PE and Sports Provision
We whole heartedly believe in the development of the ‘whole ‘child. Academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
Physical Education and development is a key aspect of our ethos at school. We provide a broad range of curricular and extra-curricular activities for pupils to enjoy; either as individuals, pairs or in groups. Pupils are encouraged to appreciate the importance of a healthy lifestyle and to understand how this affects their health and fitness.
Our PE curriculum is includes Gym, Games lessons and Dance. In year 4, all pupils have a swimming lesson each week. At Ravensbury, we strongly believe that in order to deliver a high standard of PE, it is fundamental that we build staff expertise and confidence. Children are given further opportunities, through our range of After School Clubs, to advance their skills in a range of sports and physical activities.
We enhance our PE provision through quality activities at lunchtimes. We have our own Coach who oversees the range and rotation of sports activities available at lunchtimes. The Coach and our specialist trained Curriculum Support Assistants ensure that activities allow the children to practice skills learnt in lessons, both at individual and small match levels.
Competition is an important part of P.E. at Ravensbury and we are keen to engage in competition at ‘Intra-’ (within our school) or ‘Inter-’ (alongside other schools) level; so that children can challenge themselves at their level during every lesson, club or competition they attend. We also believe that competition must be approached with a healthy outlook and therefore we encourage and promote good sportsmanship, fairness and respect across all aspects of our P.E.
