RSR: Blog items
Date: 31st Mar 2020 @ 10:49am
Hello everyone!
Today's challenge is something that I often enjoy doing when I'm feeling a little sad or worried about something.
Today I am challenging you to cook or bake something! If you can't do it today then why not plan something to make later in the week or even at the weekend?
Take a look at this website that has plenty of easy and healthy recipes to look or see if you can invent something that includes the contents of your fridge or cupboard https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes
Yesterday I made these cheese scones for me and my husband to have for lunch this week (they're not very healthy but they're very tasty and it's okay to have a little treat once in a while! )
Make sure you ask an adult to help you with any cooking or cutting and don't do anything before you check it's okay!
Have fun,
Mrs Glover
A big thanks to Miss Kenwell who sent me a picture of her sunshine yesterday (pictured below), she put my drawing to shame!
Date: 31st Mar 2020 @ 8:46am
Good Morning Reception!
Today I would like you to focus on number formation! If you have the ‘Easter Maths Booklet,’ you should find this page below in your booklet. Can you form your numbers correctly and colour in the eggs?
If you have the ‘Easter Maths Booklet to 20’ you can use paper.
I have also attached additional links to practise number formation 0-20 below for you to download and print.
Use the ‘show me’ links below to practise your number formation using some fun rhymes to help you remember how to form your numbers correctly!

** MATHS SCAVENGER HUNT CHALLENGE ***
Every day, I am going to include a maths scavenger hunt for children to participate in using household objects.
Can you find 4 socks and 2 stuffed animals? How many items do you have altogether?
Have fun! Don’t forget to send pictures of your work to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk - we love to see your work!! Parents please feel free to contact for any questions/any area or learning you would like to see!! :)
Tuesday 31st Colour hunt - Practical Activity
Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 4:35pm
Good Morning Reception,
This morning I would like you to go on a colour hunt around your house. You are searching for things that are red or things that are your favourite colour. Use the show me video below to help you:
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=VbFp81g
You might want to draw and list the things you have found. I can't wait to see what you find...
Send in your videos or photos to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 3:40pm
Good Morning Reception,
Today for your phonics I would like you to start by listening and joining in with some of our phonic songs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zKr44iBFT0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffeZXPtTGC4
I want you to use the Phase 2 sound mat and play fastest finger. Who can touch the sound that's said the quickest?
Now get out the sound cards that you cut up for Phase 2. Play snap with the sounds. Each sound has two cards. Let's see how many snaps you can get!
Use the cut up sound cards to play the game Make the word. Listen to your grown up saying some words. Can you use the sound cards and make the words? You might want to write the words once you have made them using the sound cards.
Grown ups your words to say are:
bag, sat, pan, lip, sock, dog, bat, miss, hiss, hill, red.
Today you will be looking at rhyming words. Use the videos below to help you remember what rhyming words are:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSPmGPIyykU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVophT8naUM
Next I want you to complete the rhyming word activity in your phonic pack. Use this show me video to help you:
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=n4HniKm
I have also added on this blog a Rhyming PowerPoint quiz. Good Luck!
Any questions or you want to share your learning please email us: receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 11:44am
Today's challenge is to draw your own sunshine then in the middle of it write or draw all the things that make you happy.
I've done one if you would like to look at it for ideas (although your drawings may be a little better than mine! ) and have focused on all the things I can still do or see, even while we're in this strange situation .
Stay safe everyone,
Mrs Glover
Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 9:26am
Good Morning Reception,
This week I want you to start making your creative model linked to one of the stories below:
The Ugly Duckling
The Odd Egg
Chicken Licken
Look at the ideas on the sheet to help you, I have attached it to this blog. Remember it doesn't have to be finished you may just paint the boxes you need to make your model, or you might paint the background of your paper.
Good Luck!
Mrs Iqbal
Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 9:15am
Good Morning Reception!
I hope you all had a relaxing weekend and you are ready for another wonderful week of home learning with your grown ups.
Today I want you to look at the story called 'The Egg.' Miss Williams asked you to look at this story last week and you did some predicting work and listened to the story online. Today I want you to listen to the story again using the link below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEyD_JX5x84
Next play the game 'I can see...' Use the picture of the dragon attached to this blog and tell your grown up all the things you can see. For example, you might say...
I can see a green, big dragon.
I can see a boy flying a huge dragon.
I can see wide wings that make the dragon fly.
Then I want you to think of a sentence about the dragon and write it. I want some fantastic sentences describing the dragon. Use the show me video below to help you think about what we need to remember when writing a sentence. Grown ups if the children are writing the words in their sentence phonetically then that is great. The spellings have to be what sounds the children can hear. Do encourage them to spell the tricky words correctly by looking at the tricky word mats in your phonic packs.
Miss Cogger's phonic group you might want to draw the dragon and label it using some describing words like...
pointy teeth
sharp claws
green skin
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=FF23TuK
I can't wait to see some fantastic writing.
Love Mrs Iqbal
My Super Me Booklet - I am Grateful for...
Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 8:02am
Good Morning Reception!
This past week has been very strange, it has made me think about how much is taken for granted throughout our ‘normal’ daily lives and what I am incredibly grateful for in these difficult times.
In your ‘Super Me’ booklet – there is a page that focuses on all that we are grateful for. (See page below) Can you have a real think about what you are grateful for? Can you write this down and draw a picture? I would love to see some of your ideas! :)
Week 2 Activities - Easter Maths Booklet
Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 7:59am
Good Morning Reception!
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are ready for a week full of learning and fun!
Today I would like you to have a go at some of the activities in your ‘Easter Maths Activity Booklet.’ I know that some of you have different booklets, so if you have ‘Easter Maths Activity Booklet,’ I would like you to complete page 1. If you have ‘Easter Maths Booklet to 20,’ I would like you to complete page 4. (See both pages attached below.)
I have posted a ‘show me’ link to support you in completing these activities:
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=Y2YNpVA
** TRICKY CHALLENGE **
I know how speedy some of you have been throughout the past week and have already completed your maths booklets! If so, I have attached links to a ‘Spring I-spy.’ There is an option to count to 10 or 20, so choose whichever one you feel more comfortable with! You need to carefully count all of the different spring items and write the total number of each item. You can show your working out by writing the total number of each item and labelling/drawing a picture of the item.
** For an EXTRA TRICKY CHALLENGE challenge: **
Can you make a number sentence using the spring items?
How many items would you have if you added one more or taken away one less?
Have fun! Don’t forget to send pictures of your work to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk - we love to see your work!! Parents please feel free to contact for any questions/any area or learning you would like to see! :)
Health and wellbeing challenges from Mrs Glover
Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 2:59pm
Hello, Mrs Glover here!
I hope everyone is staying safe, having fun and working hard on your learning. I'm going to post a Health and Wellbeing Challenge every day for people to do if they choose to. I'll be doing them all too and posting pictures where I can. Please feel free to e-mail any pictures or comments to your home learning e-mail addresses!
Challenge number 1: Go on a mindfulness walk. Write or draw 5 things that you can see, hear, feel, smell or touch (make sure you have an adult with you if necessary and stay far way from people you may see when you're out, although you can still say a friendly hello!) You could even do this in your garden if you have one!
Here's a picture of my mindfulness walk that I went on at lunch time today!
I saw trees and water, I heard birds and rustling, I could smell different plants and I could feel the sun on my face :-)
Friday Superstars in Reception
Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 2:18pm

Jaxson - loving your rainbow, make sure you put it in your window.
Timeea - love the hand stand, amazing strength!!
Ferdows - what a lot of ICT you have found in your house and I love your drawings of your favourite flowers.
Zainab - What an amazing prediction sentence about the front cover to the story 'The Egg.' You have remembered everything Mrs Cooper has told you in Phonics!!
Miss Wiiliams and I are waiting for emails, we love to see what you are all doing.
We miss you loads!!
Date: 26th Mar 2020 @ 2:29pm
Good Morning Reception,
I can't believe it's Friday in our first week of home learning. It has been a strange feeling not being in school or seeing all of you, however, we must do what is safe for us all.
If it's Friday then that only means it Challenge Friday!!! Yay!!!
Grown ups on Fridays in Reception we set children some challenges that they must try to do over the day. We talk about the challenges and show some good examples but it is mostly about promoting the children's independent learning. Watch the videos from all the Reception Team where we are explaining what the challenges are and we have also attached the challenge sheet on this blog. You will also find some photos from Mrs Iqbal's house showing you some examples of ICT in her home. Miss William's went on a walk with her dog Rufus. Why not watch their video to give you some ideas... Mrs Cooper has also sent you a message. Make sure you watch it as she really wants you to try a ICT challenge!! Miss Cogger's message is to encourage that would learning, she will be waiting for some photos/videos of the challenges that you choose.
Two of the challenges are spring themed challenges. For the first one you could collect a flower from the garden if it's safe and use that to draw/paint or make a model. You could draw someone's favourite flower that lives with you. The second spring challenge is asking you to think about the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk.' You may want to make a model from the story, draw a picture of the main characters, you could plant a seed and watch it grow. Use the link below to listen to the story:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VCpAYajmvo
We can't wait to see what you all come up with, don't forget to send in your lovely creations to...

Week 1 Activities: Can you write a prediction linked to 'The Egg' Story?
Date: 25th Mar 2020 @ 8:49am
Good Morning Reception!
Today I thought it would be a nice idea to look at the front cover of a new story book called 'The Egg.' Take a look at the 'Show Me' video below and see if you can predict what animal or creature might be inside the egg! Does it look like one of our chick eggs in school? Or our 'odd' egg? Or the emu eggs we looked at? I wonder what could be inside!
http://www.showme.com/sh?h=FCJKP7Q
Now I'd like you to make a prediction of what might be inside, I have modelled how you can show this by writing a sentence or drawing a picture!
After you have made your prediction, you can watch the story below to find out what really happens in 'The Egg' story! See if your predictions were correct! I can't wait to see what ideas you have come up with! Please send your photos/work in to receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Oh and don't forget to have fun!! :)
The Egg Story Read Aloud : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEyD_JX5x84
Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 5:17pm
Good Morning Reception,
On Monday hopefully you listened to the stories that we used when we were thinking about what comes out of an egg.
Today we want you to pick one story and start talking to your grown up about what you would like to create. Look at the sheet called 'Reception Holiday Homework' for some ideas. You may want to look at some ideas on the Internet using your grown and their phone, IPAD, laptop or computer. You may want to start collecting things around your house to make your creation or save a box or bottle if you are making a model.
As always if you have any questions please email us: receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
Good Luck!
Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 5:06pm
Good Morning Reception,
Hope you are all well and keeping safe...
Today we would like you to continue lookng at the sounds that you cut up from Phase 2 in lots of games. We will also like you to practise reading, writing and locating tricky words from Phase 2.
You may want to start by singing the phase 2 tricky word song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvMyssfAUx0
Start by looking at the Phase 2 tricky word mat.
Can you play fastest finger? Who can touch the tricky word that your grown up says the quickest?
Next get your grown up to find some paper and you copy 4 of the tricky words. Play corners using the four tricky words. Place the four words safely in a room in your house or use the garden if it is safe to do so. Run around the space and when your grown up shouts corners go to a corner. You are out if you are standing in the corner that the grown up chooses. Play this with other people that live in your house.
Now have a go at the tricky word spelling activity in your pack.
Mrs Cooper and Mrs Iqbal's phonic groups can you find the tricky words in a book that you may have at home? Can you put each tricky word in a sentence?
Using your cut up sounds can you play 'Make a word' in your phonic pack. For example, can you make the name of someone in your family like mum, dad, gran. Or you may want to make words of some things you may find around your house such as sink, cat, peg, bed, clock.
Now we would like you to practise writing your sounds on the formation sheet in your pack.
Start by doing some letter exercise with Jack Hartman to get your muscles ready for writing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFa0b_IIRac
If you have made some playdough why not get your finger muscles ready for writing by doing some dough disco:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K-CQrjI0uY
Look at the show me video where I am going to show you how to write the letters up to f:
https://www.showme.com/sh?h=glV7ymO
As always if you have any questions or want to send your work please email us: receptionhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk
