A Visit from the Ancient Maya

Date: 27th Sep 2019 @ 2:57pm

Year 4 have started learning about the Maya civilisation this half term. This week, we were lucky enough to have a visitor who came to tell us all about this period of time.

He taught us how to count to 10 in the Mayan language and he also taught us about the different ways people could be sacrificed to the gods and goddesses including; decapitation, heart extraction, drowning, being buried alive or being shot by arrows!

We also learned how babies would be trained to be cross eyed by sticking a cacao bean on their noses to make them beautiful!

We especially enjoyed the drama activities, where we dressed up and performed the creation story.

‘We create, We explore,

We care, We soar’
