Letter about returning to school in September.

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to give you an update on the reopening of school to all pupils in September. We have missed the children and are really looking forward to seeing them.

The Government has instructed schools to put a number of measures in place in order for them to open safely, these are outlined in the ‘Parents return to school guide’ which has been sent to you and which can be found on the school’s website. The scientific evidence shows that coronavirus (COVID-19) presents a much lower risk to children than adults of becoming seriously ill. There will obviously still be risks while coronavirus (COVID-19) remains in the community but rest assured we are doing everything we can to make school is as safe as it possibly can be. We will be putting a series of protective measures in place so that we can reopen safely. In order to effectively manage the risks, things will be a little bit different when children return to school in September; staggered start and finish times, staggered play times and lunchtimes, and increased handwashing. It will take a little while for us all to get used to these new ways of working.

It is important that children return to school in September for their educational progress, their wellbeing, and for their all-round development. There is an expectation that all children return to school full time, attendance will again be mandatory from the beginning of the new academic year. For parents and carers of compulsory school aged children, this means that they have a legal duty to send their child to school regularly. Parents and carers should not plan to take children on holiday during term time as these will not be authorised.

If any school experiences an outbreak of coronavirus they will contact their local health protection team who will advise on the necessary action to be taken.

Part of the Local Authority's risk assessment process requests that schools should carry out staff training based around the new safety procedures, these are as new to them as they are for you.  This will take place on the two training days, 1st and 2nd September.

As this academic year ended abruptly for most pupils on the 20th March we would like to give the children an opportunity to spend some time with their current teacher and to have some closure on this year. We feel it would help them process what has happened as well as ending the year on a positive note.

Return dates in September:

Tuesday 1st September-Training Day

Wednesday 2nd September Training Day

Thursday 3rd September-Transition in current class

Friday 4th September-Transition in current class

Monday 7th September-All year groups from Reception to Year 6 will start in their new yeargroup.

Nursery pupils new to our school will be informed separately of their start dates and times. Miss Wolfenden, the Assistant Headteacher will be in touch to talk though the transition arrangements

Please note that any of the plans we have put in place are dependent on future guidance and may be subject to change. Although we are not in school over the summer if there are any changes in the guidance which you need to know about we will contact you via text message or email.

On behalf of all the staff at Ravensbury I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and patience in what has been a very challenging time. I would also like to wish you all a lovely Summer holiday and look forward to seeing you all in September.

Take care and stay safe
