KS1 Wacky Rockets Exhibition

Date: 17th Mar 2024 @ 10:14am

Adam from Sublime Science finished off Science Week with KS1. He put on a exhibition in the playground all about how to create some rockets using fizzy water, a pump and mentos sweets. He used different sized bottles and changed the amount of mentos sweets that went into the fizzy water to see how far each rocket would go. Some rockets went out of our school playground!!

It was so much fun!!!

We are Scientists!

Date: 17th Mar 2024 @ 10:09am

Last week we celebrated British Science Week which had the theme of 'Time' this year. We started the week thinking about the idea of time and how we use it for lots of different things. We discussed how we can measure time and learnt how to use timers on the IPADs. We conducted some time challenges where we investigated the following activities:

  • How many star jumps we can do in 30 seconds.
  • How many times we can write our name in 30 seconds.
  • How many many times we can say the alphabet in 30 seconds.
  • How many blocks we can use to build a tower in 30 seconds.
  • How many counters can be picked up with tweezers in 30 seconds.

We also had some science workshops by a company called 'Sublime Science' who came into school last Thursday and Friday. They were led by Dr Adam who conducted lots of experiments and we made some slime. We had so much fun!

We are Scientists!

Chinese Workshop

Date: 17th Mar 2024 @ 12:31am

This week the Parents/ Carers were invited into school to take part in a Dragon Making Workshop. The children and adults were asked to use a range of joining techniquesto attach boxes, card, paper, tubes, and straws together to create a dragon body and head. Then, they used paint and collage material to decorate their dragons. They worked hard as a team and both Mrs Cooper and I were proud to see all the children listening to each other, taking turns, sharing resources and helping each other. It was truly lovely to see. After the children completed their dragons they were asked to perform a dragon dance.

Look at their learning !

Shape Sorting

Date: 17th Mar 2024 @ 12:02am

The children have been matching, identifying and naming 2d shapes. They have enjoyed using the mathematical language sides, vertices, straight, curved same, different, Polygon, regular, irregular and equal to describe the properties. They have used venn and Carroll diagrams to sort the shapes according to a given criteria. They enjoyed generating their own criteria to sort shapes and playing games where they have to guess the criteria. They found it a bit tricky but Mrs Cooper and I were super proud of how hard they worked.

All about Wuhan

Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 11:44pm

This half term the children are learning about the topic 'Where would you prefer to live; Wuhan or China?' The children have been learning about the continent Asia, The country China, the city of Wuhan and the Hubei region. As part of the learning the children have been using maps and globes to locate Asia and the country China. They looked closely at aerial photographs and maps to identify the human features in Wuhan. They have been using geographical words such as mountains, rivers, hills, coast, sea, oceans and forests to help them describe what they can see. They looked closely at images of Wuhan and used them to create and label models of some of the landmarks.

We are Researchers!

Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 11:16pm

The children have really enjoyed finding out about hot and cold places and using a range of research techniques to find out about different animals and the habitats that they live in. The children used google, images and books to find out information and use it to write non-chronological reports. Mrs cooper and I were so impressed. All the children displayed a real interest in their learning and motivated each other to complete tasks. They all agreed that this topic was one of their favourites!

Look at the concentration on their faces!

Grouping fun!

Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 10:47pm

In Maths, the children have been learning about making groups. They have been looking at objects and then sorting them. They have then counted the objects in the groups and have used the mathematical words equal and unequal to describe if the quantities in the groups are an equal amount. The children have used this knowledge to solve practical problems and have worked collaboratively as a team to help each other.

It was lovely to see the children using the outside area to work mathematically!

Penguin Art

Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 10:23pm

In Art, the children have been learning how to sketch penguins. They have been using continuous line to draw an outline and then looked at the different shapes they could draw to create the head and body. Then they used the side of the pencil to shade parts of the body. The children then used this knowledge to create a 3d display of penguins.

Science week & Red nose day!

Date: 15th Mar 2024 @ 3:50pm

We have had a brilliant science week, 4AK's favourite part was making slime, have a look at the attached pictures.

For red nose day, we created our own unique red noses for the school councillors to judge on Monday, have a look at a few fantastic entries.

Have a good weekend!

Nursery Red Nose Day!

World Book Day in 5HC

Date: 15th Mar 2024 @ 2:09pm

Last week at Ravensbury, we celebrated World Book day. The staff in year 5 came in dressed as characters from our current text - Toro! Toro! It was lovely to see the childrne in costumes celebrating their favourite book characters and others who came dressed for a comfy day of reading.

We began the day by moving all the tables and chairs to the side of the room to make space for lots of arts and crafts! We made book characters from cardboard tubes, including an excellent superhero and cats. We then went downstairs to take part in a parent session of get comfy and read. Thank you to all the parents who joined us. We even saw some groups of chidlren reading to one another which was really heart warming to see.

We also visited year 1 to share some books with the younger children. 5HC always impresses me by their ability to think from the younger children's points of view. They are calm and welcoming and are very happy to read to little ones and engage them as best they can.

Many of the children began the day saying they don't enjoy reading but I think we might have been able to change their minds!

Reception have had a very busy week! We celebrated science week with a fun and messy workshop by Sublime Science. We got to make slime and even take it home! We ended our science work celebrations by learning about the seasons of the year and creating our own seasons wheel to show what we learned.

We also enjoyed our CC learning where we explored the works of Andy Warhol. We used stencils and colours to create our own pop art with paint and crayons.

It was busy, busy, busy, but lots of FUN!

World Book Day in Year 3

Date: 11th Mar 2024 @ 7:56am

On Friday, year 3 celebrated World Book Day!

We begun the day by inviting parents and carers to the hall, to join us in reading lots of different stories. The children loved being able to share their favourite story with the different grown ups.

When we returned to class, we began a puppet challenge - we had to use a cardboard tube, paper and felt tips, to create different animals from the Kapok Tree - which we studied in the Autumn term.

The day ended with a visit to Nursery. We were able to share a story with the nursery children, and listen to a story together. We really enjoyed spending time with different children.

Attached are some photos of our wonderful day.

World Book Day in 1AI!

Our grown ups came in the afternoon to share some stories. It was great to see them all enjoying reading for pleasure with their child. In class we used the story 'Where the Wild Things are' to create some clay wild thing faces, we wrote some alternative versions of the story and drew some wild things on a forest background. We also created some book characters using a cardboard tube and craft materials. Phew! We did a lot!!

It was an amazing day focussing on reading for pleasure and understanding the enjoyement reading can bring to our learning.
