Making Garden Stew!

Date: 11th Oct 2020 @ 12:57pm

The children have been working very hard and trying their very best to get used to working as a Year 2 child. The children learn English in a different way to year 1 and now have whole class guided reading sessions, no nonsense spelling lessons ,SPAG and writing lessons which are taught within an English block of teaching. This is to create a blended approach to learning, allowing  all the English skills to flow. The children have coped with the change really well and are now seeing the connections between their learning, which they like.

We have enjoyed learning about instructional texts and have enjoyed reading and writing instructions to make a Garden Stew like Whiffy Wilson. The children carefully read the you will need box to collect all the ingredients from the school garden

The children then followed the instructions to make the stew.

The children enjoyed using bossy verbs and adjectives to instruct each other on how to make the stew. They  really enjoyed working practically which had an excellent impact on the writing they produced!  Some of the children enjoyed it so much they made their own stews at home.
