Thursday 23rd April

Date: 23rd Apr 2020 @ 8:31am

Hello Year 5! Well, what a relief, Asaph didn't wake us up until 7am (though perhaps that still sounds early to Miss Brookes and Miss Wendt after yesterday's luxury wake up time?!), so I feel much more bright and alert for today! How are you? Remember we'd love to hear from you and how you're getting on - get in touch with us using our Year 5 email: y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Have a lovely day!

Good morning from Mrs Hodges!

How did you get on with the writing activity yesterday? Did you find out the meaning of any new vocabulary? I'd love to see your sentences!

Today I'm giving you a Sentence of the Day, one of the errors practises some of the GVP learning Miss Brookes set you a couple of days ago, can you remember it I wonder? Click the link below to see it!

Right, let's check out today's corrected sentence! Click on the link below to see if your sentence is now correct too!

Hola from Miss Wendt!

I thought today we would start with some maths. I enjoyed setting the problem yesterday so I have found a different type of problem, which still practices the 4 operations. Have a look at this one, I'll also do some working out and put the answer on later!

Here is my working out. Adding and subtracting £27 made no difference to the total, so it was a simple calculation of 3 x 114.

Did anyone have the same conclusion? Did anyone have more calculations than mine?

Today I've also been thinking about our Spanish learning. It's very important that we keep up practicing our language skills, even if it's just for a few minutes each day. I want to start with a recap about the days of the week. I've attached a word bank with the days in English and Spanish - and also a guide of how to say these words.

If you want to put the days of the week into a sentence, practice saying ...

Hoy es Jueves

...which means Today is Thursday!

You can also try this with the other 6 days!

Good morning Year 5 from Miss Brookes!

I had a llttle listen to Mrs Hodges sentence of the day, and she's right (not that I ever doubted her!), it is linked with some of the GVP learning we looked at earlier on this week (I'm not going to tell you which one though, that would be cheating!) Well done to the children who have been emailing in their work this week - I can't wait to include you in our Friday learners of the week!  Today's GVP video, features me getting attacked by a spider right at the very end - and I know 5CB understand my fear of spiders, so I did very well not to drop the IPad!

Today's GVP is all about commas, and the four different ways we can use them. I know that sometimes we can forget about adding a comma, so hopefully this will give you some key reminders. Can you name all 4 uses before you watch the video?

I've also atttached today's worksheet. Tomorrow will be a recap about the four different GVP skills we have focussed on this week. I can't wait to see your answers!
