We are having our Christmas Lunch!!! It was delicious!!
Date: 17th Dec 2019 @ 8:52pm
We had a fantastic time today at our Christmas Party. We played pass the parcel, musical statues, musical bumps, corners and we even had a go at following some dance moves online! Who knew in reception we had a group of children with great dance moves that included the floss and hype!!
We ended the afternoon tucking into some party food. Yum, Yum!!!

In our classroom we discovered a 'crime scene.' In this crime scene we saw some objects that helped us to find out what our next story was going to be about. We saw some recipe books, apron, chef's hat and flour. Our next story was all called 'The Gingerbread Man.'

In RAI we raised money for Children in Need and took part in lots of fun activities. We started the day by joining Joe Wicks in the live workout called 'Big Morning Move.' We ran around our brand new 'Daily Mile' track in the playground. In class we did lots of Pudsey activities which included Pudsey bear finger painting, drawing Pudsey Bear and using split pins to make a Pudsey Bear puppet. What a Fun Day!!!
Thank you so much for your contributions to this worthy charity.

For the last two weeks we have started to think about light and dark through the story 'The Foggy Foggy Forest' by Nick Sharratt. In this story we meet lots of well-known characters in a dark and foggy forest. We have used the story to recognise rhyming words and describe our favourite characters.
Why not visit the website below to listen to the story online...?

In Reception we have begun Phase 2 of the Letters and Sounds Phonics programme. In this phase we are learning how to correctly pronounce and write the following sounds:
- Set 1: s, a, t, p.
- Set 2: i, n, m, d.
- Set 3: g, o, c, k.
- Set 4: ck, e, u, r.
- Set 5: h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss.
Alongside teaching the above sounds we have started to teach children the skills of segmenting and blending. Segmenting is when children are able to identify each sound in the word, they then blend the sounds together to read the word.
For example, s/a/t as children say the sounds faster they should hear that the word says 'sat.' For further information take a look at the following website which has further information, resources and games that you can use at home.

Reading is an important partnership between home and school and one that we value at Ravensbury Primary. Please can you make sure that you spend at least 10 minutes each night with your child sharing their reading book. As the children are becoming more confident in their Phonics and learning the sounds they will soon begin to use the skills of segmenting and blending to support reading words.
At this early stage talking about the pictures and asking questions linked to the characters, places and experiences in the book is all vital skills in supporting children with their early reading skills.
When you share the reading book at home please comment or tick that it has been shared in the reading record, and make sure it is in school every day. Reading books will be changed every Friday.

We watched a video about minibeasts and we sang about the minibeasts. We learned about minibeasts by listening to the words.click here to listen to the song
Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 5:03pm
We would just like to say a huge big thank you to all the parents that came in to school this morning to help us create a minibeast. We understand that it's not always possible for you to come if you have to go to work or you have an appointment, but we love it when you can share in our learning.
Here are lots and lots of photos so you can look at and enjoy the experience we had...
Writing about what I like to play with
Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:57pm
"Look I made a model and did the writing for it!"
Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:54pm
"Miss, look these three sounds altogether make the word 'sat' - s a t."
Singing our Phase 2 phonics song can sometimes produce lightbulb moments in our learning.

It's so much fun reading and exploring and observing in our indoor Minibeast Garden.
Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:47pm
If you would like to learn more about minibeasts, come in to class to read the information in our science lab, or look at the minibeasts climbing the grass, crawling on the ground and flying about in our Minibeast Garden.
Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:41pm
Here are the resources you might want to use to create a minibeast.
Which minibeast will you make? What shape will it be? What colour is it?
This was the challenge that faced our parents and children, this morning in class. Look on our blog to see what we made.
Creating and Making Morning Job
Date: 30th Apr 2019 @ 8:49pm
Only 2 days to go until our Marvellous Minibeast Morning Job. We'd love it if you could come in to help us create minibeasts!
Super Scientists Observation Forms
Date: 30th Apr 2019 @ 8:23pm
Today we became real scientists by filling in mini-beast observation forms. We used observation skills by looking carefully at photos of minibeasts, by counting how many legs and wings and then writing about the colour of the minibeasts.
Then, at the end of the day, we shared our knowledge with each other by reading out the questions on the form and the answers we had written. As you can see we are very proud of our work!
Date: 25th Apr 2019 @ 10:43am
Can you guess what we are making today?
We decided to create a learning area in our classroom because it wasn't how we wanted it to look. We are really interested in minibeasts so we are going to create an area that we can learn about them in. The first step is to create the kind of habitat we think they need to live in.
What do you think the box will become?
Date: 24th Apr 2019 @ 1:11pm
This afternoonn we played a game of Who? Where? How?
First you play a sound and then you close your eyes and imagine who is making the sound, where they are and how they are making the sound.
Can you guess our sound?
Weighing and Measuring in the classroom
Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 8:51pm
Today our classroom challenges were to use our measuring skills.
We used the balance scales to find out about lighter and heavier objects, we compared the length of the 'green water snake' with our models and we created towers that were shorter or taller than Ruby Rabbit.
Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 8:43pm
Today Lainy brought some fun games in to class to play with. We've been creating maths games using her ladybird resources.
Date: 2nd Apr 2019 @ 9:22am

We have been learning all about our amazing Mums this week. Mother's Day is a chance for us to show them how special they are.
First we read a book called 'Superhero Mum' by Tim Knapman and that made us think about all the brilliant things our Mums do for us every day. Then we wrote about why our own Mum is a Superhero with Mrs Ganner. Finally we made a garden of flowers picture independently.
This got us thinking... How can we make a bunch of flowers for our Mum? Superhero Miss Conway came to the rescue by showing us how to use our scissor skills and fine motor folding skills to create a very real looking, opening heart flower, growing in grass. We are so creative in our class that some of us made more flowers independently too! There was even a ladybird sitting in one bunch!
We hope all of you amazing Mums out there have a restful day on Sunday. You really deserve it.
Date: 27th Mar 2019 @ 12:27pm
We are getting really good at singing the phase 3 phonics song we use to practice linking phase 3 sounds to letters. Soon we will be singing it independently, without repeating after an adult.
Home Challenge: Can you practice the sounds with a grown up or older brother or sister? When you know the sounds, can you teach it to an adult?
Double double numbers are so sweet...
Date: 26th Mar 2019 @ 10:50pm
