in the hall and took us around four rooms. We saw some teddy bears, moving toys, dolls and an imagination room. We learnt lots of facts about each type of toy and used some drama to tell stories linked to the toys. It was lots of fun!
Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 2:34pm
This half-term, year 3 are learning all about plants in Science.
To begin our topic, we asked the question 'what do plants need to grow?'
We completed some research that showed us they needed air, water, space, light and soil...but we wanted to test if this was true or not.
We have now set up an experiment, where we have planted 6 different basil seeds. In each plant pot, we have removed one of the different things that plants need. We have also planted one seed that has air, water, space, light and soil so that we can compare.
We will water them (apart from the one where water is removed!) each day, and see if the basil plant grows or not.

What a wonderful first week back!
Maths
This week in Maths we have started our shapes unit. The children have started to recognise, name and describe different polygon shapes. We went on a 'polygon hunt' around our classroom and outdoor area where the children worked together to take photos and describe the different real life polygons. Take a look at some of our photos below:
History
In history this week, we launched our new unit 'What did Queen Victoria do for us?' We started our launch with our art objective to make our own paper crowns. This week, the children spent time designing their own crowns and practiced their own paper scissor skills such as zigzags, curling and fringing.
English
With our Queen Victoria launch in history, we have started to look at non-chronological reports all about Queen Victoria's life in English. This week, the children identified the features of non-chronological reports and worked together to find these in different reports such as information booklets. On Thursday, we had our 'ideas party', the children worked with their table buddies to write the different question sub-headings that they could use in their reports.
PE
We had an amazing PE session with Coach Amy on Tuesday. This half term, the children are working on their throwing and catching skills. This week, the children used tennis balls to practice how we can throw up and catch a ball, cupping our hands and holding the ball close to our hands to protect it.
Date: 27th Feb 2025 @ 11:09am
This week we have launched our new topic -Would you rather play with toys from the past or toys from the present?' We are already very excited about this topic because we LOVE to talk, play and learn about TOYS!
On Wednesday, we had a very exciting morning because a visitor came and shown us her Toy Museum! We saw lots of intersting toys form the past and the present. The visitor told us many interesting facts about how the toys had changed over time and what materials they were made from. We also had lots of fun using our imagination to become toys ourselves and even invent toys of our own!
In our writing lesson, we will be writing a recount about what happened when we went to visit the Toy Museum so that we can tell our parents all about it!
We are absolutely, amazing at generating adjectives!
Date: 24th Feb 2025 @ 12:55am
Hello,
In English, we have been generating adjectives to describe a setting. We have been learning about Wuhan in China and have been using adjectives to describe what we would see, smell and hear. We used the adjectives to write descriptive sentences. Our ideas were absolutely, amazing!
We put all our ideas onto our Working wall and used them to help us write descriptive sentences.
Date: 24th Feb 2025 @ 12:39am
Hello,
The children have been working hard to remember their 2 times table. They have counted in steps of 2 using fun songs to help them recall the number facts. They have used the maths area in the classroom to help them group objects into 2's. They have enjoyed exploring the patterns that they can see and use this to sove multiplication equations.
This class just love to count!
Date: 24th Feb 2025 @ 12:29am
The children have been learning about Wuhan and its location in relation to where it is in China and in the world. As part of the launch the children found out about some of the traditions in China, how Chinese New Year is celebrated and had lots of fun making masks and puppets. look at some of their work!
As you can see they had lots of fun!

On Friday, Year 3 spent the day completing a Design and Technology project.
Our design brief was: The first Pharaoh, Narmer, has tragically died. We need to design and build our own pyramids to bury him in and to show the Egyptians how their pyramids should be built. Remember our pyramids need to be as special as he was!
It was a very difficult project, because the pyramids needed to be self-supporting, strong, have an entrance, and traditional Egyptian features.
We spent the day practising how to fold nets, how to strengthen card and paper with laminating, corrugating and ribbing techniques, and designing our pyramids. In the afternoon, we begun to make our final pyramids.
Pharaoh Narmer would have been proud! The final pyramids were fantastic, and we were all very proud of our creations.

Today we spent time with the people we love in an extended Morning Job.
The children sang along to 'Dream a Little Dream of Me' by The Mamas and The Papas and the adults were so impressed with them. A huge round of applause and then on to a craft activiity. Together, they created collage hearts before the adults wrote beautiful messages of love to the children. After a photo in the love booth, the adults waved good bye.
It was such a special time to share with our families. All of the staff had a tear in their eyes as they reflected about how supportive our parents and carers are. Thank you for coming
Date: 13th Feb 2025 @ 12:21pm
This week we completed our Design and Technology project all about Wind Vanes. We looked at how weather can be measured and started to look at wind vanes in more detail. We looked at their purpose and what they needed in order to show the wind direction. We discussed what an axle was and how it could be used to create a wind vane. We designed the top of our wind vane, made it and evaluated it outside in the playground. We quickly realised that the top of the design shouldn't be too large and the cup needed to be attached securly on the paper plate!

We have really enjoyed reading Michael Morpurgo's amazing book about a boy called Michael who sails around the world with his parents and finds himself falling overboard and washed up on a deserted island- but is he really alone? What a fantastic adventure- we have enjoyed every chapter in this brilliant book and we are looking foward to watching the new animated film version as a treat this week for all our hard work preparing for our SATs! Well done Year 6!
Date: 13th Feb 2025 @ 12:02am
We have been very busy this half term learning lots of different calculations with fractions.
Click the link below to play a game to practise adding and subtracting fractions.

Here is our Spring 2 Parent Overview. Have a look at the exciting topics we will be exploring next half term.
Does the rain fall the same amount around our school? - continued!
Date: 9th Feb 2025 @ 9:06am
After 1 week we measured the amount of rainfall collected in our 3 rain gauges! We were very excited to find out if they had collected the same amount or which one had collected the most.
The results showed that rain gauge 3 in our garden area had collected the most rain with a measure of 40ml! The other rain gauges had collected less than 10ml! We explored why this is and we thought that it was to help the plants grow!
Children's Mental Health Week and Amazing Designs!
Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 3:53pm
Hello!
This week has been Children's Mental Health week where we have explored the theme 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself'. The children discussed how they can learn more about themselves and what makes them the person that they are. We discussed that all of us are different. We have our own qualities, talents, thoughts, opinions and personalities. This is what makes our world a wonderful and diverse place. By developing our self-awareness, we can identify and understand how we feel in different situations. This can help to build resilience and confidence. We took part in 'Place2Be's' Inside Out themed activities, creating memory boxes where the children had an opportunity to write their memories and store them inside. We then watched the 'Inside Out' film during Golden Time and discussed the different feelings and thoughts that we have.
Artists in the making!
In preperation for our recount writing next week, we made Chinese New Year dragon hats in design and technology this week. This is also linking to our learning of Wuhan in China and the different celebrations they have compared to Manchester. The children used oragami style techniques to make their dragon face templates and then designed these using lots of different materials. They even practiced their sewing skills and used a needle and thread to make their dragons nose!
Home Reading
Myself and Miss Imran have been really impressed by all of the children who have been reading at home and having their reading records signed. 'Oscar the Reading Owl' has been to lots of houses over the past couple of weeks and we have seen such an improvement in a lot of the children's reading in school.
We do ask that you spend time to listen to your child read every night and log this in their home reading record.
Have a lovely weekend :)
