12th June #30DaysWild - Challenge 12 🌳

Date: 12th Jun 2020 @ 8:02am

Hello again!

I wonder who will go wild today to find their nearest tree. Will there be a mass of Y5 wildlife wardens invading Clayton green spaces to hug a tree or will it be Year 2 that aces this challenge?  I look forward to finding out.

I’m going to look for a really old tree. Make up your own challenges over the weekend and discover what is outside your door then send the photos in to me.

9th June 30 Days Wild - Challenge 9

Good morning,

Today sees a challenge that we should do every day. Litter is a big problem for wildlife. It can hurt them and so I’d like to see if you can pick up litter to make your area tidy and safe for the animals that live close to us.

  • DO NOT pick up anything that could hurt you.
  • ALWAYS do this activity with an adult.
  • WEAR protective gloves if you have any.
  • USE a litter picker if you can.

Send me your litter picking photos in to:

nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Have a great day

From Mrs Ganner

Daily Update:

We’ve had some amazing photos in from children in the Foundation Stage. Look at how happy they are looking after the wildlife they have found. They are being really careful too. Read what they say about their learning:

‘We have been out in the parks and garden looking for wild life. We saw some ducks with babies and a spider in the garden. We also have 3 snails which we look after and feed them every day.’

‘This is my friend the worm. I have been watering it and feeding it. Worms don't have any legs because they wiggle.

You really are ‘Wonderful Wildlife Wardens’

Tuesday 9th June Padlet Home Learning

Date: 9th Jun 2020 @ 8:27am

Good Morning Reception,

We have some very exciting news to share with you this morning. All our home learning has been moved to the website called Padlet which you can access using the link below:

https://padlet.com/receptionhomelearning/aoa3g857pv0vxpre

Each day we will remind you on the class blog page and we will give you the link to the padlet page with the day’s work on it.

The padlet page design is very easy to follow and use. It is organised in columns which you can scroll down to see the information for each section. The columns start with ‘Hello Reception’ and end with ‘Useful websites.’

When you click on a resource it will enlarge and you will be able to download and print it out if you wish to or just use it on the screen of your device. When you click on a video you will be able to play it using full screen.

We hope you like padlet as we think having everything on one page will be easier than scrolling through all the blogs on the class pages. We will continue to post our weekly celebration blog on Fridays. Watch the video at the bottom of the blog showing you how to use the padlet page.

Monday 8th June - Maths

Date: 8th Jun 2020 @ 9:04am

Good Morning Reception! J

I hope you have had a lovely, restful weekend and are ready for a week full of learning!

Let’s warm up for today’s maths learning by completing a fluent-in-five! Make sure you write them down and keep them safe, as tomorrow I will be posting the answers!

z

This morning we are going to be learning how to count in twos!

When we count in twos, we skip some of our numbers to help us to count quicker, identify patterns in our numbers and learn greater mathematical concepts!

Take a listen to ‘Jack Hartmann’s ‘Dancing 2s’ count in 2s’ video below to begin!

Today, we are going to practise this by beginning to recognise objects in pairs which will help us in counting in 2s forwards and backwards.

You will need:

Obvious pairs of socks and gloves, and some odd socks

2 Number Cards (see attachment)

100-square (See attached)

Lay the socks/gloves out onto the floor or workspace. Look at all of these things. Today we are going to make some pairs and you will be learning to count in twos.

What is a pair of something?

Things make pairs because they match and have the same colour or pattern. Your first instruction is to find the pairs and identify the odd socks!

How many things make up a pair?

There are two objects in a pair. For example, we have two feet, so we need two matching socks.

Can you count the pairs? How many pairs of socks do you have all together?

Now, let’s count the socks in ones. To make counting quicker, we’re going to practise counting in twos. Point to each pair as you count, 2, 4, 6, 8…etc

Adults to extend the counting to twos to about 10 or 20 and support children in learning to recite these numbers!

Can you link the chant to numbers on the 100 square? Point to them as you count!
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20!

Using the number cards, can you match the numbers (in 2s) to each pair like the pictures below?

At the bottom of this blog, I have posted links to a 100-square and number cards to support the activity above. I have also posted some more activities linked to counting in twos if you would like an extra challenge!

Please send in pictures of your work, or even just to tell me how you found your maths learning today! I can’t wait to hear from you! Enjoy!

Monday 8th June Reading

Date: 8th Jun 2020 @ 8:30am

Good Morning Reception,

Here are the answer’s to last Thursday’s Sentence of the Day…

I need a shower because I fell in the mud.

Today’s sentence of the day is…

Mi dad gave me sum coyns so I went two the shop.

Last week we read the story ’10 Little Pirates.’ Today I want you to start by playing 'one word' with someone in your house. How many things can you think of about pirates? How many pirate words can you think of in 1 minute...? Use the word mat below to help you.

Activity 1 - Today I want you to practise your reading skills. I want you to read the sentences about pirates and see if you can draw a matching picture.

Activity 2 - Your next challenge is to read the mixed-up sentence and put it back together again so that it makes sense. Then I want you to write the focus word, draw a picture about the sentence and then practise writing the sentence.

Extra challenge – can you make up another muddled-up sentence about pirates and write it on scraps of paper. Give it to someone in your house to put the words in the right order so that they make sense. Good Luck!

Monday 8th June Phonics

Date: 8th Jun 2020 @ 8:22am

Good Morning Reception,

I hope you have had a lovely weekend, even though the weather was a little bit wet!

We are going to start our phonics with the new Tricky word song. Sing along with it below.

Today we are going to learn some new Phase 4 tricky words – do, some, come, little.

In Phase 4 we have learnt the tricky words – said, have, like, so, do, come, some, little. Use these tricky words to play the games below:

Play splat the tricky word – write the above tricky words on scraps of paper and spread them out. Your grown up will say a word and you must splat it.

Quick write – Your grown up will say a tricky word and you must write it without looking at the list.

Our new sound today is ‘oi.’ Watch today’s video at the bottom of the blog.

Look at the pictures and words on the poster, which ones can you read?

Here are today’s practise and apply activities, which one will you choose?

Activity 1 – Label each picture with the ‘oi’ word.

Activity 2 – How many ‘oi’ words can you think of in a minute?

Activity 3 – Play Buried Treasure with the ‘oi’ words.

https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/buried-treasure

Activity 4 – Read the ‘oi’ words on the balloons and pop them.

30 Days Wild - Weekend Challenges 🐞🐛🐝🕷

Date: 5th Jun 2020 @ 3:02pm

Well done to Honour and Jola for finding this fabulous centipede! It’s safely back outside now. Well done for ‘Going Wild’!

If any of you want a wild weekend then here are two more challenges:

Challenge 1: How do I know it’s a centipede and not a millipede? CLUE: The answer is NOT to do with the number of legs it has.

Challenge 2: Bugs shouldn’t be living in your house so why not make them a hotel in your garden? Stack wood and tubes and crates to make a bug hotel this weekend. Then watch them set up home in all the nooks and crannies. Bugtastic!

Send your answers to my home learning address:

Good Morning Ravensbury,

It’s the end of our first wild week. I’ve spoken to a few of your grownups about what they have seen and done this week. Did anybody find a minibeast in their house yesterday? Send in photos of your minibeast encounters so we can put them on the blog. Here’s today’s challenge:

Whatever WILD THINGS you see today write down a list and send a photo of what is in your local park or back yard or garden. Let’s work out what kinds of wildlife are living in and around Clayton.

Send your photos or short videos in and I'll put them up on our school blog

Friday 5th June Challenges

Date: 5th Jun 2020 @ 7:57am

Ahoy Reception Mates!!!

This half term our Friday challenges are going to be a little bit different. We are going to set you a list of 6 activities that you will have to complete over the next 6 weeks. Each Friday you will pick one activity on the challenge sheet and complete it. You don’t need to do all 6 activities in one day, you will complete them over the next 6 weeks. We wonder which challenge you will pick first…?

Watch the video at the bottom of the blog where we are explaining each activity. We have also attached the challenge sheet along with some ideas and information to the blog.  For more ideas visit the Cbeebies Pirate section that has lots of games, shows and ideas to help you with your Friday  challenges.

Special Treasure Chest Hunt

Date: 4th Jun 2020 @ 9:16am

Ahoy me hearties!

Who would like to take part in a special treasure hunt?

For this activity, you will need to use your egg carton treasure chest (please refer to the ‘Treasure Box Craft’ blog) or you can use an empty box!

In this activity, you first have to find lots of different items and materials to fill your chest. Can you find…..

An old CD, shiny ribbon, aluminium foil, small mirror, key, glass bead, wood/natural materials, wooden brick, bark, twig, shell, leaf, feather, pebble, net, velvet, lace, wool, fur, felt, cotton, plastic?

Now, jumble up all the contents together. Can the children sort them in separate special treasure boxes? Let children use a magnifying glass (if you have one) to look closely at some of their treasure.

Parents can choose a selection of treasures to use for the treasure hunt, you could hide them around your house or garden and leave clues for children to follow!

Have fun! I can’t wait to see what treasure you have found in your chest! J

Thursday 4th June - Maths

Date: 4th Jun 2020 @ 9:16am

Good Morning Reception!

Get ready for Thursday’s fluent-in-five…

Today in our maths learning, we are going to be learning about subtraction by taking part in some practical subtraction games below!

Pirate Treasure – Taking away from 10

This is a game for 2 people. Using ‘treasure’ items (coins, gems, pebbles, shells, etc), ask the children to line them up into a line of ten. Children can take turns to choose whether they take away 1,2 or 3 treasure pieces at a time. The winner is the player who avoids taking the last item!

Next step: When children take away items, can they write this down as a number sentence and work out how many they have left? E.g 10 – 3 = 7, 7 – 1 = 6…

Pass it on!

Each child starts with 6 treasure pieces (you could turn into ‘pirates’ for this one!). Using a 1-3 dice, they roll the dice and pass the corresponding number of treasure pieces to the person on their left. The winner is the first person (or pirate!) to give away all of their treasure. Encourage the children to count how many they have left or explain the number sentence as they pass on their treasure e.g ‘I had 6 pieces of treasure, I am giving away 2, so now I have 4 left’ ‘6 – 2 = 4’

Outside ‘Walk the Plank’

Create a countdown game by chalking numbers 10-0 leading towards the ‘end of a plank!’ Provide a giant 1-3 dice. Ask children to roll the dice and jump down from 10 to 0. The first person to reach the end has to walk the plank! Abandon Ship!

I hope you enjoy taking part in these fun subtraction games! I can’t wait to see pictures of your learning! Email in to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk! I can’t wait to hear from you! J Enjoy!

Thursday 4th June Writing

Date: 4th Jun 2020 @ 8:53am

Good Morning Reception,

Here are the answer’s to yesterday’s ‘Sentence of the Day…’

Can you pass the brown paint?

Today’s sentence of the day is…

i need a shoower because I fell inn the mod.

This week we have started our topic all about Pirates. We have read the story 10 Little Pirates and answered some questions about the book. One thing we have found out about pirates is that they are always looking for treasure!!

Treasure is something that is precious and special for pirates.

What are the things that you treasure or are special to you…?

On a piece of paper or use the sheet attached to the blog write and draw the things that you treasure the most. Here are the things that I treasure the most...

Good Morning Reception,

Let’s start phonics with the tricky words below. Use three of the tricky words and put them in a super sentence.

Today we are going to continue thinking about the sound ‘ow.’ Start by reading along with the video at the bottom of this blog.

Here are today’s practise and apply activities, which one will you choose?

Activity 1 – Play treasure hunt. Write some of the ‘ow’ words from the video and hide them inside or outside in your house. Find 3 words and write them in some super sentences.

Activity 2 – Label the pictures with the ‘ow’ words

Activity 3 – Put the correct ‘ow’ word in the sentence.

Activity 4 – Read the story ‘Mr Brown’ and find the ‘ow’ words and answer the questions about the story. Do the activity at the end of the story.
