9th June 30 Days Wild - Challenge 9

Good morning,

Today sees a challenge that we should do every day. Litter is a big problem for wildlife. It can hurt them and so I’d like to see if you can pick up litter to make your area tidy and safe for the animals that live close to us.

  • DO NOT pick up anything that could hurt you.
  • ALWAYS do this activity with an adult.
  • WEAR protective gloves if you have any.
  • USE a litter picker if you can.

Send me your litter picking photos in to:

nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Have a great day

From Mrs Ganner

Daily Update:

We’ve had some amazing photos in from children in the Foundation Stage. Look at how happy they are looking after the wildlife they have found. They are being really careful too. Read what they say about their learning:

‘We have been out in the parks and garden looking for wild life. We saw some ducks with babies and a spider in the garden. We also have 3 snails which we look after and feed them every day.’

‘This is my friend the worm. I have been watering it and feeding it. Worms don't have any legs because they wiggle.

You really are ‘Wonderful Wildlife Wardens’

8th June 30 Days Wild - Challenge 8 πŸ€πŸ¦πŸ¦‰πŸ¦†

Date: 8th Jun 2020 @ 9:12am

Good morning Ravensbury,

I hope your weekend was wild and wonderful. If you have an photos of you and your family finding wildlife in your garden, on the vale or at the park send your photos in so we can share them on our blog.

It’s the start of our second week going wild at school and we have one of my favourite activities

I love to sit in my garden recording the birds talking to each other first thing in the morning. They have so much to say to each other!

Can you hear the magpie chattering away loudly?

We hope you had a fantastic weekend. What did you get up to? It wasn't a sunny as usual, but the rain didn't seem to last.

Miss Brookes led a family quiz, that was entirely picture based. One of the rounds involved taking 'zoomed in' photos of an object, and everyone had to guess what the object was. I've attached one below to see if you can figure it out:

Email us and let us know what you think this is a picture of (this was the easiest one, I might share a challenging one with you tomorrow!) at: Y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

We can't wait to see what learning you get up to at home!

30 Days Wild - Weekend Challenges πŸžπŸ›πŸπŸ•·

Date: 5th Jun 2020 @ 3:16pm

Well done to Honour and Jola for finding this fabulous centipede! It’s safely back outside now. Well done for ‘Going Wild’!

If any of you want a wild weekend then here are two more challenges:

Challenge 1: How do I know it’s a centipede and not a millipede? CLUE: The answer is NOT to do with the number of legs it has.

Challenge 2: Bugs shouldn’t be living in your house so why not make them a hotel in your garden? Stack wood and tubes and crates to make a bug hotel this weekend. Then watch them set up home in all the nooks and crannies. Bugtastic!

Send your answers to my home learning address:

nurseryhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Have a brilliant weekend! Keep those eyes peeled for lots of bugs

Date: 5th Jun 2020 @ 8:02am

Good Morning Ravensbury,

It’s the end of our first wild week. I’ve spoken to a few of your grownups about what they have seen and done this week. Did anybody find a minibeast in their house yesterday? Send in photos of your minibeast encounters so we can put them on the blog. Here’s today’s challenge:

Whatever WILD THINGS you see today write down a list and send a photo of what is in your local park or back yard or garden. Let’s work out what kinds of wildlife are living in and around Clayton.

Send your photos or short videos in and I'll put them up on our school blog

Thursday 4th June

Date: 4th Jun 2020 @ 8:59am

Good morning everyone!

It's already raining again! Maybe this will be the wettest June on record, like how May was the warmest May? I guess only time will tell!

You can find all of today's learning on:

https://padlet.com/y5homelearning/year5

We can't wait to see what learning you get up to at home, so please don't hesitate to email us on y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Enjoy your Thursday!

Miss Brookes and Mrs Hodges

--

I've noticed that some of you have been struggling when it comes to multiplying or dividing by 10/100/1000. I've attached a place value chart to help you. Remember, if you're multiplying you're going to jump to the left, and if you're dividing, you're going to jump to the right. If you can't remember how many jumps to do, look at the 0s in what you're multiplying/dividing by. For example, if you're multiplying by 10, 10 has 1 zero so you do 1 jump. If you're dividing by 1000, 1000 has 3 zeros so you do 3 jumps.

I hope this helps!

June 4th - #30DaysWild – Whole School Challenge 4 πŸ•·πŸŒΏ

Date: 4th Jun 2020 @ 7:58am

Good Morning Ravensbury,

I hope you managed to get out in the WILD yesterday! Send in your splashing photos so we can share the fun. Here’s today’s challenge:

When it gets cold and wet outside, sometimes the wild likes to come inside! If you find a minibeast friend, help them find their way home by carefully scooping them up and putting them outside.

Send your photos or short videos in and I'll put them up on our school blog

Wednesday 3rd June

Date: 3rd Jun 2020 @ 8:51am

Good morning Year 5!

Some rain this morning, finally! Did you know that May been the sunniest month on record with 266 hours of sunshine?! The previous record was in June 1957, with 265 hours of sun. I have enjoyed it, but am pleased for some cooler weather and rain now!

Anyway, back to our learning - Miss Brookes and I wanted to try a different way of giving you your learning each day, so you can now find everything on this Padlet link here:

https://padlet.com/y5homelearning/year5

(Make sure you scroll down each column and across the page to see all of the activities on there! Click on the picture to open the pdf/document/picture)

We hope it makes it a bit easier for you to find all your learning, as it will all be in that one place. You'll see a section for daily activities (which we'll change every day), a section for weekly tasks, your Reading Challenge, your Connected Curriculum activities, Wellbeing Challenges as well as a Quick Links section for those other useful websites you use to practise your skills. It's up to you when you do the other tasks besides the smaller daily activities - we'd recommend you do one or two of them each day.

We'll still put a blog post on here every day reminding you of the Padlet link, and continue to look out for our Friday Celebration post!

Let us know what you think about this different way of seeing your learning - we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find what you're doing each day!

Have a fantastic day Year 5!

I think today is the last day of this incredibly warm weather we've been having - I never thought I'd say this, but I'm quite looking forward to some rain as the garden really needs it! So I hope whatever you get up to today, you manage to get some fresh air in the sunshine!

In case you missed it yesterday, remember that in addition to each daily blog post, you have a weekly Reading Challenge and a selection of Connected Curriculum activities. You can find them in the blog posts from yesterday with those names as the title.

Remember to email across your learning today so we can see what you've been doing!

Good Morning Year 5 from Miss Brookes!

I hope you all had a fabulous start to your week, and thank you to everyone who has sent in their learning so far. There's quite a bit from me today - maths, GVP and science!

Maths

Here is today's fluent in 5:

Here are the answers, how did you do?

GVP

Here is today's GVP:

Here are the answers:

Science

As we have finished our Space unit, this half-terms science would usually go back to the autumn term, and continue with states of matter. As that is mostly experiments, we have changed things around slightly so that you can do an experiment at home with your grown ups and siblings instead (they may not be states of matter related!) Make sure you send your results in and take photos if you can.

Today's challenge is "does larger feet mean you can jump further?' I've attached a PDF to help you. You need to decide what each of the variables are (what you're going to change and what you will keep the same), there is a method page for you as well as a table of results.

Wellbeing challenge 1.6.20

Date: 1st Jun 2020 @ 10:57am

Hello and welcome back to the start of our final half term of this school year!

As you know, Mrs Glover has been setting us wellbeing challenges to keep us feeling positive and productive over the last few months. It has been fantastic to look back at all the photos you have sent her showing your creative work!

For the next few weeks, Mrs Glover is lucky enough to be going into school each day to teach as we  start opening up the school to certain year groups, so I'll be setting your wellbeing challenge.

So, here's your challenge for this week:

Can you set yourself an exercise goal for the week and try and do a different  exercise each day? It could be going for a walk with your family, making up a dance , going on a bike ride, jumping on your trampoline, doing an online workout like Joe Wicks or doing 30 star jumps in your kitchen!

Use the chart below to record your exercise each day ( or just write it on a piece of paper if you do not have a printer) and send it in to:Ealhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk . If you would like to share  a photo during the week ,send it in too and I can post it on the blog for others to be inspired to try your idea !

I can't wait to see who can be an exercise superstar!

Date: 1st Jun 2020 @ 10:09am

Good morning everyone!

So many of you have participated in our Reading Challenges over the past few weeks - so well done!

To wake up our brains this week, I want you to read a book a day (5 books) on Reading Plus. I will give you until Friday afternoon, when I will post the winners.

If you have forgotten your log in details, don't worry - just send me an email and I will let you know what they are.

Connected Curriculum Challenge!

Date: 1st Jun 2020 @ 8:42am

I am so excited for you to get started with these brilliant Connected Curriculum activities, which are all to do with our new topic of Spain, specifically looking at the question:

Why is Spain such a popular tourist destination?

Spain is a beautiful country with a fascinating history and culture. It's geography (for example the climate and landscape) all helps it be an incredibly popular destination too.

There are eight different activites for you to choose from in the attached document - ranging from cooking to dancing, art to geography...and more! A couple of the activities need additional resources, and I have attached those to this blog too. Other activities have a YouTube link that will help you, so make sure to check that out too.

Choose whichever activities you like, and however many you like - some might take several hours, others will be much quicker.

Remember to show us your learning by emailing us at Y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Have fun!!

Monday 1st June

Date: 1st Jun 2020 @ 8:31am

Welcome back Year 5!

Well, goodness me, I can't believe we're entering our next half term of virtual school! We hope you had a lovely half term and enjoyed the fabulous weather (it almost felt as if we could have been abroad didn't it?!). If you've got any half term photos to show what you've got up to, we'd love to see!

Just to let you know, Miss Wendt will be helping Year 2 with their virtual school learning for the next little bit, so Miss Brookes and I will be posting all your Year 5 learning. So 5HW - don't worry that Miss Wendt isn't setting you activities in each daily blog post; she is absolutely fine and will keep a little eye on what you're doing! Miss Brookes will be giving you your daily Maths, and Miss Wendt has already organised more weekly Spanish activities, so the types of activities you get each day will be the same as the last half term!

Look out for the two other separate blog posts from Miss Brookes and I this morning - one with your weekly Reading challenge, and the other with your new Connected Curriculum activity choices! Our new topic is focused on Spain, with the big question, "Why is Spain such a popular holiday destination?". I hope you love the activities I've put on, I had a lot of fun putting it together and would quite like to try a few myself!

Finally, remember to email us across your learning, we LOVE hearing from you (and of course, if you've any questions or things we can help with, use the email to ask us!): Y5homelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Mrs Hodges here!

Right, quite a lot from me this morning to start this new half term!

For our new Connected Curriculum topic, we're going to be finding out a bit about Bullfighting. It used to be extremely popular in Spain, and still is in some parts. However, many people (both in Spain and around the world) think it is cruel and needs to be banned completely. I'd like you to research Bullfighting over the next couple of weeks, finding out some of the arguments for Bullfighting (which means people think it should be able to continue) and against Bullfighting (which means people think it should be stopped). Check out these links to help your research - I'll put them in each blog post over the next few days, I'm not expected you to look at these all in one go!

Good Morning from Miss Brookes!

I hope you all had a lovely week off and managed to enjoy some sunshine. I know we have now finished our Space unit, but did any of you watch the launch over the weekend? Elon Musk designed a rocket, and then two astronauts used it to travel to the International Space Station. If you didn't manage to watch it, here is a video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxBj8R7XKe4

I am going to be posting the maths and GVP questions this half-term! I'm looking forward to seeing what you can remember.

Maths

From next week, each week will focus on a topic (e.g. time or fractions etc.) However, this week - as our brains have had a week off - we're going to focus alternatively on the number of the day, and a fluent in 5.

Today's challenge is a number of the day. I don't expect you to answer all 10 questions (you can focus on 5, but if you want to do more it's up to you!) and I will post the answers at 1pm. Remember: when multiplying/dividing by 10/100/1000, use a place value chart - not the bus stop method.

I'm sorry the answers are a little bit late today! I forgot to set an alarm to remind me. I was just sat in the garden and I suddenly remembered and jumped up with an "oh no!" to my Mum.

Here are they are - how did you get on?

Hello and happy half term!

I'm not going to be posting a daily challenge for you over half term but here is something you can do  if you like. So I've attached a time capsule template for you use so that you can record some of these things, either by writing or drawing it's up to you.

You can either print it out, do it on a computer or just draw our each page for yourself. Do as much or as little as you chooe and feel free to share anything you do on EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchester.sch.uk

Good morning and happy Friday!

Can you believe we’re coming to the end of another half term? It’s the half term holiday for everyone next week! I’m going to post a challenge for the half term week at the weekend and then I should be back with more challenges from the 1st of June.

Today I’m giving you a fun challenge that has been sent to me by Mrs Ganner which I think is a good way to end Mental Health Week.

We’ve talked a lot in school about resilience and the Power of Yet but I bet you didn’t know that there is actually a Power of Yet dance! So today's challenge is to have a go at the Power of Yet dance. Here are 3 links depending on what your age is, have a go and you can send either photos or videos in of you having a go to EALhomelearning@ravensbury.manchster.sch.uk. There are also some writing tasks that you can download and do on each page if you choose to do so.

9 to 11 https://imoves.com/home-learning/1537
