AUTUMN TERM 2 - Investingating Arrays!

In maths this term, 4JB began their unit on multiplication and division by investigating arrays! The children worked together to investigate how number sentences can be represented.

4JB had a great time exploring different foods that the Mayans would have eaten... the children decided that some were much tastier (or spicier) than others!

This half term has been completely jam-packed!
In Maths, the children have been doing lots of work on decimals and measurement, particularly in area and perimeter.
In English, we have been reading The Water Horse, which the children have loved and we have written our own stories around the theme of a mysterious creature! We have also been planning information leaflets on water and its importance!
In CC, we have been looking at the water cycle and how we can save water. We had a visitor from Water Aid come into the school and have decided to have a Bake Sale on the 2nd April at 3.30pm.

On Monday we had a great time at Ordsall Hall. It was great to see all the children participating in the activities and learning so much about the Tudors. It really bought the topic to life. We were able to dress up, make scented bags and experience life as a Tudor servant in the kitchen.
Thank you to our lovely parent helpers who helped made the trip a great success.

Today 4ST celebrated Christmas in style at our Christmas class party! We dressed up, played games, ate party food and won some cool prizes. Everyone was well and truly in the Christmas sprit and really enjoyed themselves.
Thank you to all the parents for the generous food donations. It was all yummy!

Today in reading the children were asked to perform in groups one of the earthquake poems they have been reading this week. As part of their poetry unit we have learnt about the structure and presentation of poems, the reasons why poetry is written and the different literary devices that poets use. The performances were all excellent, some children were even able to learn their poems off by heart in a very short time.

Today was our delicious Christmas dinner. The children all enjoyed the tasty food and even those who chose to have a packed lunch still enjoyed their cracker. What a fantastic start to our Christmas celebrations!

This morning the children had a visit from a very special visitor. Father Christmas came on his bus to wish the children a Merry Christmas and give them all a present. It was a great time and we all loved it.

This week in Year 4, we have been looking at decimals. Children used place value lines and dice to create random decimal numbers. They then practised saying the numbers out loud, not forgetting to say "point" for the decimal point.

Every Wednesday morning year 4 go swimming to East Manchester Lesiure Centre. At first some of the children were scared to get into the water but now everybody is doing really well with their swimming through perseverance!
Some children have already received their 5metres and 10metres certificates.
Keep it up year 4!!!
Year 4 are computer programmers!!

This half term in year 4 we are learning to be computer programmers. We are using a program called turtle art to explore sequencing a set of instructions.

This week we practised dragging programming blocks to draw a variety of shapes. We then used the repeat button to make the instructions simpler.
We are looking forward to extending our knowledge next week.

Today was polling day at Ravensbury.
The children had the opportunity to vote in our school elections for school council. During the week children who wanted to, gave speeches explaining why they would make good school council representatives.
After the votes were counted Phoebe was elected and will represent 4ST for the year on our school council.
