Sentence of The Day

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 10:21am

Good morning year 6, the sentence of day today is linked to information texts. I have based mine on one of the effects of climate change-flooding. The first sentence is one for you to correct; the second sentence has been changed to improve the effect. See what you think!

Although flooding cannot be prevented from happening, we can take precautions to limit the impact it can have on our lives and our property.

The sentence begins with a subordinate clause, which does not make sense on its own but adds relevant information to the main clause that follows. However it needs punctuating-that is your first job! There is also a spelling error-see if you can sport which familiar spelling pattern I have mixed up.

In the next sentence I have removed the possessive pronouns as information texts should be impersonal and ideally written in the third person. You can see, highlighted in green, I have changed the main clause to be passive and more general, replaced our with human and changed our to their also.

Although flooding cannot be prevented from happening, precautions can be taken to limit the impact it can have on human lives and their property.

What do you think?

Now have a go at trying to write your own subordinate sentence based on another effect of climate change, drought for example.

‘We create, We explore,

We care, We soar’
