A Roman Soldier Visits Y3

Last week a Roman Soldier came to school to visit Y3. He taught us lots of exciting facts about Roman life! Here’s what the children had to say..

I learnt lots of things when the Roman Soldier came in, I learnt that the Romans were good at fighting and stealing people’s ideas. I liked the bit when after lunch we fought the Romans and took turns. I also learnt that they had a tortoise shell that they used to protect themselves. The Roman soldier wore some chain mail so they can protect themselves from getting hit by a sword.

I learnt that some Roman coins would let you buy a slave! Roman coins would be worth a hundred million pounds. We had a battle with the Celts. The Celts won in the end – that was very unfortunate!

When the Roman Soldier told us we were going to pretend to fight, I just couldn’t hold my horses! After lunchtime we went to the hall, I was so excited! I enjoyed it when I was brave, clever and fierce like the Romans. The tortoise shell was a clever invention; no one could hurt them, that’s why they were the best army in the world.
