World Book Day!

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 5:16pm

Year 5 have had a fabulous World Book Day!

We chose to focus on a traditional tale villian this year, and we decided on the Big Bad Wolf.

Our resident pig (Mrs Turner) and Wolf (Miss Brookes) spent most of the day arguing about who the real villian of the story was!

We focused on the Three Little Pigs, and Miss Brookes did her best to persuade us that the only reason she visited the pig's houses was to borrow some sugar (for her grandma's birthday cake!)

We began the day by reading about the wolf, and then the three little pigs. We theorised about the different ways to destroy a house, and created little houses with key information inside (soon to be seen on one of our displays!)

We then read the 'real' version of the story, where the wolf is innocent! (100% the truth according to Miss Brookes). We discussed all of the different reasons why the wolf may have visited the pig's houses.

After an assembly, where we got to watch some acting, catwalk with our amazing costumes, and read with our reading buddies, the class had a visitor. Another Big Bad Wolf appeared (who looked strangely like Miss Thornton), she shared the story of Little Red Riding Hood, and the lies that she had spread! Can you believe that the wolf was friends with Grandma? That he helped her fix broken things? That Little Red had lied the entire time? The children were astonished to learn the truth!

We ended the day by acting out some of our favourite scenes from today's stories. Can you work out which book our freeze frames are from?
